Chapter 11
As I kept thinking, I unknowingly fell asleep.
I thought I would have nightmares, but unexpectedly, I had a good night's sleep.
When I woke up, there was a stack of cash and a business card on the bedside table.
There was also a note: Contact if needed.
The handwriting was strong and steady, just like Christopher's personality.
In fact, at my parents' funeral, he gave me the same business card.
At that time, Lawrence saw the card and "jealously" said a few words. Later, that card was nowhere to be found.
When I went downstairs, the butler greeted me.
"Ms. Turner, Mr. Collins has gone to the company. The clean clothes are in the wardrobe in your room, washed and dried. Other things were also sent to your room by the maid this morning, as instructed by Mr. Collins."
I was wearing pajamas, and I did intend to ask where my clothes from yesterday were, but I didn't expect Christopher to have arranged everything.
I didn't expect him to be so considerate.
Breakfast was also a nutritious meal specially instructed by Christopher for the chef to prepare.
After thanking the butler, I borrowed the villa's landline to call my good friend Paula.
Since my parents passed away, I got pregnant shortly after marrying Lawrence and had no social life, so Paula made me memorize her phone number, saying it would be useful in critical times.
I didn't expect it to come in handy now.
On the phone, I told Paula everything that had happened to me.
She is a lawyer and has seen too many cases of couples scheming against each other and turning against each other in divorce cases.
But after hearing my story, she was still so angry that she gritted her teeth and cursed Lawrence and his entire family from head to toe before calming down.
She began to analyze the situation for me.
"Melinda, the best way to get back at a disgusting bad man is to take away what he values the most. But Lawrence himself is a finance major and managed to take control of the Turner Group within a year, so he's not a simple person. We need to plan carefully and find evidence of his asset transfers.
Otherwise, even if you win the divorce case, you might end up with an empty shell company, and he might even leave you with debts to bear. So you have to endure the disgust and not let Lawrence see any clues. Pretend to play along with him for now."
Paula has become a well-known divorce lawyer because of her strong professionalism.
She didn't miss a single certification exam she needed to take.
Later, she joined a prestigious law firm to gain experience, and eventually, she was able to take on cases independently. After building her reputation, she started her own law firm.
None of the cases she handled ever lost.
So, I completely followed her advice.
Besides, Lawrence graduated from a prestigious school, pursued a master's and a Ph.D., and earned numerous certificates. After completing his doctorate, he took over the Turner Group and kept it running smoothly, so he's not a fool. To deal with him, I indeed need a thorough plan and preparation.
"I know!"
I won't let Lawrence's schemes succeed.
He won't get my parents' inheritance.
"Now you need to play the role of a weak, dependent woman who has lost her parents, is infatuated with him, and is reluctant to divorce. Make him lower his guard, and then slowly gather evidence of his infidelity.
By the way, didn't you say you received a provocative video from his mistress? When you go home, make sure to save that video."
"Okay!" I obediently agreed.
Paula couldn't help but sigh with heartache, "Melinda, now that you're facing this situation, don't be afraid. You still have me! Your parents might be watching over you from above, thinking of you. You're not alone."
I just felt my throat dry and my eyes couldn't help but turn red, "I know. It's just that I blame myself. My dad even warned me back then, but I was too stupid to realize it."
"It's not your fault! It's Lawrence who had impure motives and is morally corrupt. Since Kyle saw through him back then, it means that no matter how well he disguises himself, the truth will come out. No matter how meticulous Lawrence is, he will still show flaws. Now that he thinks he's about to succeed, he will definitely become complacent and reveal more flaws, and you'll be able to gather more evidence against him."
Mentioning Kyle made my heart ache again.
Kyle was able to build the Turner Group from scratch, having seen all kinds of people.
He had a sharp eye and must have seen through Lawrence's hypocrisy back then, which is why he didn't approve of me being with Lawrence.
But what did I do?
Not only did I not listen to my parents, but I also rebelliously got together with Lawrence shortly after their death and married him.
And now, Lawrence is scheming to take their inheritance.
I really deserve to die.
"Paula, thank goodness for you. Otherwise, I really wouldn't know what to do," I replied with a sob.
Paula comforted me with heartache, "Sweet Melinda, don't cry. I will protect you. Also, didn't you hear that your child was poisoned by Lawrence and his family? You need to find evidence of that too. If you do, it will be a criminal case, and he and his evil mother Missy will end up in jail together."
"Yes, yes!" I nodded vigorously over the phone, "I understand what you mean. Whether it's evidence of them poisoning my child, his infidelity, or his asset transfers, I will gather it all and bring him down. I will protect my parents' inheritance myself."
Paula praised me with relief, "Melinda is the strongest. Be careful yourself. Also, I will help you order a few sets of pinhole cameras and recording devices. I'll have my assistant deliver them to you. Place them in Lawrence's private places, like at home, in the car, and in his office. I don't believe we won't catch him."
I had learned to respond quickly, "Should we also hire a private investigator to secretly investigate and follow him? They are professionals, and we should leave professional matters to professionals!"
"Smart, thinking of solutions already. That's also a good idea! And you need to act quickly. That bastard Lawrence knows you found out about his infidelity, and with his meticulous methods, he will definitely take precautions. So, you need to act first."
Paula didn't hold back her praise for me.
With her comfort, my originally angry and restless heart calmed down a lot.
"Then I'll go home soon!" I replied.
Since I decided to face it bravely, I should act as soon as possible.
Paula said one last thing, "Don't be afraid, wait for me to come back!"
She was currently on a business trip for a case.
But her words gave me strength. I wasn't fighting alone.
My eyes were filled with hatred and determination.
Lawrence, wait for my fiercest revenge!
After hanging up the phone, I planned to go back.
However, Christopher had helped me so much, and it wouldn't be appropriate to leave without saying anything.
So, I picked up the business card he gave me and decided to call him to say goodbye in person.
