Chapter 6
Amelia
The second Damien's eyes met mine, I felt a very uncomfortable pull. No, no, no. It couldn't be.
“Are you okay?” Kaiden asked in a worried tone.
“Yeah.” I said with a quiet nod.
“Let's go.” He said.
I couldn't coddle any happy feelings towards my enemy. Damien was my enemy and I would make sure he suffers a fate worse than death.
Luna Bella was kind enough to provide separate rooms for Kaiden and I.
As I settled in, I heard a short knock on the door.
“Yes?” I called out.
“Dinner is ready, my lady.” came the quiet voice of a maid.
“I'll be down in a moment.” I said, turning to my reflection in the mirror. Dinner was going to be forks and knives.
After dressing in a red dress and covering my face with a veil, I was ready to go.
I made my way through the dimly lit hall, the candles casting a dim light over the paved halls. Something definitely needed to be done with the lighting of this place. It was creepy.
“I was thinking the same thing too.” Kaiden said behind me.
I laughed and turned around to meet him. “Well, the North had better lighting.”
Kaiden looked down at his thin white shirt. “But hey, I'm looking fly in this. No more long coats.”
“Let's just go.” I laughed and hooked arms with him.
We made our way to the double doors and opened it at the same time.
The long dinner table was set and filled with the most sumptuous foods I have ever seen. Isn't that meant for a feast? The Alpha King was dying.
“Oh, dear. You look stunning in red.” Luna Bella said in a voice that told me she had been terrified. No one looked red from head to toe.
“Thank you.” I said with a nod.
“It's weird but why do you hide your face?” Freya asked with a frown.
I rolled my eyes at her and nearly said : “That’s because I don't want to see a cow like you.”
Instead I rolled my eyes and sank into the chair Kaiden pulled out for me.
Damien entered the room in a regal black attire. He looked really sexy in it.
“Babe, you're here.” Freya said in a chirpy voice and ran to meet him.
“Hey, darling.” He laced his fingers with hers and they shared a kiss.
Never had I felt this much rage in my life before.
Kaiden must've felt it because he placed his hand on my lap and gave it a light pat as if it would quell my brewing anger.
He leaned in and whispered behind my ear. “Hold it in for the rest of dinner. You don't want to make a scene, do you?”
“Fine.” I exhaled softly and reached for a glass of water. Hopefully that will cool me down.
Like a hawk, I cautiously watched Freya pull Damien to their seats — His at the head of the table and hers right beside his.
“Let's begin, shall we?” Damien smiled.
The maids standing behind us stepped forward to lift the lids of our plates. Dinner was not forks and knives as I had hoped but a nice potato dish served with sauce. The aroma filled my nose with its bliss and my mouth watered. Despite the incredible aroma wafting in the air, I still had suspicions.
I leaned back, my eyes darted to the faces of the people seated with us. I waited for them to take the first bite and swallow. When I saw nothing happened to them, I gave Kaiden the signal and we dug in. Call it a bad habit but these people were terrible. I had warned Kaiden on time.
We exchanged subtle looks before digging into our food.
As we ate dinner, Lady Bella sparked off a conversation about Freya and Damien getting married soon and how their future children would be beautiful. I nearly threw up out of cringe.
I reached for another wine glass and she changed the subject of the conversation to me.
“I hope you don't mind me asking, Miss healer,” she sat up and narrowed her eyes. “But what is your name?”
Kaiden cleared his throat, as though giving me permission to speak.
I smiled and put the wineglass underneath the veil to drink. “It's Aria.”
“Aria.” They echoed.
“It's a lovely name.” Damien said to me with a smile. Then he lifted his wineglass in midair. “A toast to Miss Aria.”
Kaiden looked at me with a raised eyebrow as though saying, “You date this dude?”
I laughed at Damien's stupidity on display. “Why celebrate me when I haven't healed your father?”
“I know it'll be successful,” he clicked his wine glass with the others. “You aren't called legendary for nothing, are you?”
He was daring me. I sat up with a smirk. “When I heal your father, you will apologize for your incompetence.”
“We'll see.” He gave me a nod and then Kaiden's.
Luna Bella has a short laugh. “Ah, I see you have a sense of humour on you, Lady Aria.”
“Oh no. Just Aria will be fine.” I almost added bitch at the end.
“So…” she leaned back in her seat. “I saw you and Alpha Kaiden holding hands earlier… Are you two a thing?”
That question was off-putting. First if all, how did they even notice?
I laughed it off. “That question is a bit personal, Your Majesty...”
“No,” Luna Bella shook her head. “I'm–”
“My lover.” Kaiden interrupted us both.
I looked at him with widened eyes. What was he doing?
“What do you mean, Alpha Kaiden?” Damien was the one that asked this time.
“I said,” Kaiden took my hand and lifted it for them to see. “She's my lover.”
Before I could react, he pulled my hand to his lips and gave it a gentle kiss.
“You both look so cute together.” Luna Bella clapped her hands like she won at a gamble.
“I know, right?” Freya clapped her hands together gleefully.
“Thank you.” Kaiden smiled and turned to me.
I mouthed a thank you to him and he held down my hand.
Lady Bella snapped her fingers and the maids came to clear the table. “You know, Alpha Kaiden you're lucky to have someone this powerful by his side unlike some people who are the complete opposite.”
Freya nearly choked on her wine. “What?”
I stifled a laugh. Did she just insult Freya?
Freya rolled her eyes. “Well, everyone is unique in their own way.”
She finished her wine and glared at me. Just what did I do wrong?
Just then, she pinched her eyelids. “Just why are you hiding your face, miss healer?”
This same question, again?
I had barely replied before she stole the words from my mouth. “Do you have a deformity of some kind? Or are you just not confident of your beauty?”
She ended it with a hysterical laugh and I nearly punched her tooth out.
No one found her joke funny and she became more embarrassed.
“I'm sorry.” She hung her head.
I smiled. “It's alright. Children are children.”
She gripped her own glass and I feared she'd shatter it. She finished the wine in one gulp and excused herself. No one needed to tell me that I had just made myself an enemy.
