Ch 9: Insectoids

"We need to take down that wasp. Otherwise, I doubt we would retreat safely" Jerek commented while looking at the wasp warily. Although he knew this mission was dangerous and they may lose their lives, he never expected one of them to be killed not long after their arrival. This mission is most likely a failure.

"Lira, focus on the wasp. Korin, keep the Ravagers back. I'll help Kira kill the Bonehead Giant Wasp first." Jerek commanded. Then he turned to Emrys and gave him a ball before saying, "Emrys, slowly retreat. Try not to attract the attention of any of these beasts."

"Yes, captain!" Korin and Lira nodded. Emrys also nodded his head and slowly started retreating step by step. He understood the situation and knew his presence would only become a burden to the team. If possible, it'll be better to retreat to the jet first.

Lira wiped the tears from her eyes. As she shifted to look at the wasp, the expression on her face hardened, and killing intent flashed in her eyes.

"I’ll kill that thing," she muttered, and suddenly, destructive energy started gathering in her eyes.

"Shua!"

She then fired a powerful blast of energy from her eyes, hitting the Bonehead Giant Wasp in one of its wings directly.

"Bzzzzzzzzzz!"

The Bonehead Giant Wasp screeched in pain but didn't fall. It hovered higher in the sky. A red light flashed in its eyes as it looked at Lira in hatred. Obviously, it had already recognized Lira as its enemy number one and was preparing to attack her.

Korin, meanwhile, was struggling to hold back the two Ravagers. He kept creating earth walls from time to time to stop the Ravagers, but they kept smashing through his earth barriers. Their claws ripped through the Earth Walls like they were nothing. He also tried to attack by shooting Earth Spear and several Earth Spikes at the Ravagers. Hell, he even created deep craters and only managed to injure the Ravagers.

Among these two Ravagers, one of them was already heavily injured by Rian's rifle. Fortunately, this Ravager was on the verge of death due to Korin's constant strikes. But now, even Korn was getting tired.

However, he knew he couldn't stop, at least not for now.

Emrys who was retreating slowly, suddenly felt the movements of the Bonehead Giant Wasp.

"Lira, be careful. It's coming for you!"

Emrys shouted just in time for Lira to dodge to the side as the wasp swooped down, its stinger narrowly missing her.

Jerek gritted his teeth, watching the battle unfold. They were in serious trouble. Rian was dead, Korin was exhausted, and they still had three powerful monsters to deal with.

"We can't win this fight head-on. We need to retreat.” Jerek muttered inwardly. He planned to bring everyone out safely, but the creatures weren't going to let them go easily.

"Bang!" "Bang!" "Bang!"

Jerek grabbed the electromagnetic rifle and started shooting at the wasp.

"Buzz!"

The wasp buzzed and dodged the bullets in the air, but its wings were again pierced by Lira's deathly rays right at the core. This time, the wasp couldn't continue flying any longer and started falling down.

"Die!"

On the other hand, Koring shouted as he jumped in the air. A giant fist of earth materialized in front of him as it smashed down at the heavily injured Ravager.

"Roar!"

The Ravager's situation was already dire. It was unable to move and dodge Korin's attack. The giant fist of earth landed right on the deepest injury on its abdomen, and just like that, the Ravager let out a last roar before falling to the ground.

Finally, one of the beasts was killed.

However, this was not the time for celebration. Korin started attacking the remaining Ravager.

Just when the situation slightly came under their control, Emrys's face changed. He pointed in front of him and shouted, "Leader, we need to run. I sensed a group of those Bonehead Giant Wasps coming."

"What?" Jerek's face changed greatly. He immediately looked ahead and commanded with a serious expression, "Everyone, fall back immediately. Stay close and move fast. We are giving up this mission. Let's retreat first!"

Ignoring the Bonehead Giant Wasp whose wings were injured from the root and couldn't fly, Jerek started falling back slowly.

However, Lira was not ready to let go of this monster that killed Rian. She hatefully looked at the wasp and shot out several rays of deathly energy. Because the wasp couldn't fly anymore, it was unable to dodge in time. A few deathly rays pierced through its skull, killing it immediately.

It was only then Lira took a deep breath, looked at Rian's corpse not far away, and sighed. Tears dripped from her eyes, but she couldn't do anything now. She also started to retreat. Korin was the last one to retreat, and he retreated only after creating an Earth Prison to imprison the last Ravager.

As for Rian's corpse, they couldn't bring it back. Otherwise, their speed will slow down, and may lose their lives as well. They had no choice but to abandon Rian's body.

This is what a war is!

There is no saying whose corpse could be brought back and whose body would rot or be eaten by beasts on the battlefield.

Everyone started retreating. They were also careful not to turn their backs on the monsters.

Unfortunately, the extreme danger finally arrived which immediately made the situation worse for the Suicide Squad.

A group of more than a hundred Bonehead Giant Wasps came flying at them. Buzzing noises filled the air.

"Damn, these insectoids!"

Jerek cursed while gritting his teeth.

Amongst the myriad races, Insectoids were the first race to invade their world. Countless people have been killed by these insectoids. Although insectoids were more like mindless beasts and couldn't speak, they were actually very intelligent.

Only fools will think that they are mindless. They only appear to have no intelligence. In reality, their intelligence can be compared to that of humans. Some superior insectoids are far more terrifying. They are even capable of taking human forms as well. Of course, signs of them being insectoids still remain on their bodies in the form of scales, Antennae, wings, and more.

In short, Insectoids are one of the most terrifying enemies humans face on the battlefield.
