Chapter 7 Getting Married
Isabella bit her lip, hesitating for what felt like forever before finally asking, "Alexander, am I causing you trouble?"
Alexander looked at her, feeling this overwhelming need to protect her. He walked over and gently patted her head. "Don't be silly." His eyes stayed on her as he added, "I don't depend on my family for anything. Everything I have, I built myself. And as for the Brown family inheritance? Elara can't touch it."
Isabella blinked, starting to get what he was saying.
He was basically telling her that no one, not even Elara, his so-called fiancée, could control him.
"But what if she..." Isabella hesitated again, biting her lip. "What if she comes back and tries to make trouble?"
"Don't worry, she won't." Alexander's voice was firm, leaving no room for doubt. "Oh, and by the way, get ready. We're getting married later."
"Married?" Isabella's eyes went wide.
Alexander couldn't help but ruffle her soft hair at her cute reaction. "What, you don't want to marry me?"
"No, it's not that!" Isabella's hands flew up in a flustered gesture. His words had thrown her completely off balance.
Seeing Isabella all flustered, Aurora, who was standing nearby, walked over with a smile and gently patted her hand. "Don't worry, dear. Getting married is a wonderful thing. Once you're Mrs. Brown, you'll be the lady of the house, and no one will ever push you around again."
Isabella finally snapped back to reality. Yeah, once she was married, she wouldn't just be a guest; she'd be the mistress, and no one could push her around.
Thinking of this, Isabella's hesitant mind suddenly became resolute. "Okay, I'll go pack right away." She looked up at Alexander, her eyes full of anticipation.
In the car, Isabella kept her head down, nervously twisting the hem of her clothes. She watched the scenery fly by outside the window, her heart racing.
She sneaked a glance at Alexander beside her. His features were sharp and defined, giving off this cool, untouchable vibe.
But this same Alexander had, just the night before, rescued her from the cold rain without a second thought and was now proposing marriage.
"Alexander." Isabella gathered her courage to speak softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
"What?" Alexander turned his head slightly, his deep gaze landing on her.
"Aren't we rushing things?" Isabella bit her lip, her cheeks turning a soft shade of pink. "We don't even know each other's hobbies, and yet we're..."
"Getting married just like that?" Alexander finished her sentence with a faint smile.
Isabella paused for a moment and quickly waved her hands, trying to explain, "No, that's not what I meant."
"I know." Alexander cut her off gently. "I'm not marrying you on a whim, Isabella."
Isabella looked at him, surprised. Was he serious?
Alexander continued, "That night, after bringing you home, I had someone look into your background."
Isabella's eyes went wide, her heart racing. He had investigated her?
"Why did you look into me?" Isabella asked nervously, her voice shaking a bit.
Seeing her all nervous and uneasy, Alexander's heart softened. He reached out and gently held her hand, the warmth of his touch making her heart skip a beat.
"Because," Alexander paused, his eyes locked on hers, "from the moment I saw you that night, I knew I wanted to marry you."
Isabella's heart skipped a beat. His words hit her like a thunderclap, leaving her mind blank.
"I'm serious about marrying you," Alexander said with a gentle smile. "Now you know."
Isabella stared at him, dazed. After a moment, she snapped back to reality, her cheeks turning bright red.
She lowered her head and softly replied, "I'm serious too."
The car fell silent, with only the sound of their shallow breaths filling the space.
Isabella sneaked a glance at Alexander's face, feeling a sweet and indescribable sense of security welling up inside her.
Leaving the city hall, Alexander held Isabella's hand as they walked towards the car parked by the roadside.
Isabella followed closely, her eyes still glued to their marriage documents.
In the photo, Alexander had his usual stern expression, while she was smiling so broadly that her eyes were curved, looking kind of silly.
"What are you thinking about?" Alexander's deep voice broke the silence.
"Nothing." Isabella quickly hid the marriage documents behind her, her cheeks instantly turning red.
Seeing her flustered state, Alexander couldn't help but smile.
He opened the car door, gesturing for Isabella to get in, then took out an exquisite box from his suit pocket. "For you."
Isabella took the box, confused, and when she saw what was inside, she was shocked.
Inside the box was a diamond ring, a large pink diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds, sparkling brilliantly in the sunlight.
"This is too valuable. I can't accept it." Isabella hurriedly closed the box, trying to give it back to Alexander.
"For you? It's not nearly enough." Alexander pressed her hand, his deep eyes fixed on her. "Put it on."
"But..." Isabella bit her lip, nervously twisting her fingers. "I..."
"What, are you going to make me find a different Mrs. Brown?" Alexander raised an eyebrow, his tone carrying a hint of danger.
"No." Isabella panicked at his words, instinctively grabbing the ring and slipping it onto her ring finger.
He was too intimidating! Why did he have to be so bossy?
As she struggled to put the ring on, Isabella couldn't help but complain in her mind.
Seeing her childish actions, a hint of a smile flashed in his eyes. He took her hand and, with a gentle push of his slender fingers, the ring slid perfectly onto her ring finger.
"Good girl." Alexander lowered his head and planted a kiss on Isabella's forehead.
Isabella froze, completely still.
It wasn't until they got into the car that she came back to her senses. She touched her burning cheeks and muttered softly, "Alexander, you're cheating."
