Chapter 8 Are Expenses Reimbursed

Victoria didn't even glance at the security guard or Zoey. She just drove right into the apartment complex with Joseph.

On the way, Joseph couldn't stop staring at her, totally shocked. "Are you, like, super rich or something? Where'd you get all those fancy cars?" he finally blurted out.

Victoria saw his face and burst out laughing. "Seriously? You think I'm some rich heiress? No way! I just hired those cars," she said, still chuckling. If someone needed a bunch of luxury cars fast, wedding companies were the way to go.

"So, those were all wedding cars?" Joseph was blown away by her clever move.

Victoria shrugged. "Yeah, I have a friend at a wedding company. By the way, is the company gonna cover this?" She looked at Joseph, hopeful.

Joseph's mouth twitched, and he nodded. Even if the company didn't, he knew he had to, since Victoria was Michael's wife.

After she parked the car where Joseph told her to, he got a phone call and his face fell. "Looks like we came here for nothing. The person's not home. We gotta go to her workplace," he said, apologizing.

"Never mind. It's just driving. I'll just think of it as a paid joyride," Victoria said, not bothered at all, and drove them to the new spot. This time, as they left, the security guard loudly greeted Victoria. She ignored him again.

When they got to the new place and saw the sign for a strip club, Victoria was stunned. "Is the woman the CEO is supposed to return money to here?" she asked Joseph, pointing at the sign, totally incredulous.

Joseph awkwardly scratched his nose and shrugged. "Don't worry about her job. Just take the money inside and ask for Violet Cooper."

"Is it really that simple?" Victoria felt something was off. But then she figured, 'Who would say no to free money?'

"Alright, I'm going in," she said, grabbing the paper bag and heading to the entrance. Joseph watched her go in with the staff, then got out of the car and quietly followed. He called Michael while he was at it.

In his office, Michael was anxiously waiting for news. He had personally given this task and was eager to know how his wife was doing.

As soon as his phone buzzed, he picked up immediately. "Joseph, how did it go? Is Victoria okay?" Michael asked, sounding super anxious.

Joseph looked at his phone, puzzled. He couldn't believe how different Michael sounded. The usually cool and collected Michael was now all worked up over a woman.

Joseph mentally shook his head at Michael's change and then praised Victoria. "Mr. Jones, you wouldn't believe it. Mrs. Jones is a genius!" Joseph recounted the scene at the apartment gate, highlighting how Victoria used the luxury cars from the wedding company to put the security guard and Zoey in their place.

"Of course, she's my wife," Michael said proudly on the other end. Joseph couldn't help but wonder if Michael had been replaced by someone else.

"But that security guard really ticked me off. Have their supervisor fire him," Michael ordered coldly.

Joseph agreed. "The power of love, huh? He used to never care about small stuff like this," Joseph muttered, forgetting the call was still on.

Michael frowned and asked, "What are you mumbling about? And what's Victoria doing now?"

Joseph replied, "We didn't find Ms. Cooper earlier, so we're at her bar now. Mrs. Jones just went in with the money to find her; she should be out soon."

"Got it. Keep Victoria safe. Be cautious of that crazy woman Violet; don't let Victoria get hurt," Michael instructed before hanging up.

"What could possibly happen? Besides, I'm here. Ms. Cooper wouldn't dare touch Mrs. Jones," Joseph thought Michael was being overly worried. But then, he heard the sound of a bottle breaking, followed by Victoria's scream.

Joseph's face changed, and he rushed to Violet's office, kicking the door open. The scene before him made his heart skip a beat. Victoria, her face covered in what looked like blood, was pulling the hair of Violet who was also covered in blood.

'Shit, I'm done for,' Joseph thought, feeling a shiver run down his spine. He couldn't imagine the wrath Michael would unleash if he found out Victoria was hurt.

"Are you okay, Ms. Gonzalez? Should I call an ambulance?" Joseph asked anxiously, not even glancing at Violet, who was being held by Victoria.

Victoria looked at Joseph strangely and asked, "Why would I need an ambulance? I'm not hurt."

"But there's so much blood on your face." Joseph pointed at Victoria's face, but then realized something was off. There was a scent of wine.

Hearing Joseph mention this, Victoria got angry. "This isn't blood, it's red wine! This damn Violet, I came to give her money, and she splashed wine on me. And said a bunch of nonsense! She's crazy!" Victoria yanked Violet's hair and glared at her fiercely.
