Ch 3: Espers

In the world of Xyron, Espers are divided into nine levels called stars. The weakest is One Star Esper and the strongest is the Nine Star Esper. Over many years, Xyron has given birth to many Espers, but no one has ever reached the Ninth Star level.

The most powerful Espers that Xyron of the past, and the current Broken Star Alliance have ever known are the Eighth Star Espers. They are very strong and can use powerful abilities in battle. Many people look up to them and hope to become strong like them one day.

Emrys is the weakest of them all, a person who has just awakened his Esper Ability a few months ago. He was not even a First Star Esper.

Even though Emrys was a First Star Esper yet, he dreams of becoming the strongest, stepping into the levels of Ninth Star Espers.

Emrys returned home, holding the dagger tightly. He looked around at the empty house that once felt warm with his parents' laughter. Now, it was just silent and lonely.

He took a deep breath and thought about the coming days. Two days until he received his first order. He doesn't know which department of the army he will be enlisted in, he still needs to prepare. For now, Emrys decided to train himself. He wanted to find a way to make his "Echo Sense" useful.

That evening, Emrys went to a nearby training ground. It was a big open area where other Espers practiced their abilities. He watched as they fired beams of fire, created shields, and moved with incredible speed. Their powers amazed him but also made him feel small, weak, and useless. Of course, this kind of feeling was there only for a subtle moment before vanishing.

"Maybe I can't fight like them, but I can help in other ways," he muttered to himself.

Emrys closed his eyes and focused on his "Echo Sense." He concentrated on feeling the vibrations in the ground and air. At first, it was hard, but soon he began to feel the movements around him. He could sense the footsteps of others training nearby. He could sense the vibration produced by their abilities and the effect it had on the air and the land.

Then, he had an idea.

"What if I can warn my team before danger comes?" he thought. Although there are several devices to detect the arrival of enemies, the use of those devices during battle is almost negligible. If he could sense enemies before they attacked, he could help keep everyone safe.

Then again, he has to first enter the Combat Division and move to the frontline in order to form a team to battle enemies from the myriad races.

Shaking his head, Emrys continued to practice. From time to time, he walked around the training ground, feeling the vibrations of everything around him.

"I am too weak right now. I have to become a First Star Esper as soon as possible," Emrys thought deeply in his heart.

How does an Esper become stronger?

They can train their abilities and continuously use them to enhance their levels. This method works like a game where the more enemies you kill, the more experience points you gain, and then you use those experience points to level up.

Additionally, Espers can absorb energy from various sources, such as powerful items and special resources, which help them to break through their limits and achieve higher levels of cultivation. Espers normally use these resources to cultivate, for it is much faster and simpler.

Emrys’s parents were powerful warriors who fought bravely at the frontlines of the battlefield. Because of 'their strength and achievements, they earned a lot of money. This money was given to Emrys when his parents passed away.

With the money his parents left him, Emrys can buy powerful items and special resources to help him cultivate and grow stronger quickly. This is very helpful because it can save a lot of time and effort. If he buys the right resources, he can reach a higher level faster and catch up with the stronger Espers.

However, before a person becomes a One Star Esper, they shouldn’t use any resources to cultivate. It is all about building a strong foundation.

After years of research and tests, powerful Espers of the past discovered that using resources before reaching the First Star harms the body. It makes their foundation weak and unstable which limits an Esper's future achievements. Therefore, it is better to rely on hard work and natural training until one becomes a One Star Esper.

This means that no matter how much money or resources Emrys has, he can't use them to get stronger until he reaches the First Star level. He must train and improve his "Echo Sense" ability by himself. Only when he becomes a One Star Esper can he start using special resources to cultivate?

Of course, with every level up, the resources needed for cultivation also increase by at least ten or even a hundred times. Emrys's money can only bring him infinitely close to Three Star Esper. But these are the things of the future to discuss.

For the next two days, Emrys trained hard every morning and evening. He woke up early before the sun rose. He ate a quick breakfast and then went to the training ground to train his ability.

At the training ground, he found a quiet spot. He closed his eyes and focused on his "Echo Sense." He wanted to feel everything around him. He listened to the sounds of the wind and felt the ground beneath his feet. Emrys practiced feeling the vibrations made by other Espers. He tried to detect when they moved and used their powers.

He spent hours everyday training. At first, it was difficult. He often lost focus and could not feel the vibrations well. But he didn't give up. He kept trying, believing that he could make his ability useful.

As the time passed, Emrys noticed something changing. He became better at sensing vibrations. He could feel the footsteps of people even when they were far away. He could sense the energy of their abilities before they used them. It made him excited.

Of course, this improvement didn't come with just the training of two days. This was the result of months of hard training. Although his ability was not well received and was useless in people's eyes, Emrys still trained without giving up.
