Chapter 4 Don't Flatter Yourself

Catherine took a deep breath to steady herself. She had a hunch Henry was cheating, but seeing the proof made her stomach churn.

Five minutes later, Alison sent another screenshot. This one was from a month and a half ago.

Back then, they hadn't broken up yet; they were still in the throes of a passionate relationship.

The evidence was undeniable. Henry was definitely cheating on her.

If Henry had found someone new right after they broke up, she wouldn't have cared. But a month and a half ago, he was still telling her he loved her. And she had believed him.

Alison, worried Catherine might get too emotional, comforted her with a hug emoji: [Don't get too upset, take care of yourself.]

It was impossible not to be angry. Catherine decided not to rest and grabbed her bag, heading straight to the hospital.

By the time she got there, the doctors were almost off duty.

Manuel's office was already empty of patients, and he was organizing medical records, getting ready to leave.

Catherine opened the photo and tossed her phone onto Manuel's desk. "Dr. Green, how many women has Henry been seeing on the side?"

Her sudden action seemed to annoy Manuel. He looked up at her with displeasure, then glanced at the photo on the phone.

"I don't know her." He then looked away and continued organizing his materials. His simple sentence was full of indifference.

Henry's friends all knew he had more than one woman on the side.

Even if Henry's private life was a mess, Manuel wouldn't say a word because they were cousins.

"Do you really not know?" Catherine didn't believe him. She stepped closer, her large eyes glinting with determination.

Manuel suddenly became impatient. "What does your private life have to do with me?"

As soon as he finished speaking, a young nurse came in and took the materials from Manuel's hands.

As she left, she gave Catherine a look, clearly having overheard the conversation, her eyes filled with disdain.

Catherine was once again left speechless by his retort. Indeed, it had nothing to do with him, so she didn't press further.

"Sorry to bother you." She pursed her lips and left the office with long strides.

After leaving the hospital, Catherine took a cab straight to Henry's house.

It took two minutes of knocking before Henry finally opened the door. Seeing Catherine, a flash of surprise crossed Henry's eyes.

"What are you doing here?" He instinctively closed the door slightly, only showing his head.

"Feeling guilty?" Catherine forcefully pulled open the door he was guarding.

He was shirtless, wearing only shorts, his face slightly flushed. Catherine immediately understood what he had been doing.

Seeing that there was no point in hiding, Henry leaned against the wall with a wicked smile, half-hugging his arms, his narrow eyes slightly squinting as he stared at her playfully. "Haven't we broken up? Can't let go of me, regretting it?"

"Don't flatter yourself." Catherine took a step forward. "How many women are hiding inside?"

Henry stepped forward, blocking her at the door. "It has nothing to do with you." His tone was already tinged with the impatience of being disturbed.

Catherine, already holding back her anger, lowered her voice. "Did you mess around with other women while we were dating?"

Seeing Catherine so furious, Henry seemed to get some twisted sense of satisfaction. "Are you jealous? So what if there were other women? I've never seen a relationship where you can't fuck..."

Before he could finish, Catherine slapped him hard across the face. "That's for cheating on me while we were together."

Henry was momentarily stunned; Catherine had always been gentle and soft-spoken. He never expected her to slap him.

"Fuck!" Henry spat to the side, fuming. "What are you pretending to be pure for? You never slept with me while we were together; you expect me to go without sex?"

"I spent so much effort to bankrupt your useless dad to get you; what a waste of time. If I had known..." Henry stopped mid-sentence, realizing what he had just revealed.

Catherine's mind felt like it had been struck by lightning. The amount of information was overwhelming.

"What did you say?" Catherine's face turned frighteningly pale.

At this point, Henry decided not to hide anything. He laughed, slyly saying, "You were so hard to get. If it weren't for your dad's incident, do you think you'd have had the chance to enjoy a good life with me? You should be thanking me."

Henry had pursued her for a while without success. Then, her family faced a huge crisis. Her father, Clifford Powell, couldn't accept that his life's work was ruined and had a stroke, ending up in the hospital.

The company's bankruptcy and Clifford's exorbitant medical bills destroyed the Powell family.

Their so-called friends avoided the Powell family, fearing they'd ask for money.

Only Henry "selflessly" helped Catherine pay off most of the debts and covered Clifford's medical expenses.

Back then, Catherine, overwhelmed with gratitude and feeling indebted, found herself unable to refuse his pursuit.

"Henry, you bastard!" Catherine's shoulders trembled slightly, her hands clenched at her sides.

"You're just a powerless woman with no money. What can you do to me?" Henry's tone was full of provocation.

He knew the Powell family's situation better than anyone and didn't care about her at all.

Moreover, the Green family was a business giant in Emerald City, navigating both the underworld and authorities with ease. Almost no one dared to offend them.

Catherine no longer had the heart to listen. She grabbed a tissue box from the shoe cabinet and threw it at him. Her eyes burned with unshed tears as she turned on her heel and stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind her.

When she returned home, she saw Alison sitting on her couch, looking worried.

Hearing the door open, Alison jumped up from the couch. "Where have you been? I texted and called, but you didn't respond. I was afraid you'd do something stupid, so I came to check on you."

When Catherine moved into this house, she had given Alison the door code.

"I'm fine." Catherine tiredly hung her clothes on the rack.

"How did you get hurt?" Alison, sharp-eyed, noticed the injuries on her body and the conspicuous bloodstains on her clothes. "Who did you offend to get beaten up like this?"

Catherine, dazed, wandered to the couch. "It's not my blood." She then explained everything to Alison.

After hearing it all, Alison sighed, "What do you plan to do next?"

Catherine said, "Make him pay."

"You want him in jail?" Alison's mouth dropped open, her tone incredulous. "The Green family's influence here is overwhelming. Taking him down will be incredibly difficult."
