Chapter 6
She looked surprised, and then noticed that besides her and Layla, Margaret was the only customer in the store, and her expression turned mocking.
"Margaret, why are you here alone to buy a mattress? Where's your boyfriend Leonard? Didn't he come with you?"
Margaret didn't respond and handed her card to the salesperson.
Seeing that Margaret was ignoring her, Stella's face turned ugly. She pulled Layla forward a few steps and stood in front of Margaret.
"Margaret, are you really married? You just got married, and he's already letting you buy a mattress by yourself, using your own card? Margaret, Leonard..."
She covered her mouth with her hand, as if she couldn't say more.
Layla's face was also extremely unpleasant. "Margaret, is this the decision you made behind John's back? Are you trying to make us angry? Look at you, just married and already rushing to serve Leonard. Are you that lowly?"
Lowly?
Margaret almost laughed out loud.
She got married and was buying things for her own home, and they called that lowly?
The salesperson stood nearby, looking amused.
Layla grabbed Margaret's arm. "You can't buy this mattress."
The items in this store weren't cheap, and the mattress Margaret chose would cost at least a few thousand dollars.
Layla wasn't worried about Margaret; she was just jealous of those thousands of dollars.
Margaret looked coldly at Layla in front of her, pulling her hand out of Layla's grip. "I'm spending my own money to buy things. What does it have to do with you? Your possessiveness over my money is too much."
The salesperson couldn't help but laugh, but quickly stopped when Layla glared at her.
"Margaret, John and I raised you, and now you're spending money on Leonard? You may not care about your reputation, but we do!"
"If you care about your reputation, why did you let your daughter Stella sleep with my fiancé Howard?"
Margaret had endured enough over the past decade.
Now that she had decided to cut ties with the Thorne family, she didn't need to care about their feelings.
The salesperson's eyes widened at the juicy news, fully attentive.
Stella and Layla's faces turned pale.
"Margaret, Howard never liked you. Besides, you're already married. There's no need to say such harsh things. Have you forgotten our sisterly bond over the years? I still consider you my sister."
Stella's eyes were red, looking heartbroken by Margaret's words.
Margaret didn't want to waste any more time. She looked at the salesperson and said, "Swipe the card and have it delivered to the address I just gave you."
The salesperson snapped out of it and quickly completed the transaction.
"Margaret, don't be like this."
Margaret ignored them, took the receipt, and started to leave.
Layla, having been publicly shamed by Margaret, was furious at being ignored and became very angry.
"Margaret, is this how you treat Stella and me? If it weren't for us raising you, you'd be dead by now. Is this how you repay us?"
These words made Margaret's shoulders slump a bit.
She knew she had been living under their roof all these years, and no matter how careful she was, she had indeed been living off the Thorne family.
She looked up at the Thorne mother and daughter standing arm in arm and suddenly felt like laughing.
Blood is indeed thicker than water.
"Layla, what exactly do you want to say?"
Margaret sighed and softened her tone.
Stella quickly spoke up, "Margaret, is Leonard's situation really that bad? He can't even buy a mattress? The money on that card was given to you by Dad, right?"
Margaret's eyes flickered. So they thought the money on the card was from John.
Layla, furious, looked at her. "John gave you money, and you're spending it on Leonard? If Leonard finds out how lowly you're acting and something happens to him, what will you do?"
Her face twisted, her eyes bulging, making her look hideous.
Seeing Margaret's stubborn look, she raised her hand and slapped her.
The slap was loud and clear, and the salesperson was stunned.
"Ma'am, please don't get physical!"
This was a store, and if anything happened, the salesperson would also be in trouble.
"This is my family matter. What does it have to do with you? Margaret, you're too much!"
Stella watched Margaret get slapped and felt delighted.
She had loving parents, while Margaret was just an orphan. How could she compare to her?
Margaret couldn't win against her.
Margaret held her face, the side that was slapped already numb, showing how hard Layla had hit her.
"Margaret, you brought this on yourself. If you weren't so stubborn, Mom wouldn't have hit you. Just admit you're wrong, and this will be over... Ah!!"
Before she could finish, Margaret slapped her back.
Stella was shocked, unable to believe Margaret dared to hit her!
"Are you crazy, Margaret? How dare you hit Stella!"
Margaret flexed her wrist. She had slapped so hard that her wrist felt numb.
"You hit me, I hit Stella. Isn't that fair?"
She was smart enough not to hit an elder in public.
But Stella was younger than her, so what if she hit her?
After slapping Stella, Margaret bumped her shoulder and started to leave.
"Margaret, Mom is still your elder."
Margaret thought Stella hadn't had enough and was about to hit her again, but before she could, Stella stumbled and hit a pillar behind her. "Ah!"
Margaret looked at her hand in shock. Was she really that strong?
The next second, her arm was grabbed and twisted behind her.
"Margaret, what are you doing?"
Howard frowned at Margaret, full of anger.
"Howard, don't blame Margaret. She didn't mean it."
Here we go again, with the fake act.
Howard looked at Stella's pitiful face and frowned. "Why do you hate Stella so much, Margaret? I never knew you were so vicious."
Vicious?
Margaret sneered. "Now you know. Now move."
Howard's face stiffened at her words. "Margaret, you..."
Before he could finish, a man walked up behind Margaret. Leonard, with his long legs, stood beside her without hesitation and naturally wrapped his arm around her waist.
