Chapter 6 The Three-Carat Engagement Ring

"It's not your fault," I said, holding Isabella's hand. "I came back today to pack my stuff. I've been doing great with Sophia, so you and Aiden don't need to worry about me."

Isabella smiled, "I've watched you grow up. You've always been independent and sensible. I'm at ease."

She helped me pack, and it went pretty fast. I just needed to grab some daily necessities later, and that would be it. The rest, I would come back on my day off to move everything together.

"When the weather's nice in a couple of days, I'll come over to see you and bring some of Aiden's specialty dishes. Look at you, you've lost weight," Isabella said as she helped me carry my things to the door. Before I got into the taxi, she added with concern.

I nodded, "Okay, let me know before you come, and I'll meet you at the community gate."

Isabella said, "Come back for meals on your days off. If you don't want to see James, we'll just kick him out that day."

I nodded and waved at her.

In the evening, I went to the nearby mall to buy daily necessities, but I saw Ava asking something in a baby store.

I glanced at the job posting at the entrance of the baby store. Could she be looking for a job?

I didn't want to run into her, so I took the escalator down to the supermarket.

Unexpectedly, when I came out, I saw her carrying a large bag of baby supplies.

Ava saw me and asked, "Emily, what are you doing here?"

"I thought it was obvious," I said, gesturing to the things I was carrying.

"And you, are these for Cucumber?" I smirked and asked.

"You..." Ava seemed insulted and was at a loss for words.

"Not for Cucumber? Could it be that you're really pregnant?" I couldn't help but click my tongue. So, this was James's child!

"No, I'm not pregnant. Don't talk nonsense. Some of these things are indeed for Cucumber." Ava seemed a bit guilty.

I shrugged indifferently and said, "It's okay, James and I have already broken up. It's great; he won't have to sneak around being a dad to someone else's kid anymore."

"What? How could you break up?" Ava clearly didn't know about this. She even vaguely wanted to show off something to me.

"Just a man, if you want him, take him." I turned around, not wanting to talk to her any longer.

In case Ava really got pregnant, she might blame me if she got too emotional.

I rearranged some of the soft furnishings in the house and touched up the places where the paint had peeled with eco-friendly paint.

Living alone was obviously more comfortable.

When Isabella came to bring me food, I finally told her the truth over the phone. She sighed and said, "We were worried you might be sad, but you're much more open-minded than we thought."

When she arrived, James was following her.

"He insisted on coming. I scolded him and even hit him. But there's no way to stop him," Isabella said, glaring at James.

James gently pushed her aside and squeezed in my house.

"Emily, I was wrong. I've been thinking about you and regretting it these past few days," James said, hugging me suddenly.

"What are you doing?" I quickly looked to Isabella for help, but she put down the insulated container and left directly.

I only saw her close the door. I had no choice but to step on James's foot and take advantage of his pain to escape his embrace.

James promised, "Emily, I swear, I've entrusted Ava to John and a friend of mine. I won't see her again. Please give me another chance, okay?"
