Chapter 5: The Mother's Illness
At another hospital.
Ava looked at the DNA test report, which indeed stated that Ava's DNA matched with the Jane couple's at 99.99%.
Ava examined the Jane couple closely again. Reluctantly, she had to admit that she resembled them in some ways but not in others.
This was a difficult situation. Could she really be their daughter?
"Lily, come home with us today, and we'll introduce you to your brother. He misses you too," Jack said with a fawn smile, looking very affectionate.
Seeing this, Ava spoke honestly, "Although I don't know why you abandoned me in the first place, or why you've suddenly reappeared to claim me now, there's one thing: my mom and dad have been very good to me. I consider them my biological parents. Now my mom is sick and needs surgery, and I need to be by her side to take care of her. There's also the high cost of the surgery that I need to raise. So even though I am your daughter, I really don't have time to be with you now; I have too much to do."
As soon as she finished speaking, Jane's eyes widened suddenly, and her tone revealed a hint of excitement,
"Lily, what did you just say, your mom is sick, and you need money, right?"
Ava nodded, unsure of what Jane was driving at.
"My dear daughter, why didn't you tell mom and dad that you need money? Your adoptive mother has taken care of you for over twenty years. Now that she's sick, we should help her. How much money do you need?"
Ava looked at them in disbelief. She couldn't believe they were offering help so readily. Could this couple actually have a conscience?
"It costs..." Ava really spoke up, and she did indeed need the money, "Three hundred thousand. My mom has a pituitary adenoma and needs surgery as soon as possible."
"Three hundred thousand..." Jane looked troubled, "Lily, that's not a small sum."
However, it should be known that ever since Jane and Jack sold a few properties a decade ago, they were far from short on money. They were minor celebrities in the local area, known for their wealth. Three hundred thousand was but a drop in the ocean for them.
"Lily, will you come home with us first? Let's see your brother and discuss this matter slowly. After all, it's not a small amount of money, and your mother and I haven't saved much over the years." Jack's tone was also filled with sincerity.
With that said, Ava had no reason not to go back with them. After all, she was their biological daughter. But what kind of person would the brother they always mentioned be? The couple always brought up her so-called brother, sometimes intentionally, sometimes unintentionally.
Ava got into the car with Jack and Jane, and the car started, heading towards an upscale residential area in London.
The Jack couple lived in a townhouse complex. Ava looked up, marveling at the luxury of the buildings. Although it couldn't compare to Ben's manor, the fact that Jack and Jane could afford such a house indicated that they were not short on money.
Could it be that the couple had a change of heart after their financial situation improved and wanted to find their daughter?
"Come in quickly, Lily, this is your home!"
Seeing Ava standing awkwardly at the door, Jane took the initiative to pull her daughter in and immediately locked the door behind her.
Unsuspectingly, Ava changed her shoes and followed the couple up to the third floor. When they reached the innermost room, Jane opened the door.
The room was dimly lit. Jane turned on the light, and Ava then saw a man lying on a large bed, connected to medical equipment, with his eyes closed, and a nurse standing beside the bed.
What is this...
At that moment, a heavy sound came from behind, and the door to the room was slammed shut.
Ava realized something was amiss and instinctively took a step back, "What do you want to do?"
Jack stood by the man's bed and looked at her, his eyes still affectionate, "Lily, don't be afraid. This is your brother. His name is Max. He is sick now. Come over and see him."
Ava did not approach and said to the couple, "What do you really want? Just tell me straight out, don't beat around the bush."
Jack was about to say something more persuasive when Jane laughed and stopped him.
"Since that's the case, we won't hide it from you anymore."
A sly expression appeared on Jane's face, "Lily, you have to save your brother."
"I don't understand what you mean."
"Max is sick and needs a bone marrow transplant. Just consider that he is your brother and get tested to see if you can save him. Mom and Dad promise we will never abandon you again. Once your brother gets better, the four of us will live happily together."
Ava was stunned into silence, unable to utter a word.
Could such a melodramatic and bizarre thing actually happen to her?
"So, Lily, are you willing to save your brother?"
