Chapter 10 Give a Kiss

"Blood! Joseph Miller's head is bleeding!" someone screamed, and in no time, everyone in the banquet hall rushed over.

Emily stopped in her tracks and headed towards the commotion.

"Doctor! Somebody get a doctor!" a voice shouted.

The hotel was fancy enough to have its own medical room for emergencies.

"There's no one in the medical room; the on-duty doctor had to leave for a family emergency."

"Then call 911. Has anyone called 911?"

"Yeah, someone did, but Mr. Miller's condition is really bad..."

"What happened to Mr. Miller? Why did he collapse? And all this blood. Can he wait for the ambulance?"

Emily pushed through the crowd and saw a man in his fifties or sixties on the ground, gasping in pain, with blood pooling around his head.

'No, he can't wait,' Emily thought.

She tapped the person next to her. "Excuse me, let me through."

Everyone was freaking out, and the host of the banquet was sweating bullets. If something happened to Joseph, the Miller family would be furious.

When Emily spoke up, everyone turned to her, hoping she could help. But when they saw her face, their hope turned to disappointment and disdain.

"This is serious. Don't make it worse. Step aside."

"You're good at drinking and dancing, but saving someone? Just because your grandpa's a top doctor doesn't mean you are."

"Yeah, everyone knows you're the worst in the Johnson family when it comes to medicine. I heard you almost failed every exam because you were too busy dating."

"Same here. If it weren't for your grandpa's status, you wouldn't have graduated."

"I heard you once gave a patient the wrong prognosis."

"We can't let her treat Mr. Miller. She might make it worse."

"If you want attention, go to a bar. Don't mess around when someone's life is at stake."

"Go away, don't cause harm."

Someone started pushing Emily, and soon more people joined in.

"Get out!"

"Leave now."

"Dressed like that, are you here to save someone or harm them?"

"Step aside. Mr. Miller isn't interested in you."

Emily stared at the crowd, confused about why they saw her this way. She had been a dedicated housewife for five years, putting her heart into her marriage with James. How did she go from being a respected doctor to a quack?

Failing exams and giving wrong prognoses were things Sophia did.

"No wonder Mr. Smith mocked her earlier. Even now, she's trying to get attention and seduce men. I look down on her too."

Someone's words seemed to give Emily an answer.

She gritted her teeth and looked at James, meeting James's cold eyes as he stepped aside to reveal Sophia.

Sophia stepped forward confidently. "Let me try. I'm a doctor."

The banquet hall went silent for a moment, then erupted in chatter.

"It's Ms. Brown. She's young, but everyone at the hospital likes her."

"Professors love having her assist in surgeries."

"With all the news about her engagement to Mr. Smith, I almost forgot she's a top doctor."

"She did my mom's surgery, and she's doing great now."

"Ms. Brown, thank goodness you're here. Please save him."

"Ms. Brown, please help. You, annoying woman, get out of the way!"

Someone pushed Emily again, making way for Sophia.

Sophia glanced at Emily, who was almost knocked to the ground, and walked over to Joseph. She checked the blood flowing from his head and then felt his pulse at his neck, a slight smile playing on her lips.

Instead of treating Joseph's head wound, she raised her right hand and loosely covered his mouth and nose, as if to smother him.

Murmurs arose around them.

"What’s she doing? Is this how you save someone?"

"Mr. Miller already looks like he can't breathe. Covering his mouth and nose will make it worse, won't it?"

"Isn't Ms. Brown supposed to be a top doctor? How could she..."

As the doubts grew louder, someone suddenly shouted, "Mr. Miller is awake! Look, Mr. Miller opened his eyes."

Everyone looked closely and indeed saw Joseph open his eyes, immediately admiring Sophia.

"Ms. Brown is amazing, she just covered Mr. Miller's mouth and nose for a moment, and he woke up."

"Sophia truly deserves Mr. Smith's admiration."

"Ms. Brown and Mr. Smith are such a perfect match."

Listening to the surrounding praise, Sophia's smile widened.

Sophia helped Joseph up and explained to the crowd, "It's actually nothing. Mr. Miller was just hyperventilating, causing too much carbon dioxide to be expelled, making the concentration too low, which is why he felt so uncomfortable. At this time, you just need to cover the mouth and nose to keep the carbon dioxide at a normal level. As for Mr. Miller's head wound, it looks scary, but it's not a big problem. Just wait for the ambulance to arrive and do a simple bandage."

Before having James bring Sophia over, she was worried that Joseph's condition might be too complicated for her to handle, which would ruin the reputation she had painstakingly built over the years.

Fortunately, Joseph just had the most common hyperventilation syndrome that most people didn't understand.

She solved the problem effortlessly.

Listening to the continuous praise from the crowd, Sophia felt more confident about marrying into the Smith family.

Sophia glanced at Emily, who was struggling to get up from the ground, and said with a smile, "Actually, it's really nothing, just a simple little thing. And just now, Emily's intention to save someone was good. I think Mr. Miller waking up also has something to do with Emily."

Emily, who everyone had forgotten, once again became the center of discussion.

"What credit does she have? She looks like she's here to steal the credit."

"Ms. Brown, you're too kind. Be careful of being deceived by a woman like her."

"Ms. Brown is so amazing, that woman can't deceive Ms. Brown. But Ms. Brown, be careful not to let that woman seduce Mr. Smith. She seems very good at seducing men."

"I would never be seduced by her!" James, who had been watching, suddenly spoke. He looked coldly at Emily not far away. "Even if she were the last woman on Earth, I would never fall for her."
