Chapter 1

Just after her late-night study session, Amelia Wilson got a call from the police station.

They told her that her fiancé, Alexander Anderson, had smashed a bottle over someone's head at a bar because of some woman.

When the police sent over the video, Alexander was still holding the woman tightly, comforting her like she was some precious treasure, completely forgetting about Amelia, his actual girlfriend.

There was still an hour before the curfew, and her roommate, seeing Amelia anxious to leave, kindly reminded her, "Don't come back late again, you've already been warned a bunch of times!"

Yeah, whenever Alexander got into trouble, it was always Amelia who had to clean up his mess, making herself look like a troublemaker to the dorm supervisor.

Her record of late returns had already piled up.

But Alexander didn't know, or maybe he just didn't care.

The police station was super quiet, with only a few officers curiously eyeing the rain-soaked Amelia.

One officer said, "You're his sister, right? You're so young, and your brother really has the nerve to drag you out in the rain."

Amelia paused while signing, only then noticing she was drenched from head to toe.

A gust of cold wind blew by, and she couldn't help but sneeze. But she was still thinking about the word "sister" the officer had just used.

In terms of age, the officer wasn't wrong, but she wasn't his sister.

That year, James Anderson went on a business trip and unexpectedly got caught in a once-in-a-century mudslide.

It was Ethan Wilson who risked his life to save him, and James was grateful and naturally expressed his endless thanks.

After being rejected for the fifth time when trying to give money to the Wilson Family, James proposed a marriage alliance between the two families.

This time, Ethan didn't refuse.

Although the adults never mentioned it again, everyone around them seemed to have already assumed they would get married, teasing their interactions as if they had a mutual understanding.

When she was young and naive, Amelia didn't think much of it and still followed Alexander closely.

But when she was in high school and began to understand love, she finally realized her hidden feelings for Alexander.

Yet Alexander never showed any special treatment towards Amelia. He was good to her, but just enough—not too much, not too little, never crossing any boundaries.

Although Amelia was anxious, she couldn't figure out his thoughts, so they continued a relationship as family.

Taking the water handed to her by the police, Amelia eagerly inquired about Alexander's situation, "Is he okay? Is he hurt?"

The officer pursed his lips and pointed to a nearby room. "See for yourself. This kid hit hard. He's fine, but he sent the other guy to the hospital with a bottle, and he's still not awake."

Hearing that he wasn't hurt, Amelia finally breathed a sigh of relief. It was good to know he was fine.

After all, the Anderson Family was wealthy and wouldn't mind paying some money to settle this incident.

Rushing into the room, the first thing Amelia saw wasn't Alexander's angry face, but a girl crying on his shoulder.

A tight short skirt outlined her beautiful figure, a bold outfit which Amelia never dared to try.

She was wearing beautiful makeup, looking like a delicate doll under the light.

With such a beauty crying in your arms, anyone would be moved.

Right then, Alexander didn't even bother with his own wounds and started comforting her, "I'm fine, aren't I? What are you so scared of?"

The girl wiped her tears and complained, "I'm worried about you! You're so impulsive, and there were so many of them. What if something happened to you?"

Feeling the girl's concern, Alexander's mood visibly improved. He whispered something to her, making the girl blush and lightly punch his shoulder. "Naughty!"

In just a few seconds, Amelia felt a pang of bitterness in her heart, not knowing how to announce her presence.

She stood dumbly at the door, letting the rainwater from her hair drip onto the floor.

Fortunately, Alexander saw her figure and quickly stood up to walk towards her. "You're here. Why didn't you bring an umbrella? What if you catch a cold?"

For a moment, all her words of reproach were stuck in her throat.

Amelia looked up at Alexander in front of her. He was always like this.

No matter how much trouble he caused, he always smiled at her, even if he was injured, he would first care about her situation.

She didn't know whether to be angry or not.

But why did he treat everyone like this? This kind of favoritism, this kind of care, couldn't it be just for her?

Her throat felt tight, and her eyes ached a bit.

She couldn't tell if it was because she was catching a cold due to the rain or if her heart was hurting.

Mia asked, "Who is this? Your friend?"

Just a few seconds after the two of them looked at each other, a pair of fair hands pulled Alexander away.

The girl smiled as she looked Amelia up and down. Her tone was calm, but her eyes couldn't hide the hostility.

"She is the one I told you about, the one I grew up with, Amelia."

"Amelia, this is my girlfriend, Mia Davis."

Girlfriend? Even though she had already suspected their relationship, hearing Alexander admit it, Amelia's heart still ached.

Mia understood and warmly took Amelia's hand. "So you're the Amelia he always talks about! You're really pretty. I've always wanted to meet you!" Her words were nice, but her grip was so strong.

Amelia's fair skin quickly turned red.

"It's getting late. Let's go back early! The hotel front desk just called me!" Mia then wrapped her arm around Alexander's, smiling as she spoke.

Hotel? What hotel?

Amelia wanted to ask Alexander if he was going to a hotel with her tonight. But she couldn't. What right did she have to ask that question? She couldn't cross the line.

Alexander glanced at Amelia and affectionately pinched Mia's nose. "Alright, we'll leave soon."

Alexander asked, "Amelia, how are you getting back?"

Amelia clenched the edge of her clothes. How was she getting back?

It was already too late and she was probably going to be written up for staying out all night by the dorm supervisor again.

Even if she went back, the dorm supervisor wouldn't open the door, and she would have to stay outside for the night.

But she could only say, "I'll take a cab back. It's fine."

Alexander wanted to ask more, but Mia was already impatiently pulling him out. "Alright, alright! She's a grown-up, why are you still worried? Didn't you promise to stay with me tonight? Let's go!"

Unable to refuse her, Alexander nodded at Amelia, "Then you go back early, don't stay out too long. I'm leaving now."

Watching Alexander's figure disappear in the night, she lowered her hands hidden in her sleeves.

There were deep marks from her nails on them.
