Chapter 12
Kimberly's lips curled into a self-deprecating smile, "Thank you, Mr. Watson, for your kindness. It seems I still have some value."
With that, she left the lounge.
The large lounge fell silent. Vincent took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, skillfully pulled one out, lit it, and took a deep drag, exhaling a long stream of smoke.
As if he had thought of something, he picked up his phone.
"Check the banquet hall and the kitchen to see if anyone is trying to drug Kimberly."
The midnight chime rang, but the banquet hall was still bustling with people. Kimberly stood in place, looking around for Maya but couldn't find her. Instead, she became the object of admiration for many.
Over the years, Kimberly had seen countless such gazes. Over time, she had grown sick of it, feeling a physical and physiological discomfort.
"Her dress looks so familiar."
"I couldn't find her earlier, how did she come out from the backstage?"
After leaving Kimberly among the group of men, Maya went to chat with the wealthy wives among the elite. In the past, she wouldn't have had the qualifications or confidence, but now, with the invitation and Kimberly's status, even Maya felt a bit superior.
"Isn't this Maya? It's been a long time since I last saw you. I didn't expect to see you here today, what a surprise."
Hearing this, Maya sneered inwardly but proudly raised her head, "It's all thanks to Kimberly's status. If it weren't for her relationship with Mr. Watson, I wouldn't have been able to get in."
On the surface, it sounded like a normal conversation, but Maya was actually flaunting her status.
A wealthy wife said coldly, "I thought Mr. Watson couldn't let go of his first love. It seems the rumors about Mr. Watson being devoted aren't very convincing."
Maya was puzzled, "What first love? I've never heard of it."
"How would you know about the things in our circle?" The wealthy wife's eyes were full of disdain and contempt.
Maya's face instantly darkened, but she forced a smile, "Yes, but I think I'll be seeing you all more often soon."
The meaning of this statement was clear. Anyone who didn't understand it would be a fool, but no one dared to really confront Maya. After all, Kimberly's relationship with Vincent was quite special, and no one wanted to offend her easily.
"That first love was Mr. Watson's most beloved person back then. Mr. Watson had announced his fiancée to the entire Emerald City. But I heard that the first love used to work in a bar. But that's just what I heard, don't sell me out. Even so, Mr. Watson was very obsessed with her. Anyone who dared to say anything bad about her would be in big trouble."
Hearing this, Maya shrugged, "If it was true love, would he still have relationships with other women?"
This statement left the wealthy wives speechless. Although Maya's words were crude, they were true.
"Even so, the first love was the only one. Even if there were countless lovers later, no one could replace the first love."
Another person said, "But it seems they often broke up and got back together. Entertainment reporters frequently caught their gossip and reported it widely. But we haven't heard anything in recent years, so it seems they broke up for good."
"I don't think it's that easy to break up completely. But Maya, you should remind Kimberly to treat Mr. Watson well. Otherwise, if that first love comes back, she won't stand a chance."
"I suddenly remembered, I heard she was coming back recently. She went to Novaria before, right?"
Everyone started discussing Vincent and that woman.
Maya didn't care. She thought these people were just trying to teach her a lesson and weaken her momentum. In Maya's eyes, no matter how good a man was, he was just seeking novelty. Once the novelty was gone, no woman could hold him.
Even Kimberly, whom Maya had carefully cultivated for so many years, might not be able to do it.
No matter what, it was all in the past. Even if she came back, so what?
Gradually, as a beauty appeared in their sight, the discussions slowly stopped.
Kimberly was walking towards them, her graceful figure and stunning beauty drawing gasps and admiration from everyone. Even women of different ages found her breathtaking and couldn't take their eyes off her.
Some sharp-eyed people recognized the coat Kimberly was wearing. Everyone's eyes showed confusion and surprise. No one didn't know it was Vincent's coat.
Maya's face showed a satisfied smile, full of pride. No matter how beautiful or excellent other women were, could they be better than the Kimberly she had carefully cultivated?
This was the rose she had nurtured, a magnificent rose.
Kimberly habitually greeted everyone politely. This was a courtesy Maya had strongly insisted on long ago. She said that in the wealthy circles, whether you knew them or not, you had to greet them to avoid being criticized for being impolite behind your back.
Originally, the wealthy wives thought Kimberly was just a passing fancy for Vincent. But now, it seemed Kimberly was quite special to Vincent.
So, they immediately changed their attitude and invited Kimberly to sit down.
Kimberly had attended such occasions with Maya since she was young and had seen many such scenes. So, she was at ease communicating with these wealthy wives.
At midnight, as the banquet was coming to an end, everyone started to leave. Kimberly instinctively scanned the room but didn't see Vincent. It seemed he had left early.
In the car on the way back, Kimberly conveyed Vincent's words truthfully.
"He only said this. If you need anything, you should contact him directly. He also warned me, so Maya, if you don't want the Watson Family to trouble the Knight Family, you should handle some things yourself."
Kimberly said this deliberately, fearing Maya would scold her.
Maya didn't care at all about Kimberly's reminder. She leisurely reclined in her seat, looking relaxed, "You really made me proud tonight. You have no idea how those wealthy wives looked at me when I appeared. It pissed me off, but luckily I had you."
It was clear that Maya had once again used her relationship with Vincent to show off.
Thinking of this, a trace of barely noticeable disgust flashed in Kimberly's eyes. She spoke, "Maya, Mr. Watson also warned me tonight. He doesn't want to hear you flaunting your relationship with him and me anymore. Otherwise, you'll bear the consequences."
Hearing this, Maya raised an eyebrow and waved her hand, "Got it, got it."
Kimberly fell silent, coldly glanced at Maya, then turned her gaze to the window.
