Chapter 1 Divorce

Night was falling, and Regal City's streets looked almost dreamlike under the neon lights. David Jones and his brother Michael Jones strolled through the busy district, side by side.

Both guys had a certain charm, but they were different in their own ways. Michael, the older one, was drop-dead gorgeous with these slender, mesmerizing eyes that could trap anyone who dared to look.

David, though, had a different vibe. He stood tall, his body was all muscle, and his eyes screamed dominance. There was this faint royal air about him.

"David, what do you think about that thing?" Michael asked, a slight frown on his face.

David thought for a second, but before he could answer, they heard hurried footsteps from around the corner, and the air felt tense.

Michael's gut told him something was off.

"David, let's go!" He grabbed David suddenly, ready to bolt down another street.

But fate had other plans. A gunshot shattered the night, and a bullet zoomed towards David like a flash. Michael moved fast, throwing himself at David, and the bullet hit his chest.

"Michael!" David yelled, his eyes wide with shock.

Blood poured out, soaking Michael's shirt. He struggled to lift his hand, grabbing David's, his voice weak but determined, "David, listen... do something for me..."

"Don't talk, Michael! I'll call an ambulance! You'll be okay!" David's voice shook, his heart breaking.

"It's too late..." Michael's voice was fading, his eyes showing a hint of regret. He spoke so softly that David had to lean in to hear him.

What? Michael actually...

David was lost.

"David, I'm begging you." Michael's hand went limp, his eyes losing their light.

"Michael! I promise I'll go back and divorce her! Don't leave me!" David cried out, filled with despair and anger.

Just then, police sirens wailed in the distance. David held Michael's hand tight, his heart heavy with sorrow.

"Sophia, the four-year term is up. Let's get a divorce!" David's voice came from behind as Sophia Brown was cooking steak.

Hot oil splattered on her cheek, but she didn't feel the pain.

"We've fulfilled our promise to the Brown Family. Now, it's time to end this." David's voice was cold, detached.

Even though she knew this day would come and had prepared herself, Sophia couldn't tell if she felt relieved or heartbroken.

She reminded herself it was just a deal, and it was time to end it.

Four years ago, the Brown Family went bankrupt. Sophia's parents, James and Olivia Brown, couldn't handle the pressure and took their own lives, leaving Sophia to clean up the mess.

Sophia's and David's grandfathers were war buddies. Sophia's grandpa, William Brown, had saved David's grandpa, Robert Jones, on the battlefield, and Robert had always been grateful.

On his deathbed, William was most worried about his granddaughter Sophia, so he entrusted her to Robert.

And that's how this marriage contract came to be.

But Sophia fell for David. Since then, she had toned down her sharpness and played the role of a 'wife' dutifully. She believed that with time, she'd win his heart.

But in the end, all she got was a divorce!

"I'll give you four hundred million dollars plus a high-end place in Amber District as compensation. This is the divorce agreement. If you're okay with it, just sign."
