CHAPTER 2
I around turned around to see two girls about my age entering the room. One with short blonde hair and the other with chocolate brown hair. These must be the people I’m to work with.
Not knowing what to do I stood still and watched them, waiting for them to notice me. The blonde one turned around and jumped three feet in the air letting out a squeak.
I don’t blame her for her reaction really, I probably look like a character from a horror movie with my dust covered appearance and the shopping bags under my eyes.
When she heard the squeak from her partner, the brunette whirls around to see what startled her friend.
With both their gazes on me I felt exposed, for some reason it felt like they could see right through me because of the of their gazes. We stood looking at each other for sometime before the blonde’s face broke into a huge smile.
“Hey, I’m Cierra and this is River, what’s your name?” Huh?
“Anastasia.”
“Well Anastasia, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’ve never met a human before so I really hope we can get along. Right Riv?” She asked elbowing the girl beside her.
Not what I was expecting. I was expecting her to dislike, maybe even hate me because of my species but if I was not mistaken she seemed to..... like me?
The girl beside her snapped out of her daze “Yes, nice to meet you Anastasia.”
“Anastasia is a bit of a mouthful, don’t you think?” Cierra asked, “I think I’m going to call you Ana, is that okay?”
“Yeah, I guess.”
Then River cleared her throat “We should start working now so we could finish in time for dinner.”
“Yeah, I’ve already started so it shouldn’t take much time again.”
And we started working. Thankfully they brought a music box so we weren’t enveloped in an awkward silence.
Hours later we were basically done with the cleaning and were just doing the finishing touches when the door opened again and we turned around to see another wolf, a female, it seemed like this one had a higher rank because Cierra and River bowed their necks in submission to her.
I’ve realised that the lower ranks do that in the presence of higher ranked wolves.
Not knowing what to do I followed suit and bowed my head too but I guess I was a little too slow to do so and the she wolf isn’t too pleased.
How do I know? Well apart from the glare she was throwing my way, the way she was looking at me like I’m the dirt beneath her shoe is a dead giveaway.
“Human,” does she really need to call me that? I’m well aware of my species and so is everybody in this room I’m sure. “What are you doing here?”
Dancing the monalisa with the duster, can’t you tell? Forcing my tongue not to say anything that might have put me in trouble I make myself sound meek rather than irritated when I said, “I am cleaning ma’am.”
You must be wondering why I always address them with such respect. Let’s just say, I was taught a lesson or two when I didn’t address them properly...
“You don’t say.” I had to fight even harder to stop myself from rolling my eyes this time. “You may leave, human your services here are not required here anymore.” Well obviously, we’re done with the work.
Instead of saying that I respectfully bowed and left the room. You see working with them for such a long time I’ve been able to pick up a few things, one of those things is that they are very proud creatures and absolutely love ass kissing.
So I have learnt to kiss as much ass as I can, at least enough to keep my head on my shoulders.
It was already time for dinner but I headed...to my room first to freshen up, I don’t want to give all those wolves that already have terrible opinions of me more reasons to look down on me.
Just as I finished freshening up I entered the room to find River and Cierra inside. Stopping at the door of the bathroom I stare at the two girls confused. Then Cierra sees me and speaks up.
“Hey Ana, we didn’t see you in the dinning hall so we thought we’d save you some food so you don’t go hungry.” It was then I noticed the food containers on the dresser and I felt my lips turn up in a smile.
“Thanks guys.” I quickly got dressed and pulled my hair into a low ponytail before I settled down to eat.
“Just so you know I didn’t know how much humans eat so I brought as much as possible.” She said and River snickered.
“Yeah right, you brought enough for both the of you.” She said rolling her eyes before looking at me and explaining, “She eats like a beast and is never satisfied, she used the excuse of bringing food for you to get more for herself.”
Cierra pouted dramatically and said, “Hey! Being a scout is tiring job okay? I have to keep myself well nourished you know!”
Raising an eyebrow at the dramatic blonde River said, “That’s your excuse?” She asked, “You’re going to have to do better than that you know.”
Unable to stop myself I laughed at their antics and dug into the food sighing in content. I had almost forgotten that I didn’t eat breakfast today. Soon enough Cierra joined me while River focused her attention on her book.
Minutes later Cierra and I are done with the food and were happily staring at the ceiling when we heard loud noises coming from the castle’s entrance.
“Seems like the special guest is finally here” Cierra says excited.
“Who is this special guest that the whole castle has been so busy for?” I wondered aloud.
Cierra looked at me like I had grown a second head while River actually stopped reading to give me a look. “What? Why are you guys looking at me like that?”
