Chapter 11 I'm Here to Save Him

"James." Sophia looked at James with eyes full of emotion and said shyly, "I feel the same. In this world, I only have feelings for you and want to spend my life with you."

"Mr. Smith and Ms. Brown are so affectionate."

"I'm so touched."

"Ms. Brown's achievements are enviable."

Many women present held their hands to their chests in admiration.

The men were more direct.

"Mr. Smith, shouldn't you give your fiancée a kiss at a time like this?"

"Kiss her!"

"Kiss! Kiss!"

"Kiss!"

The urging grew louder as if they wouldn't let them leave without a kiss.

Listening to the cheers and looking at the two people tightly embracing each other, Emily felt heartbroken again.

This was the man she loved, her husband.

When she was being accused, harassed, slandered, and pushed to the ground, he didn't even look at her, as if she were a stranger.

Sophia was merely reminded not to let him be taken away, and he publicly declared his love for Sophia.

Why did he hate her but like Sophia so much?

What did she lack compared to Sophia?

Clearly, she was more outstanding than Sophia.

Sophia smiled at everything in front of her.

She enjoyed this feeling immensely.

When she appeared in public with Emily in the past, Emily was always the center of attention. Now, she was finally the one being noticed.

Emily, in her quest for infinite glory, ended up looking like a fool.

The more she shone, the more Emily faded.

She smiled, stood on tiptoe, lowered her eyes, and leaned towards James, waiting to receive his kiss.

At that moment, Joseph, who had been standing nearby, collapsed again.

Sophia was buzzing with excitement; her first kiss with James got cut short.

She spun around, freaked out, and saw Joseph sprawled on the ground, looking even worse than before.

"Mr. Miller, what's going on? What happened to him? Did someone upset him?" Sophia asked, her voice shaky.

"Nope. Mr. Miller was just standing here, minding his own business," someone replied.

So what the heck happened?

Sophia's mind was racing.

She had just managed to help Joseph earlier, but now she had no clue what was wrong with him again.

"Ms. Brown, what's up with Mr. Miller? Why did he pass out again?"

"Ms. Brown, hurry and check on him."

"Ms. Brown was amazing just now; she can definitely save him again."

"Ms. Brown."

The constant urging made Sophia kneel down to check on Joseph.

She tried to calm herself, reminding herself she was a doctor and she could fix this.

She had done it before, and she could do it again.

But she was too nervous, too scared of losing everything she had just gained. Her hands and fingers were shaking, making it impossible to figure out what was wrong with Joseph, let alone treat him.

"Is the ambulance here yet? What about the hotel's doctor? Is he back?" the banquet host asked.

"No. The hotel's doctor isn't back yet. It's rush hour, and the ambulance is stuck in traffic. They said it'll take at least another twenty minutes to get here." This news made everyone in the banquet hall even more anxious.

People nearby kept pushing Sophia.

"Ms. Brown, hurry up and save him. Stop shaking."

"Ms. Brown, you're a doctor. How can your hands shake? Hurry up and save him."

"Hurry up, Ms. Brown. If you don't save him, he might die."

"Sophia, what's wrong?" James walked over, bent down, and asked softly.

Sophia glanced up at James, panic etched across her face. She wanted to save him but had no idea how.

In school, her grades were never that great.

She didn't do well in the hospital either; it was only because she relied on James that the professors let her into the operating room.

Seeing that Joseph was about to die in front of everyone, an authoritative voice rang out in the banquet hall. "Everyone move aside. I'll save him!"

Sophia and James looked over and saw it was Emily.

People in the banquet hall started whispering.

"What's her deal? Ms. Brown couldn't do it, and she thinks she can?"

"Does she think that just because everyone praised Ms. Brown, they'll praise her too if she steps up now?"

"I think she just wants to compete with Ms. Brown for Mr. Smith."

Given the urgency, Emily had no time to care about their comments or explain anything to Sophia and James.

She reached out and grabbed Sophia, pushing her aside. Fearing she didn't have enough strength to move James, she directly bumped him out of the way with her body.

"See, I told you, she's trying to seduce Mr. Smith. Look at her; she's all over him."

"How shameless can she be, seducing Mr. Smith in public? Mr. Smith is about to marry Ms. Brown. Does she think doing this will make Mr. Smith like her? Mr. Smith isn't that shallow."

After steadying herself, Sophia immediately walked over to James. "James, are you okay?"

James nodded, his face cold as he looked at Emily.

Sophia followed James's gaze.

At that moment, Emily bent down and grabbed the hem of her fishtail dress, tearing a large slit, revealing her long, fair legs.

"See, I told you, she's trying to seduce Mr. Smith. First, she was all over him, and now she's tearing her clothes."

"Stop it."

"Ms. Brown saved Mr. Miller by covering his nose and mouth. Do you think tearing your dress will save him?"

The crowd began to criticize Emily.

Sophia knew Emily tore her dress to make it easier to squat down and save Joseph.

But she didn't want Emily to save him. If Emily succeeded, wouldn't that mean she was better than Sophia? What would everyone think of Sophia then?

Sophia reached out to pull Emily back.

"Emily, I just checked, and Mr. Miller's condition is really serious. We don't have the right medical equipment here; it's not something we can handle," Sophia said, trying to sound reasonable.

"We should wait for the ambulance. They have the advanced gear and can definitely save Mr. Miller. We shouldn't make things worse. If Mr. Miller can't be saved because of your actions..." Sophia trailed off, shifting the blame for Joseph's potential death onto Emily.

If Joseph died, Emily would take the blame. Sophia, who once feared his death in her care, now hoped it would be on Emily.

And the Smith family would never allow a woman who caused someone's death to marry into their family.

"Shut up!" Emily forcefully pushed Sophia away, causing her to stagger and nearly fall.

James immediately stepped forward to support her, his face cold as he questioned, "Emily, what are you doing? Sophia is thinking of you."

Emily sneered and interrupted him, "You two scumbags, stay away from me, and don't interfere with my rescue."

"Emily!" James's face darkened even more. "For old times' sake, I'm kindly reminding you. Don't try to show off and end up being a murderer."

"James, do you think I'm as incompetent as Sophia, who needs to rely on others to complete a surgery?" While performing CPR, Emily glanced up at James. "James, it seems you're a fool. You never knew what kind of person Sophia is, and you never knew what kind of person I am. I truly regret ever liking you."

This wasn't the first time Emily had told him she regretted liking him, but unlike the heartache before, this time he felt a deep panic, as if something precious was slipping away.

Emily ignored James and focused on performing CPR.

After two rounds, Joseph still hadn't woken up. Emily began unbuttoning Joseph's shirt, starting from the collar and working her way down.

"Why is she unbuttoning Mr. Miller's shirt now?"

"Why does her rescue involve tearing her own dress or unbuttoning Mr. Miller's shirt? Does she think the clothes caused Mr. Miller's condition and that he'll wake up if he's not wearing them?"

"Do you even know how to save someone? Don't end up killing Mr. Miller."

Emily ignored the crowd, and after unbuttoning Mr. Miller's shirt, she clenched her fist and pounded heavily on his chest repeatedly.

Everyone around was stunned.

Was Emily trying to make sure Joseph was completely dead by beating him to death?

Sophia bit her lip hard.

Precordial thump.

Emily was actually performing a precordial thump.

Didn't Emily know that the medical community had widely recognized this method as ineffective and could delay CPR, leading to its removal from cardiac resuscitation protocols?

Was Emily so sure that her thumping would defibrillate Joseph's heart?

Wasn't Emily worried that if it didn't work and affected Joseph's treatment, causing his death, it would ruin her reputation?

Sophia frowned as she watched Emily's actions.

But soon, Sophia's frown relaxed.

At this moment, Sophia hoped Joseph would die, confident everyone would blame Emily.

The Miller family would trouble Emily, James would never be interested in her again, and even Ava, who always doted on Emily, would not stand by her this time.

After all, Emily would have caused someone's death.

'Joseph, just die,' Sophia chanted in her heart.

After a while, Joseph's eyelids twitched.

"Mr. Miller has been saved?" the person closest to Joseph whispered something.
