Chapter 14

Her words made Margaret want to laugh. She had been with the Thorne Family for so many years and was never considered part of the family. Now that Stella and Howard were together, suddenly she was supposed to be family?

"I don't have time."

She wasn't lying; she had just returned to the company and was very busy.

"Margaret, Dad really wants to see you. You married Leonard after knowing him for just one day. You should bring him back to meet Dad, right? Do you want Dad to worry about you? He just got out of the hospital and is still very weak. Don't upset him. This dinner is also Dad's idea."

Stella was lying. Whether it was John's idea or not, who knew? She said it was, so it was.

Margaret knew this was one of Stella's usual tricks to make her go.

She used to fall for it every time, but not this time.

"I said I don't have time. If you guys want to have dinner, go ahead. I'm not going."

She walked away after saying that. Lunch break was limited, and she didn't want to waste her eating and resting time on these two people.

Stella didn't expect her to refuse so bluntly. She had come to find Margaret herself, and Margaret didn't give her any face at all.

"Howard, look at Margaret. I was just trying to be nice and ease the tension between everyone!"

Howard patted her hand, "Don't worry about her. She'll come eventually."

Seeing him so confident, Stella felt relieved.

Margaret was having lunch with her colleagues when she received a call from John.

"Hello, John."

"Margaret, are you busy right now?"

John's tone was very polite, making it hard for Margaret to be too stiff.

"Not busy, John. Go ahead."

"Margaret, I just got out of the hospital. I know you got married, so I want to meet your husband Leonard. I know it's a bit much to ask, but I want to see if Leonard is worthy of you. It's also a way to give your parents some peace of mind."

Margaret didn't expect John to personally invite her to dinner.

She already didn't want to go, and now she had to bring Leonard, which made her even more stressed.

"John, we might be quite busy these days. He's at the hospital with many patients and surgeries every day."

"I understand. You can set the time for dinner, even if it's later. Margaret, I'm just worried about you. What's happened recently has been unfair to you. As your uncle, this is the least I can do."

John's tone carried a hint of helplessness.

Caught between Margaret and his family, he was indeed in a difficult position.

Margaret didn't want to disappoint him or cause any more issues with his health, so she sighed and said, "Alright, I'll make time to bring him over that day."

Hearing this, John finally felt relieved and hung up the phone.

After work, Margaret returned home, but Leonard wasn't back yet.

She waited for a while, thinking about how to tell him about the dinner with the Thorne Family.

She didn't know how long she waited, but Leonard still hadn't returned.

Seeing that it was already dark outside, Margaret got up from the sofa, put on a coat, and decided to go to his hospital.

On the way, she bought some food from a restaurant, worried he might be too busy to eat.

At the hospital, Leonard was in his office reviewing some materials. He was surprised when Margaret walked in with a plastic bag.

"You're still working, huh? I brought you dinner. You should eat something first!"

Leonard was a bit flattered by her initiative.

He opened the plastic container, took a few bites, and Margaret asked, "How does it taste?"

If he liked it, she thought it might be a good idea to order from this restaurant often, so she wouldn't have to cook every day.

"Not as good as your cooking."

Margaret paused. It seemed her plan to order takeout had failed.

"Did you come just to bring me dinner?"

Leonard ate quickly and wiped his mouth before asking her purpose.

Margaret smoothed her hair, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Well, my uncle John wants to invite you and me to dinner this weekend. What do you think? If you're too busy, I can go by myself!"

She added the last part, fearing he might refuse.

"I might have to work overtime this weekend..."

Before Leonard could finish, Margaret understood his meaning. "It's okay, I'll go by myself then."

Leonard glanced at her. She said it was okay, but her lips were pouting.

Unable to resist, he leaned in and kissed her deeply.

Margaret didn't expect him to kiss her suddenly. She was startled, but under his skilled kiss, her body gradually softened, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, responding to the kiss.

When she was almost out of breath, Leonard finally let her go. "I mean I'll try to make it. Send me the address on my phone."

Margaret blinked, her face flushed. "Oh, okay... okay."

She stood up, "You get back to work. I'll head home."

Leaving the hospital, the cold wind outside cooled Margaret down.

She touched her face, realizing she quite liked kissing Leonard.

On the day of the dinner, Margaret went alone first, not expecting to find not only John and Layla in the private room but also Howard's mother, Hazel Shaw. Arthur was the only one missing.

Margaret greeted everyone and found an empty seat.

After sitting down, Stella, sitting next to Howard, smiled and said, "Margaret, why didn't your husband Leonard come with you?"

"He's still at the hospital and might be late. We can start without him."

Hearing that Leonard was still working, a hint of mockery appeared in Stella's eyes.

Leonard was indeed just a poor doctor. Even if he worked overtime, he was just earning a hard living, nothing compared to Howard.

Hazel, sitting on Howard's other side, looked at her and said, "Margaret, when did you get married? I hadn't heard anything about it. It was so sudden."

Before Margaret could respond, Stella chimed in, "Margaret and Dr. Graham fell in love at first sight and got married the same day. I really admire Margaret's boldness. She didn't even know who Leonard was and dared to marry him."

Hazel's expression turned complicated upon hearing this.

Howard placed a peeled shrimp in Stella's bowl and casually glanced at Margaret sitting across from them.

"By the way, Margaret, Howard and I plan to take wedding photos before my belly gets too big. Why don't you and Leonard join us? We can go together!"

Stella's eyes sparkled with excitement as she looked at Margaret.
