Chapter 12 Assembling Furniture for Howard

Howard suddenly shouted, "Cut ties with them! Make them pay the breach of contract penalty! A company without integrity doesn't deserve to work with us!"

I had no idea why Howard was so mad, but with so many people around, I didn't dare to ask.

I just followed Felicity out of his office.

Felicity walked me to the door and handed me her phone. "You seem very capable, and I'm looking forward to working with you. Let's add each other on Facebook, and I'll send you the money for the air conditioning installation now."

I wanted to refuse, but Felicity spoke up first, "You have to accept it, or Mr. Wilson will get angry, and then I'll be in trouble. Please!"

In the end, I took the money. After all, I was broke and needed it.

Over the next few days, while waiting for any updates, I stayed home, tidying up and organizing Tammy's things.

Looking at Tammy's smile in the photos made my heart ache. The thought that I'd never see her again brought tears to my eyes.

Just as I was feeling down, I got a message from Howard on Facebook.

Howard: [Come to the office.]

For some reason, when I got Howard's message, I couldn't help but remember his furrowed brows and the anger in his eyes from that day. But I still got up and went to the company.

Since it was nighttime, only the hallway lights were on in the office building. Howard must have told the security guard I was coming because he didn't stop me.

I took the elevator to the top floor and easily found Howard's office. But as soon as I opened the door, I was stunned. "Mr. Wilson, is your office being demolished?"

Howard glared at me. "Stop joking around! Come and help!"

I looked around the office. Everything was new, all the furniture, and it looked like it needed to be assembled.

I couldn't help but frown. How long would it take to put all this together?

Sensing my hesitation, Howard spoke calmly, "I'll pay you three times the installation fee once it's done."

A smile instantly spread across my face. "Alright, Mr. Wilson!"

Luckily, the furniture assembly was pretty simple, just shelves in the fridge and horizontal supports on the bookcase. Anyone with tools could do it.

I'd always enjoyed working with my hands, so this wasn't hard for me. Before long, I had assembled all the furniture.

Looking at the room full of assembled items, I felt a sense of pride.

Howard said to me, "Here, have some milk."

I looked down to see Howard's well-defined hand holding a glass of milk.

After working for so long, I was indeed a bit thirsty. I took the glass and, after taking a sip, my eyes widened in surprise. "It's sweet!"

Howard nodded, his tone indifferent, "Yeah, I added some sugar in case that you faint from low blood sugar again. If you fainted, I'd really be seen as the epitome of cruelty."

I sipped the milk slowly, my gaze sneaking over to Howard. I could never figure him out. He claimed he didn't want to be associated with me, yet he kept helping me.

Even Joseph, who had been with me for so many years, couldn't remember my low blood sugar issue, but Howard, who had only met me a few times, did.

Howard suddenly said, "If you want to look, just look openly. Why sneak around?"

My face instantly turned red. It was really embarrassing. I got caught staring!
