Chapter 3 Trap

Zoey seemed to be experiencing this kind of game for the first time, and she joyfully clung to Amelia's neck.

"Mommy, look! That man is catching up! Go, Mommy!"

Seeing Zoey's excitement, Amelia was momentarily unsure how to react.

Fortunately, their car was just ahead. She quickly jumped in with Zoey.

At the same time, Carl was stepping out of the building with some documents. He saw his boss, Raymond, with a grimace on his face, clutching his groin and chasing someone, and hurried over.

"Mr. Adams, what happened?"

Raymond's eyes were glued to Amelia's retreating figure. "That woman—she's back! Go after her!"

"Which woman?" Carl asked, bewildered.

Raymond's face darkened. "How many women have I spent my life looking for?"

His fury triggered Carl's recognition, and without understanding the full situation, he took off in pursuit.

Across the wide road, a few black Mercedes were speeding away.

Amelia glanced at the people following her, puzzled by Raymond's persistence.

Just then, Lucy called.

"I've arranged everything. Where are you?"

Amelia focused on the road ahead. "Raymond's men are chasing me. I can't break away right now!"

Lucy was shocked. "Raymond's men? What about Lyanna's wedding? Are you still going?"

Amelia gritted her teeth. "Yes, I have to!"

She had waited for this moment for too many years to miss it now. Lucy's anxious voice came through the phone.

"But they're still chasing you. How will you get there? Do you want to risk your life?"

Amelia hesitated briefly, then quickly turned the steering wheel.

"I'm at Maple Grove Avenue. I'll shake them off and meet you to switch cars. I'll head to the hotel; you take Zoey to the airport!"

Without waiting for Lucy's response, she merged into the chaotic traffic with the pursuing cars.

Meanwhile, at the hotel, Raymond stood up from his chair, his face dark.

"Have they caught her yet?"

Carl quickly replied, "Not yet, but we've deployed our men and are monitoring all surrounding cameras."

"Apprehend her the moment she's spotted."

Raymond nodded, ready to leave, when he noticed a large wedding photo at the entrance. "Whose wedding is it today?"

Carl glanced at the familiar face in the photo and hesitated. "It's the Smith family's second daughter, Lyanna, Mr. Amelia Smith's sister."

A thought flashed quickly through Raymond's mind, and he smirked. "So that's why she's here."

At the hotel's back entrance, Amelia parked the car, donned a hat to cover her face, and surreptitiously found a server's uniform before boldly making her way inside.

Because this was an alliance between two prominent families, Lyanna and Hugo Graves's wedding was a grand affair, attended by the elite.

Amelia entered the banquet hall just as Lyanna and her husband Hugo were greeting guests at the door.

Seeing Lyanna standing there elegantly, Amelia couldn't help but smile.

She remembered when she and her mother first came to the Smith household, unable to afford a decent pair of shoes. Now, Lyanna had grown up, though her heart had darkened.

Recalling her father's tragic death, Amelia's resolve hardened. She inconspicuously pushed her trolley forward.

"Excuse me, miss, could you please move?" Amelia spoke up.

Lyanna was puzzled by the trolley's approach but, with so many people watching, she suppressed her urge to lash out and moved aside.

Yet the trolley continued to follow her.

Lyanna couldn't hold back any longer. "What's your problem? If you can't do your job, get someone who can!"

"Don't waste my time!" Lyanna hissed in anger.

Amelia lifted her head slightly. "How could I not know? This is a special delivery for you, Lyanna."

Her light, airy tone made Lyanna stare at Amelia as if she'd seen a ghost.

"What are you doing here?"Lyanna's sharp voice drew the attention of those around them.

Hugo looked over with concern. "Darling, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, just a shock from seeing a familiar face!" She quickly pulled Amelia into a corner, ignoring the curious stares.

"What are you doing here? Why are you here?"

Gone was Lyanna's ladylike facade; she now looked like a chicken caught in a trap.

Amelia wore a cold smile and replied softly, "Of course, I'm here to attend my sister's wedding."

Amelia smirked as she softly replied, "Of course I had to come to your wedding. How else could I repay you for hunting me down for all those years?"

Lyanna slowly released Amelia, her smile never faltering. "In that case, come on in. We don't want to be late."

Lyanna pulled Amelia inside.

The crowd watched them disappear.

"I never knew Lyanna had a sister."

"And she's gorgeous, way out of Lyanna's league."

Another woman wearing a pearl necklace chimed in, "No kidding. Did you see her face? How did someone like her end up marrying Hugo from the Graves family?"

Amidst the gossip, Lyanna led Amelia to a secluded corner.

Once they were alone, Lyanna's face turned cold.

She let go of Amelia's hand and shoved her. "Really? You chose my wedding day to come back. What are you up to?"

Amelia crossed her arms, looking relaxed and indifferent. "I'm here to do what I need to do. After all, you made my life hell back then. I owe you a memorable gift."

"Oh, really?" Lyanna raised her eyebrows, preparing to call the person over.

Just then, a staff member in a black uniform hurried over.

Seeing them, he anxiously called out, "Ms. Smith, the wedding is about to start."

Lyanna frowned slightly and replied, "Alright, I'm coming."

After the staff left, Lyanna glanced at Amelia before turning to leave.

"You stay here and don't move an inch, or else you'll bear the consequences!" she snapped, not waiting for Amelia's response.

She walked to the corner and quickly took out her phone. "Get over here immediately. Amelia is in the backyard. If any of you let her ruin my wedding, you're all dead meat!" Lyanna threatened viciously.

The staff didn't dare delay and hurriedly brought people over.

Meanwhile, Amelia, seemingly unbothered, strolled through the hotel garden with earbuds in.

On the other end, Lucy was waiting in a car.

Amelia asked, "Are the reporters ready? Is the live-streaming equipment set up? We can't miss the show."

Lucy replied, "Amelia, don't worry. They're professionals. Trust their expertise."

Amelia nodded slightly. "Alright, I'll trust them this time. Make sure you record a segment for us."

Lucy agreed, "Got it."

After hanging up, Zoey, sitting next to Lucy, asked curiously, "Is Mom going to catch bad guys?"

Lucy patted her head and smiled, "Yep, your mom's catching the bad guys. And once she does, we'll have something really good to eat."

Zoey clapped her hands excitedly. "Yay, finally something good to eat!"

Inside the hotel, Amelia had just ended her call and was looking for a place to rest when the music started, and the hostess's sweet voice filled the hall, "The wedding is starting."

Lyanna, in her flowing white gown, walked arm-in-arm with Hugo, the eldest son of the Graves family, towards the wedding altar.

She looked like she was about to step into a blissful life.

But unfortunately, she had wronged Amelia.

Entering the marriage altar wouldn't be easy.

With a mocking smile, Amelia started to head that way.

However, a group of bodyguards stormed in from the other side. One of them pointed at Amelia. "There she is! Quickly, seize her for me."

Amelia raised an eyebrow in surprise. "You can't hold back, can you? Fine, no need for more theatrics."

With that, she turned and sprinted in the opposite direction.

The bodyguards chased after her, almost catching up when Amelia's eyes flashed, and she darted into the wedding hall.

All eyes turned to her.

Feigning panic, Amelia pleaded, "No, don't grab me. I'm just here for my sister's wedding. Please don't grab me."

Lyanna and Hugo were at the altar, about to exchange rings.

Hugo looked bewildered at the sudden commotion.

He turned to the bodyguards chasing Amelia. "What's going on?"

Lyanna's expression changed but quickly composed herself, explaining to the crowd, "That's my sister. She was in a mental hospital. I don't know how she got out."

Before anyone could react, she hurried towards Amelia, shouting, "Amelia, weren't you supposed to stay in the hospital? How did you get here?"

Then she signaled the bodyguards, whispering urgently, "What are you waiting for? Grab her!"

The bodyguards moved, but Amelia was agile, dodging them with a mocking smile.

Carl recognized Amelia and blurted out, "Isn't that Mrs. Adams?"

He was about to step forward when Raymond stopped him.

Raymond, with a stern look, said, "Wait. Let's see what's happening."

Amelia skillfully evaded the bodyguards, leading Lyanna to a secluded spot.

Lyanna, cornering Amelia, spoke coldly. "Do you think you can escape? Your father couldn't, and neither can you."

Amelia, unafraid, met her gaze and asked lightly, "What, are you going to kill me like you did to my father?"

Lyanna scoffed, "Why not? You're both worthless. Dying together would be fitting."

She advanced, ready to act.

Just then, a group of reporters emerged from behind a flower wall.

Flashbulbs went off, and microphones were thrust forward.

"Ms. Smith, what did you mean by that?"

"Was Mr. Smith's death related to you?"

"Did you push Mr. Smith off the building?"
