Chapter 7
Chapter 7
SOPHIE'S POV
I went back to the house. I had to make sure the house was in order and it was neatly arranged. The doctor gave me drugs. I paid for this one because I had the money to do so.
I began to arrange my house. I loved it here and I did not want to leave this place, but it looked scattered because my stepfather scattered it and stole some things away from the house and rendered it empty.
I went to the market to get some of the things that I needed for the house.
Now that Mason was giving me money, I was going to use that to get things for the house. I began to arrange them, and I felt this happiness all around me; I wanted to be comfortable in the house and keep memories of my mother alive.
I heard footsteps approaching the door. I was not expecting anyone, or was Mason coming to see me?
A knock came on the door.
" Open this door; I know you are in there," a voice came from outside.
I immediately knew who it was. It was Cecily.
I walked to the door and opened the door for her.
" What do you want?" I was trying not to let her take anything from me.
She pushed me out of the way, she took a look at the house and all around it.
" What did you do to this old, ugly place? Where did you get the money to buy all of these?" She asked me.
" It is none of your business, and you should leave here; I do not know why you keep going here like you left something," I managed to say.
She was surprised that I would say that to her.
" I see that the little money Mason had given you has gotten into your head, where is the money he gave you?" She stretched her hands out to me.
" I am not with any money; you saw that this place has changed, and they should tell you that the money has been used," I said.
" Do not tell me that. I know that there is something left from the money he gave to you"
" There is nothing here. You should leave. Besides, he gave me a specific amount of money for all of these," I said.
She was not taking it. She was so pissed with my response that she hit me on the head. I fell to the ground.
" Why did you do that? I can not believe you will do this to me even after telling you that there is no money at all; where am I supposed to get money to give to you?" I managed to stand up to my feet.
She began to search all around the place, she took my bag and turned everything that was inside on the ground. She did that to the other bags as well. I was frustrated, as I stood there watching her do that to me.
There was nothing I could do to stop her from doing that. She was never going to find any money there and that was because I had already moved it from there. I had a safe place where I usually kept my money.
She came to where I was standing and began to touch me.
" Maybe you have kept it inside your clothes." She ran her hands all over my body.
" Why did you keep the money he gave you?" She yelled at me after getting frustrated that she was not getting anything from me.
" I already told you this, there is nothing on me. There is no money whatsoever" I said.
She pushed me to the ground.
“I will get back to take that money; you better tell him to give you some more so I can take it; else, you won't be able to recognize yourself when next I come here, and you have no money to give me," she threatened.
I was not moved by it.
" You should ask your father to give you that money," I said as she got to the door.
She stopped and turned to me
" Did you say something about my father?" She asked me.
" I did, what are you ever going to do with that? You should ask your father did money and not me. I am not responsible for you and whatever you do" I said.
The next thing I felt was a slap on my cheeks, she had just slapped me across the face.
I held my cheeks in my hands. I did not want to hit her back. I stood there and watched her leave.
I began to arrange my room as I tried hard to control the tears that were threatening to fall on my face.
I picked up the things that she threw on the ground and arranged them.
My life was a mess; I stood there looking out the window. It was one of those bright days, but I was far from being a bright person.
I took my phone, there was no one to call, except for my friend, Joy.
I called her; she did not pick up at first; then I called again, and she picked up this time.
" How are you doing, I am so sorry that I have not been able to reach out to you. I have been busy with work" she said.
I sighed. I felt guilty as well; I should have reached out before now.
" It's no problem, can I come over?" I asked her.
" Of course, please do. I saw what has been going on with you and Mason. You have a lot to tell me" she giggled.
I rolled my eyes. I knew I had a lot of explanations to give her and I hope she does not throw it out
I got dressed, I was a fashion person but I had no money to get the kind of clothes I admired.
My career was also on pause because there was no money for that. I sighed as I left the house.
I got outside and began to wonder how I was ever going to get out of the place and get to where Joy was without people bringing out their cameras and facing me with them.
I took a cab with the little money left, I had taken it from where I hid it.
The car took me to where she was, she works in a store, a small one.
I walked into the place; a small smile appeared on my face; I was happy when I saw her there.
" Look at you, soon to be Mason's wife" she giggled.
" It is not that serious, and can you stop with that fake excitement? I know you, and you can not pretend about it," I said.
She giggled.
" How did that happen? And you look tired and work out, what is going on with you?" She asked too many questions at a time.
" A lot has been going on and it is only a matter of time before I break down. My stepfather sold the house to Mason. I pleaded that he let me stay in the house; I thought he was going to throw me out, but he did not do so. He asked me to marry him, for six months" I rolled my eyes.
It still sounds ridiculous to me even now.
She stood there, looking at me like she was seeing me for the first time.
" Are you not going to say something to me?" I asked her.
" I am going to say something and you might not like it or welcome it"
" Anything you say is fine",
" Did he ask you to marry him so he can clear the accusation on his name?" She asked me.
" Yes, it is. I was surprised, but I had to take it. I have no choice, Joy. Besides, it is going to help me a lot. I need this money, and you know I do," I said.
I did not want her to see it like I was doing the wrong thing. I wanted her to look at me like someone who had that only option.
" I would not blame you for that. Take all you can; you will need it after this is over," she said.
She was not smiling, she kept a straight face and that hurt me a little.
" How have you been? His about this job?" I asked her.
I saw how sadness crept to her face as I asked her that.
" I can not say it is going well because it isn't, but I have to put up with this job so I can get what I want," she said.
Her face was outside the window and she seemed to be tearing up.
“I will get you
some help if I can, maybe get you a better job," I said, even though I had no idea about that.
