Chapter 3

Emily chuckled. "Wow, you're full of yourself. Take a good look in the mirror and tell me, what exactly do you think is worth me holding onto? I'm not into guys who cheat."

John was pissed but didn't let Emily's words get to him. He knew she had a crush on him since they were kids. Now she was just playing hard to get, acting like she didn't care.

John said coolly, "Congrats. Hayden wants me to bring you back."

Emily didn't want to go back, but Hayden had always been good to her, treating her like his own granddaughter. Even though she was in her twenties now, Hayden still saw her as the little girl he doted on. He always thought of her first when it came to good things.

In the end, Emily and John got in the car heading back to the Williams Mansion, and John made sure to keep his distance from her.

Emily didn't mind. On the way back, she even picked up some of Hayden's favorite snacks.

As soon as she walked into the Williams Mansion, she heard Hayden's angry voice coming from the living room. "Do you have any idea how much gossip and rumors Emily has had to put up with these past three years? Do you know what people are saying behind her back?"

John stood tall, his voice cold. "If she can't handle it anymore, she can always choose to divorce."

Hayden was about to blow a gasket.

Emily pushed the door open and called out, "Hayden." She walked right past John and took Hayden's arm affectionately. "Don't get mad. The doctor said your blood pressure had been high lately."

Hayden patted Emily's hand, a hint of guilt in his eyes. "It's John's fault for being unfaithful. I'm sorry, Emily."

Tears welled up in Emily's eyes. Compared to Aiden and Mia, Hayden felt more like family to her.

Hayden looked at John again and said firmly, "I only recognize Emily as your wife, John. As for any other women, don't even think about bringing them into the Williams Mansion!"

John's expression darkened. But before he could say anything, Hayden waved his hand dismissively. "I know about Veda being pregnant, but that illegitimate child will only bring trouble. If you have any conscience left, tell Veda to get an abortion as soon as possible!"

Hayden didn't know that Veda had already had a miscarriage, but his tone left no room for negotiation.

John called out, "Grandpa!"

John gritted his teeth and glared at Emily. "This is what you wanted, right?"

Emily had acted all noble before, but now she was using Grandpa Hayden to put pressure on him! After three years apart, she had gotten a lot more cunning!

From the moment Emily walked in until now, her gaze finally settled on John.

John had wanted to accuse Emily of playing dirty tricks, but when he met her calm and indifferent eyes, he suddenly couldn't say a word.

"It's okay, Hayden."

Emily stopped Hayden without any emotion. "Since Mr. John Williams is so set on divorcing, I shouldn't stand in the way. Of course, I should help him get what he wants."

John stiffened, noticing the change in Emily's attitude and the way she addressed him.

When Emily first came back to the Johnson family, she was always timid, calling him John Williams in a soft voice. Later, as she grew up and Hayden arranged their marriage, Emily started calling him John. Every time she said his name, it was like she was holding something precious.

Suppressing his sudden irritation, he said, "You know Hayden won't let me divorce you, so you're just saying this to mess with me!"

Emily rolled her eyes, not even trying to hide it.

She shot back, "Wow, you're really full of yourself. Seems like the only thing you've gotten better at over the years is boosting your own ego."

John's face darkened. Emily had never talked to him like this before.

He was about to retort when Hayden cut in.

Hayden spoke slowly, "Divorce is fine. But in these three years, Emily has suffered a lot because of your nonsense. If you divorce, the shares of the Williams Group under your name will go to Emily."

John was stunned and furious. "Grandpa Hayden !"

Before he could say more, his phone buzzed. It was a call from the hospital.

The caregiver's voice was frantic. "Mr. John Williams, something's wrong! Ms. Veda found out she lost her baby and is extremely upset. She's threatening to jump off the building. You need to come quickly!"

John's face went pale. He hung up and turned to leave.

Hayden didn't catch the details of the call, but he could guess it was about Veda from John's reaction.

His face turned red with anger, and he slammed his cane on the floor. "Stop right there!"

John paused but didn't turn around. "Hayden, Veda needs me. And I'm set on the divorce. I'll come back to apologize after I handle this."

With that, he stormed out.

Hayden was fuming, breathing heavily. Emily quickly helped him sit down and brought him some honey water to calm him.

Hayden asked, "Emily, have you really thought this through?"

Once Hayden calmed down, his voice was full of concern. "If it's because of Veda, don't worry. As long as I'm here, she won't cause any trouble."

Emily smiled and patted Hayden's back. "It's not about Veda. It's about John not having feelings for me. There's no point in holding on and becoming a joke."

Hayden knew Emily had made up her mind. He sighed deeply, his shoulders slumping. "My Williams family has wronged you!"

"Not at all. I'm truly grateful for your care and love. Even if John and I were to divorce, you'll always be my grandfather."

Emily smiled brightly, acting like everything was fine. "Don't worry; I'll be okay."

After comforting Hayden and having dinner with him, Emily left the Williams Mansion. As soon as she started the car, her phone rang. It was Mia Mother.

Emily looked at the screen with a hint of irony. It had to be about Veda.

It was laughable. Emily had been married to John for three years, and Mia had never called her once. Now Mia was calling to blame her for Veda.

Emily answered the call casually.

Mia's angry voice came through immediately. "Emily! How could I have raised such an ungrateful person like you? You used such dirty tricks to hurt Veda! The doctor said Veda injured her uterus and might never get pregnant again!"

Emily leaned back in the driver's seat, her expression calm. "That's good."

Mia was stunned for a moment, then exploded. "What did you say?"

Emily replied with a hint of sarcasm, "I said it's good. With the way Veda behaves, if she had a kid, it would probably inherit her deceitful and hypocritical nature. "

“Isn't that right, my good mother?”
