Chapter 6 Emily, Enjoy the Gift I Gave You.

Daphne had a solid night's sleep. When she finally woke up, it was already ten in the morning.

She lazily grabbed her phone and started scrolling. It was already blowing up in the news.

Daphne got up and pulled open the curtains. The golden autumn sunlight poured in, bathing her in warmth. The game was just getting started.

Back when the Morgan Family crumbled, all their assets got scattered. Even the villa they lived in was snatched up by Mabel and her family. They only kept Daphne and her mom around to keep up appearances.

Lost in thought, her phone rang urgently. Daphne didn't pick up right away. She smirked at the name on the screen.

The trending news was a video of Emily bullying someone at school. It also revealed she hired someone to take her exams and that her thesis and dissertation were likely plagiarized.

All those awards? Won by Daphne. Why help Emily? For moments like this.

The Morgan Group was all about high-end design—clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry, you name it. After the family fell apart, they had to bow down to Mabel's Family.

Daphne had to play the mediocre card while Emily took all the credit, racked up awards, and soaked in the praise, even graduating as an outstanding student.

Now, it was showtime.

After changing clothes and heading downstairs, Evelyn quickly brought over some food and medicine.

"Evelyn, I need to head out for a bit. Where's Mr. Ward?"

Watching Daphne sip her porridge, Evelyn thought, 'With such a frail body, no wonder she got a fever from a little rain. Once she recovers, I'll whip up some nutritious meals for her.'

Evelyn said, "Mr. Ward went to the company. He also told me to take good care of you."

Seeing Evelyn's motherly smile, Daphne thought, 'He seems to trust me. After Lyra's two failed attempts to win me over, my plan seemed to be working.'

The Morgan Villa

As soon as Daphne walked in, a white vase flew past her and shattered on the floor.

"Get lost!" Emily's voice was terrifying.

Seeing Daphne return, Emily rushed over and slapped her.

Daphne's frail body couldn't take the hit. She stumbled and crashed into a flower stand, causing more ceramic to shatter.

"You bitch, where have you been? I called you so many times, and you didn't answer!"

As she spoke, Emily lunged at her again.

Luckily, Skylar quickly stepped in to stop Emily.

Mabel sat coldly on the sofa, looking pissed.

"Those designs of yours are now exposed as plagiarized. What's going on?"

"Plagiarized?" Daphne looked innocently at Emily and then at Mabel, quickly shaking her head.

"I don't know. I made those myself. How could they be plagiarized?"

"My degree has been revoked! All those awards are nullified, and you still claim it's not plagiarism!"

Emily lunged at Daphne again, but Skylar held her back with all his might.

Daphne cried out in grievance, hurriedly explaining. "I really didn't lie. Could it be a mistake by the school? Emily, you should quickly check to see if someone is framing you..." Emily took a deep breath and asked, "So, it really wasn't you who plagiarized?"

Daphne quickly nodded. The real plagiarist was Emily, not her.

Skylar glanced at the disheveled Daphne, noticing the small cuts on her calves and the back of her hands from the broken ceramics, with blood seeping out.

"Miss, let me help you with some medicine."

"Stop!"

Mabel glared at her with disdain.

"If I find out you're behind this, I'll make you and your mother pay dearly."

"Got it, Mabel..."

"Now get out! Just looking at you makes me angry!"

Daphne followed Skylar back to Olivia's room. Olivia didn't show much emotion about her injury. Since the car accident, her mental state had been deteriorating. It was uncertain how much longer she could hold on.

"I might not come back often lately. Please take good care of her," Daphne instructed. Skylar, wiping away tears, nodded in agreement.

Her phone rang, and Carl's deep voice asked, "Are you out? Where are you?"

"Yeah, I came to see my mom."

"Crying?" Hearing the odd tone in her voice, Carl said, "I'll come get you. Wait there."

Hanging up the phone, Daphne smiled faintly. 'Emily, enjoy the gift I gave you,' she thought.

From a distance, Carl saw Daphne squatting by the roadside.

"Get in the car."

Hearing his voice, Daphne looked up, pleasantly surprised, like a stray puppy waiting for its owner to pick it up.

Carl tilted his head, looking at her with some confusion. As if deliberately avoiding him, Daphne also tilted her head, a bit flustered.

"Got hit?" Her face was red and swollen, with faint nail marks.

Seeing her nod slightly, Carl felt a bit irritated.

"Daphne, are you an idiot? Getting bullied like this in your own home."

Daphne didn't dare make a sound, just lowered her head, tears falling like crystal beads.

Carl sneered. "You really are an idiot. You know about those things, right? Try to help Emily again and see what happens."

The car sped off, the atmosphere extremely tense.

They went straight to Stellar Mall, a high-end mall under the Ward group.

Carl strode inside, feeling a bit annoyed at Daphne who struggled to keep up.

Inspecting carefully, her left leg seemed a bit off.

Before Daphne could react, Carl squatted down and lifted the hem of her skirt, revealing two or three band-aids with some dried blood.

Carl was very frustrated. This idiot didn't even know how to complain. Who knew if she had other injuries.

Seeing him wanting to check further, Daphne quickly said, "No more, just a bit on my leg and the back of my hand."

Though cursing her inwardly, Carl still slowed his pace to accommodate her.

Carl picked out a few computers and a bunch of miscellaneous electronic items, instructing the store manager to send them directly to the villa.

"The room next to the bedroom is your study."

No matter when, Daphne was always obedient and quiet. Receiving the gift, she just smiled gently at Carl.

Carl naturally held her hand. Her small hand was soft and tender, but not very warm.
