Chapter 8
SOPHIE'S POV
I was not in my room when I began to hear footsteps coming towards the door. I got up and went to the door to stay. I heard the footsteps coming close. I got closer to the door and placed my ears on it.
" Come on, Sophie, open the door," I heard the voice.
It was Mason.
" Okay," I said.
I opened the door, he was standing before me. His presence held so much power.
I loved the way he arranged his hair.
" Why are you here?" I asked him.
"What kind of question is that? We are engaged, and we have to see each other often," he said.
" Really? Then you should take me to a fancy restaurant. I want a ring as well. You should do better; I can not be looking this way if I am engaged to you," I said.
I wanted to get something from him.
" Okay then, you should get dressed. I will be outside" he said.
I watched as he left the room. He was cold, and it made me feel like I was forcing him, whereas he was the one who needed my help.
I had to get dressed. I began to search for clothes to wear. I had to look good. I searched but could not find anything so good to wear.
I had to get this dress. It was short, but it was beautiful. I wore it and looked in the mirror. I wore this necklace that my mother had given to me.
I got my shoes and got ready. I left the house and met him outside.
" I am ready," I said. I was smiling because I looked good.
He turned slowly and looked at me. I could see the disgust on his face.
" What is wrong?" I said.
"What are you wearing? Is this your only dress? What kind of necklace is that?" He asked.
I looked at my dress.
" What is wrong with my dress?"
" It doesn't look like something you should be wearing, and what are you putting on your neck? What is that?"
" This necklace was given to my mother, you dare not speak bad about it. Do not try it. And this dress? I love it. Let's go" I said.
The smile on my face had disappeared. I was already pissed.
I got into the car; we were not the only ones in the car; his driver and his assistant were there as well.
We went to this restaurant. It was big. The smile that had disappeared came back to my face.
I looked at it, it was big and beautiful.
It was not a place I would have dreamed of being at that point, because where would I get the money to pay for the food here?
We got out of the car.
He stood there and looked at me.
" I do not think that we should be here; we should get to the storehouse first for some clothes for you. This is not fit for this place; get back into the car," he said.
A frown appeared on my face. What was wrong with my dress? And why did he have to stress me this way?
We went to the storehouse where they sell lots of high-fashion dresses.
I got into the place. I had only heard of it, but I had never been here.
" Are you going to look forever? I do not have all day. You should pick something to wear", he said.
I wanted more time to look around the place, but I was not given one. The lady in the store began to bring out some clothes for me to wear.
I could see the way she kept her face, she seemed not to like me, and I do not know why, because I had not seen her before.
She would yell at me for something so little.
" You should take it easy on her" I heard Mason's voice.
" She is giving me a tough time," she said.
" That is a lie, I am not", I defended myself.
I do not know why she was being that way.
When I looked at her face and paid maximum attention to where her eyes went, She kept looking at Mason, then she would return those eyes to me. I do not know what her problem was with me being there, but it was something.
" Are you okay?" I asked her.
" Why?"
" You seem to be lost; you should do your job and focus on it rather than keeping those eyes on my man," I said.
It was the first time I had said that, and it felt so good to be saying that.
I saw how she looked at me; I bet she was not pleased to hear that, but who cares?
Mason made sure she gave me the best dresses and made her teach me how to fix each dress. It was a beautiful sight.
We left there with me wearing one of the dresses that he had paid for, even the new shoes.
He wanted me to remove the necklace, but I said no. I was ready to go back home if he refused me to wear it.
We got to the restaurant, and I marveled. I have not been to this particular one. I stood there waiting for him to pull the chair for me.
" You should sit," he said to me.
I raised my eyebrows at him.
" You are meant to pull out the chair for me to sit."
" Then you are probably going to stand there," he said.
I fumed, was he going to let me stand here for that long? Was he going to sit there and watch me stand while he ate? What kind of a man was he?
" Are you being serious right now? People are watching, and it is not right," I said.
He looked around him and saw the eyes that were all on him.
" Fine" he had a frown on his face.
He got up and pulled the seat for me. People were going to ask him if that was how he treated his girlfriend.
We began to eat. It was a good meal and I enjoyed it.
I wanted more, so I asked for more.
He watched me finish it and was surprised that I could finish it.
"What? Why are you looking at me that way?"
" I can not believe you ate this much." There was this surprised look on his face.
" I do not understand you. I have not been to this place before, and I have to enjoy this."
" Fine, but this is not going to be your last time here.
At least in the next four months, you are going to have food coming from here, and that is something," he said.
It was none of my business. I felt he would change his mind about me soon, so I had to enjoy all of things.
" I want takeaways," I said.
His eyes widened.
" What do you want that for?"
" To have food tomorrow and to give it to my friend as well. Do you have a problem with that?"
" I already told you that you would be coming here. You know what? Never mind" he said after I shot him a deadly glare.
He called the waiter and asked for three takeaways.
I was going to get one to Joy and even take three.
It was brought to me after it had been packaged. I took it and smiled at him. He was not happy with me but that did not bother me at all. I got what I wanted and that was all that mattered.
We left the restaurant and got into the car.
" Where are we going next?" I asked him.
" We are going to take pictures," he said.
We drove to this fancy place, it had beautiful flowers all around it. It was like the most beautiful place I have ever seen in a long time. I could not believe that we were there or that a place like that existed.
We were there till about two people came with their cameras.
" I'm ready to take pictures. It is a beautiful place" I said.
He did not say anything to me.
The guy who brought his camera came to us and asked us where to stand and how to stand.
Mason stood away from me. I was not close to him.
I did not care, all I wanted was to take pictures in this beautiful place.
" That is not what I want; you have to get closer to her, Sir. You have to hold her waist" he said.
Mason groaned. He did not want that, but he had to do that to make the world believe that we were together, and we had something beautiful going on.
He came to where I was and held my waist; I felt a strong sensation run through my body; how was I ever going to let this man touch me and not feel this way?
" Closer, please, and I want your eyes on her; I want to have a perfect shot," he said.
I blinked my eyes, what was this? I felt his breath on my shoulders; I almost freaked out.
I stood there, holding his hands and letting his body brush against mine.
The moment we were done, I let go of my hands and he did the same. He made it seem like he had been waiting for the moment to let me go, like he did not wish to have anything to do with me.
" Do I disgust you?" I asked him.
" Of course not. Why should I be holding you that way? You aren't my fiancee" he said.
I felt a bit sad, but it was the truth. What was I expecting? To become his fiancee for real?
That was never going to work.
I dropped by Joy's store. I asked him to keep me there. He frowned at me when I asked if he dropped me there.
" Why is that so?" He asked.
" I want to go see my friend, one of the food is for her," I said.
He seemed not to be satisfied with it, but it was none of my business.
I got out of the car and went into the store.
I watched as he drove away.
" Why do you keep looking at the car like that, you do not want him to leave?" I heard a voice behind me.
It. Was Joy.
" Don't be silly, I got you food, by the way." I stretched one of the plates of food in her face.
She gave me a questioning look.
"What is it?"
" Where did you get this from?"
" Can't you see the car that just left? I know you saw him inside; he got it for me. Too bad that you were not there with me; he took me to the fancy restaurant, and I took pity on you and brought you one." I gave it to her.
She took it from me and smiled. She opened it and saw what was inside. She gasped.
" This looks so good. Thank you" she said.
I got back to the house, I was with two more packs.
I had not even settled inside my house when I heard footsteps coming towards my room. I knew who it was. I got up and locked the door immediately.
I stood there as I heard her knock on the door.
" Open this door, Sophie. I know you are in there. Open this door now," Cecily yelled.
I was not going to listen to anything she wanted to say.
" You should leave; I do not want to see you," I said.
" I do not wish to see you either, I am only here to take what he gave to
you. The pictures are all over the media; I know he gave you some money," she said.
I rested my back on the door; I was tired, confused, and angry as well.
