Chapter 13
Frank was standing next to the flashy Ferrari, and when he saw the two of them coming out, he whistled at them.
"Dr. Graham, what a coincidence!"
Leonard gave him a cold look but said nothing.
Frank was already used to Leonard's icy demeanor. He was more interested in Margaret, who was with Leonard today.
"Hey beautiful, nice to see you again! Are you Dr. Graham's girlfriend? How long have you been dating?"
He fired off a series of questions, making Leonard's face darken even more.
"Hello, I'm his wife, Margaret. We've been married."
Margaret told the truth without intending to hide it. She glanced at Leonard as she spoke, and seeing no reaction from him, she assumed he didn't mind.
"What? You're married?"
Frank's mouth opened wide in surprise, not expecting Leonard to have gotten married without a word.
"Sorry about yesterday, it wasn't intentional to leave you waiting. If you're free today, come over for dinner."
Margaret had thought about it last night and felt it wasn't right to leave Frank at the subway station like that.
Frank looked at Margaret's delicate face and was about to agree immediately.
"Do you have nothing better to do every day?"
Leonard glared at him, his eyes sharp as knives, almost piercing through him.
"Margaret invited me to dinner, what's it to you? Are you jealous?"
Frank laughed and leaned his elbow on Leonard's shoulder, but Leonard stepped back, nearly causing Frank to fall.
Margaret watched their interaction and found it quite fascinating.
Maybe this was what they called complementary personalities.
"Leonard, you can have my car, but it's with John right now. If you have time, go get it. You can use it from now on; it'll be more convenient for you to get to work."
Margaret thought it wasn't right for him to drive that old, beat-up Hyundai every day. That car was at least ten years old.
Anyway, the car was hers, bought with her own money, not the Thorne Family's.
"I'm leaving now. See you tonight."
She waved at Leonard before walking out of the neighborhood.
"Margaret, let me give you a ride!"
His car had plenty of power.
Margaret glanced at the Ferrari parked by the roadside and smiled, "No, thanks. I'll go by myself!"
She'd be crazy to take such a flashy Ferrari to work.
As Margaret's figure disappeared from their sight, Frank raised an eyebrow at Leonard and said, "Aren't you going to explain this sudden wife of yours?"
He looked down and saw that the car Margaret gave Leonard was an Audi.
Not bad.
"What's it to you?"
Leonard looked at the car keys in his hand and put them in his pocket.
"Why wouldn't it be my business? Doesn't Margaret know that any car in your garage could buy several Audis?"
Leonard was getting impatient, "Why are you here?"
"Didn't you ask me to look into something for you yesterday? I'm here to report. Howard did come to your neighborhood last night, and the surveillance shows he went up to your building."
At this point, Leonard's mood had darkened considerably.
"The hallway surveillance shows he pulled Margaret into the emergency exit. There's no camera inside, so I couldn't see what happened, but Margaret came out twenty minutes later, looking fine."
If something serious had happened, Margaret would have come out crying.
But from the surveillance, Margaret seemed relatively calm.
Leonard said nothing and walked towards the security office.
"Hey, say something. Isn't Margaret Howard's ex-fiancée? No wonder she looked familiar."
Frank kept talking.
Leonard reached the security booth, pulled up a photo of Howard on his phone, and showed it to the security guard.
"Don't let this man in again."
The security guard was slightly taken aback. Although their neighborhood wasn't particularly high-end, visitors still needed to register.
He remembered Howard from the photo, who had said he was visiting his girlfriend.
"Sir, did something happen?"
"He tried to assault a young woman. He's a threat. If you let him in again and something happens, will you take responsibility?"
The security guard, unable to take responsibility, nodded in agreement, promising not to let Howard in again.
Stella had been in the hospital for a few days, waiting for the baby to stabilize before preparing to be discharged.
Layla drove over to pick her up. Sitting in the car, she dialed Margaret's number.
Margaret saw the caller ID and frowned, then pressed the hang-up button. To prevent Layla from calling again, she blocked the number.
Margaret's company was a media company, currently going public, with a lot to handle.
She hadn't been in for several days, and now that she was back, she was swamped.
Finally, by noon, her colleagues asked if she wanted to join them for lunch.
Margaret used to have lunch with Howard, but sometimes he would say he was too busy. In hindsight, he was probably with Stella.
She smiled and nodded, "Sure, what should we have for lunch? How about the restaurant downstairs?"
She chatted and laughed with her colleagues as they went downstairs, not expecting to see Howard and Stella getting out of a car at the company entrance.
After a busy morning, seeing the two people she least wanted to see made Margaret's face fall.
Some colleagues recognized Howard as her ex-fiancé and let go of her hand, "Margaret, we'll go eat first. Join us when you're done."
Stella, holding Howard's arm, smiled at Margaret, "Margaret..."
Margaret cut her off, "What are you doing here?"
Stella pretended to be aggrieved, her eyes reddening as she glanced at Howard before speaking.
"I called you today, but you didn't answer, so I came to find you. Howard didn't want me to come alone, so he insisted on bringing me."
Stella leaned into Howard's arms as she spoke, looking delicate.
Howard held her waist, not saying anything but looking like a loving husband.
"The previous incident was unpleasant, and now that Dad is out of the hospital, we thought we could have a meal together and put it behind us. We're still family."
