Chapter 5
Late
Ruby lay on the bed, enjoying her quiet sleep. One that she hadn't gotten for weeks as she was running away looking for how to pay for her sister's treatment.
Now that she found a way to save her and finally did, it was only right for her to get a good sleep.
She groaned, rolling on her medium-sized bed as she stretched out her hands yawning loudly.
“So peaceful..” she muttered, reaching out her hand for her phone that was lying on a nearby cupboard.
She turned on the power button to check what the time was only to see a message on her screen.
“I'll be at your place in thirty minutes, don't keep me waiting!” That was the exact message on her phone.
She blinked her eyes as she tossed the phone away, wanting to return to sleep.
A few minutes later, she snapped her eyes open as realization hit her.
“Oh my gosh!!” She gasped as she sat up from the bed almost immediately.
“I forgot about this..” she gasped jumping out of the bed the next second. She had a date with Jaxon and the text was from him. She only had thirty minutes to get ready.
“Damn, damm, when did I fall asleep..” she asked herself as she rushed into the bathroom, undressing as she reached out for a toothbrush.
“Damn it!” She cursed on realizing that she was out of toothpaste, she literally forgot earlier, because she would have gotten one on her way back from work.
“I have to visit the grocery store..” she muttered to herself, as she decided to do that the next day.
She pulled off her clothes in a hurry and turned on the shower to have a quick bath, she rinsed her mouth thoroughly before dashing out of her bathroom.
She rushed to her phone to check the time.
“I have just twenty minutes left..” she said, her eyes searching for the dress that Jaxon got her.
Then she realized that she dumped it in the sitting room earlier.
“Seriously?” She groaned running to the sitting room to get the bags.
At that moment, Ruby felt like she was faster than the flash himself, cause she didn't even understand how fast she wore the dress.
She went back to her room and stood in front of the mirror, she immediately began to regret why she poured water on her hair, how was she going to dry it?
She picked up the air dryer and began to blow dry her hair.
She did everything so swiftly from drying to her to applying body lotion to her legs and hands and then light makeup.
“Perfecta!” Ruby exclaimed in relief she was ready, her black wavy hair hung loosely on her waist and the dress fitted her perfectly, she looked simple but then pretty.
Just when she finished putting on her shoes, her phone rang, she knew it was Jaxon.
“Hel..”
“Why didn't you reply to the text I sent for you??” He yelled at the other side of the phone, not even giving her a chance to speak.
“I..I…” Ruby stammered, he was really going to be hard to deal with.
“Save your flimsy excuses for later. I'm outside your apartment..” he informed as she wondered how he knew her location. But then she remembered that he placed a tracking device on her phone.
That was an invasion of privacy, who did he think he was?
“I'm coming,” she said but he disconnected the call afterwards.
She signed, picking up her purse as she headed out of the house. She switched off the lights before stepping out.
She placed the keys to her house inside her purse as she lifted her gaze to see a black car parked in front of her place.
She knew it was Jaxon. She immediately walked over to the car.
She gasped in awe, wondering how rich Jaxon was that he could afford a Rolls Royce Drop tail, she couldn't even imagine herself entering a car as expensive as that.
“Good evening..” she flashed a smile at the driver as she allegedly got into the front seat. She knew Jaxon was at the back as she had caught a glimpse of him.
The driver only nodded at her, he was about to start the car when Jaxon spoke.
“Move to the back..” his voice was cold and icy and was directed to Ruby herself.
“No thanks. I'm comfortable here..” she politely refused and the driver glanced her her briefly in surprise.
She actually refused the boss himself.
“I don't repeat myself, move to the back, Ruth…” he ordered sounding impatient.
“My name is Ruby..” She gritted her teeth in annoyance. What was so hard there for him to remember?
“That's your business, I'm waiting..” Ruby clenched her fist as she reluctantly got out of the car and went to the back seat.
She made sure to avoid eye contact with him as she sat so close to the window avoiding him like a plague.
Jaxon stared at her, from head to toe. She had the face card because she was extremely gorgeous. That was the first time he admitted to himself that a lady looked good.
“Hmm, hmm..” Ruby cleared her throat uncomfortably, she didn't like the feel of his eyes on her.
“I don't like being stared at. Kindly look away.” She said, accidentally lifting her gaze to meet his.
Her ocean eyes met his blue eyes as he scoffed.
“The first time we met, you were an eyesore, just making sure you looked presentable and not like a grandma!” He fired at her, his words hurting Ruby.
She bit her lips hard to stop herself from saying something mean to him.
“Drive..” he said to the driver who finally started the car.
Jaxon brought out his iPad to work on while Ruby just stared outside the window, as the driver drove to their destination.
“100 days, it's just 100 days..” she kept murmuring to herself throughout the whole ride.
