Chapter 5

“Ivanna, are you awake?” Fiona asked as she bit her lower lip while continuing to knock at Ivanna’s door.

Ivanna who was still sleeping was awoke by her sudden banging and frowned.

“What?” she shouted angrily and coldly stunning Fiona as she couldn’t understand why Ivanna had changed completely after waking up.

She glanced at her wristwatch and felt that her thoughts were right as by this time, Ivanna would have already been awake and tried pleasing her family by preparing breakfast for them so that they couldn’t throw her out.

This made the maids get used to her behavior and completely let the work to her.

However, everyone was downstairs. They had waited for Ivanna to bring out the breakfast or call them but she didn’t making them frown. Upon asking, they were told that she was still asleep which infatuated them.

“Mom asks you to go and prepare breakfast,” Fiona said thinking that since Ivanna didn’t have any other choice, she would immediately listen to her and do as told.

“Am I a maid?” Ivanna asked sharply as she sneered remembering everything she had done to curry favor with the Bakers. However, instead of feeling that she was sincere, they took advantage of her and treated her like a maid instead before disregarding her to her ‘biological parents’.

“Fiona was stunned as she didn’t believe that she had heard the right thing and thought that her ears were playing on her. She waited for the latter to exit her bedroom but then, she realized that she was still and wasn’t good enough to make breakfast for them.

She was angry as she wanted to show everyone that Ivanna could do anything by cooking for them. However, thinking that she had been ruined once more, she couldn’t help but look at the door sternly and murderly before turning around and walking away.

Hearing the footsteps fading, Ivanna sneered as she remembered that he had woken up early to prepare breakfast for them on this day, even making Fiona’s favorite cake. But the photos and videos of her cooking were projected at the birthday making everyone look at her with disgust claiming that she would rather be a maid than go back to poverty.

Thinking of all these, her eyes flickered as she swore to pay Fiona for all the humiliation she had caused her tenfolds.

“Why is your sister?” Mr Baker asked with a frown immediately he saw Fiona walking alone.

“Sister…she …she said…” Fiona said as she stammered before lowering her head as if she didn’t want to tell them what Ivanna had said.

“Why do you continue protecting her like that? Does she see you as a sister like you do or an enemy?” Mrs Baker asked clearly displeased with her daughter defending Ivanna.

“But she is still our family’s daughter. She is my sister and sisters should always be there for each other,” Fiona said as she looked stubborn making Mr Baker sigh.

Thinking of his two daughters, one was meek, kind, and soft while the other was only stubborn and arrogant doing what she wanted.

“If she doesn’t want to come down and prepare breakfast then let her be. What do we pay the maids for in the first place? I will be heading off to whether everything is organized well,” he said before standing up to leave as he didn’t want to be involved in the quarrel anymore. After all, on one side was his biological daughter, and on the other the daughter he had raised for seventeen years.

Fiona looked at her father's departing figure as a wave of hatred surged in her heart as she understood that her father still regarded Ivanna as one of them which to her was a threat.

“Dear, don’t worry about that woman. Let her be. Go get ready and we will leave immediately,” Mrs Bakers said softly as looked at her daughter.

“Leave? Where are we going this time? Also, we haven’t eaten anything,” Fiona asked as she looked at her mother hoping that she would make Ivanna descend and go to the kitchen. However, she was doomed to be disappointed.

“Let her starve to death. Go get ready, we will eat outside before going to the spa then get prepared. I asked the manager of the boutique and she agreed that you can get ready there as their makeup artists doll you up,” Mrs Baker said surprising Fiona.

She had heard from her classmates that those artists were professional and for one to be dolled up by them was a great honor. She didn’t imagine that after mentioning the latter to her mother, she would make sure she got it.

The hatred and anger that had surged dispatched immediately as she thought that Ivanna wasn’t worth her time anymore.

“Okay Mom,” she said before rushing upstairs as she couldn’t wait to take some pictures with the makeup artists and post them on her pages.

Ivanna was preparing herself in the room intending to leave as soon as they left as she understood that she had woken up too late while the party would be starting at two in the afternoon.

Immediately she heard the sound of the car leaving, she jumped from her bed and put her phone in her jeans pocket since she didn’t need anything else as Abby had told her that she would take care of everything else that was needed.

She went to the garage to pick up one of the cars and drive so as not to be late.

“I am sorry miss but madam instructed that you aren’t allowed to drive any car,” a man stood in front of her just as she was about to choose the car keys.

“Will you be taking me there then?” she asked curiously but all she saw was disdain in the man’s eyes.

“I am sorry but am busy. If you want to go out then you can use a taxi,” the man replied coldly before leaving.

Ivanna shrugged not minding his attitude and walked towards the gate as she was sure she would find a taxi by the road after exiting the estate.

After thirty minutes, she arrived at the mall and walked straight to the boutique.

“You are here,” one of the shop attendants said with a smile when she saw Ivanna.

Ivanna greeted her and smiled before walking into the inner part of the shop.

“Seems like you just woke up, huh?” Alexa, the makeup artist assigned to her by Abby said when she saw her sleepy look.

Ivanna nodded before lying on the couch.

“Girl, it's already ten thirty and we will at least need three to four hours to get you ready. You can’t be lazy,” Alexa said shocking Ivanna.

“It's just a simple make-up, no need for four hours!” Ivanna said as he felt like crying wishing she had not agreed to come here in the first place.

“The boss said that it's your only turning of age and you need to be stunning. If you haven’t eaten anything then you don’t need to worry as you can eat while you are been massaged, she reorganized the next room so that it could be your spa room and even employed the best spa professional in the city. Come, don’t make me drag you.

With no other choice, Ivanna stood up and followed her out of the room.

Although it ended up taking up four hours as Alexa had said, they had let her first eat afraid of suffering Abby’s wrath if she were to know.

“The car is waiting for you downstairs. You are already late to the party by thirty minutes, luckily, the venue is just cross by,” Alexa said as she carried the bag for Ivanna as they walked out of the shop.

“A limousine?” she asked in a shocked expression looking at the car in front of her.

“Right, there are snacks inside that you can eat if you are hungry young miss,” a man in a black suit said as he opened the door for her.

“Where is that girl? How can she be late? Does she think that this is her party?” Mrs Bakers asked angrily when they didn’t see Ivanna after Fiona walked in front of everyone.

Fiona bit her lower lip but her eyes were smiling thinking that Ivanna had gotten stranded since her mother had prevented her from using any of the cars.

“Mom, maybe she is stuck in traffic. She will be here soon,” she said humbly causing Mrs Baker to glare at her in dissatisfaction not pleased by her defending Ivanna even at the moment.

“Sorry, I am late,” they heard a soft voice at the entrance causing everyone to turn around and see who was the shameless person.
