Chapter 4

The elevator doors opened, and seeing someone inside, my tense nerves instantly relaxed.

I only had time to shout for help before I collapsed softly.

Inside the elevator was an elderly couple who lived upstairs.

Seeing my legs covered in blood and me clutching my stomach in pain with a pale face, they hurried over to support me.

"Melinda, what happened to you?" The old lady had seen me a few times while walking in the neighborhood.

I weakly pleaded, "Please help me. Missy despises that I'm carrying a girl and doesn't want me to give birth. She not only took my phone to prevent me from calling for help but also beat my stomach! Could you please call an ambulance and take me to the hospital to save my baby?"

"What?" The old lady was shocked by these horrifying words, "How can there be such a person in this world? It's simply appalling! Melinda, don't be afraid, I'll call an ambulance for you right away."

Hearing this, Missy endured the pain and rushed out of the house, cursing as soon as she opened her mouth.

"Melinda, you bitch, stop lying! You were the one who disrespected your elders. I worked hard to make breakfast for you, but you refused to eat because it was too early and even hit me! I had no choice but to fight back, and now you're trying to frame me to get Lawrence to send me back home! Now you're slandering me, how can you be so malicious?!"

Saying I slandered her, she's the one slandering me!

I was so angry at her words that I almost vomited blood, shaking my head continuously, "It's not like that, she's lying. Please help me call, my stomach hurts so much."

The old lady looked at Missy, then at me, clearly conflicted and unsure who to believe.

However, in the end, considering that I was pregnant and a life was at stake, she chose to help me make the call.

Seeing this, Missy immediately lunged to snatch her phone.

"What are you doing? Don't call. She's just pretending. Every woman gives birth, why can't she? Calling for an ambulance and shouting for help, so dramatic, spending Lawrence's money without any concern!"

I couldn't hold back anymore and shouted lowly, "The capital for Lawrence's company was given by me, and he promised to give me original shares! I'm spending my own money!"

"What do you mean your money? You belong to Lawrence, so your money naturally belongs to Lawrence too." Missy had her own twisted logic.

The old lady was shocked by her words, "How can you say that? Melinda married Lawrence, she didn't sell herself to him. I've never seen someone so brazenly occupy someone else's property!"

"Who are you calling an occupier?" Missy was so angry she wanted to tear the old lady's mouth.

The old man, who had been silent, pushed her away, "So what if she says that? If you don't want people to say it, don't do it! Call the ambulance, as long as I'm here, let's see who dares to bully you and Melinda!"

Missy was pushed against the elevator wall, and immediately, in a fit of rage, wanted to step forward again.

But seeing the old man holding a cane, ready to swing it at her, she didn't dare.

She just glared at me with hatred, wishing she could kill me.

I ignored her, my eyes red with gratitude as I thanked the elderly couple.

After my parents passed away, I was deceived by Lawrence, thinking that those well-meaning relatives and friends were coveting the huge inheritance my parents left me.

So, against their objections, I insisted on marrying Lawrence, even cutting off contact with everyone, ultimately isolating myself.

At first, Lawrence treated me very well, very gently.

When Missy was first brought over, she also took good care of me. Whenever I wanted to do some housework at home, she would quickly take over.

She would also kindly say, "Melinda, Lawrence married you to let you enjoy life, not to do housework. Besides, you're pregnant now, what if you get tired? Be good, rest, and tell me if you need anything, I'll help you!"

At that time, being pampered by Lawrence and cared for by Missy, I lived like a princess.

Even my colleagues envied me because their married lives were all terrible and chaotic.

They either fought with their husbands or had tense family relationships, everyone envied me for finding such a good man like Lawrence and having a sensible and diligent elder like Missy.

I even once felt fortunate that I didn't listen to my family's advice and cut off contact with them.

Marrying Lawrence was the best decision I ever made.

But now, betrayed by Lawrence and bullied by Missy, with no one to help me, I deeply regretted it.

But regret was useless now, I had to do my best to save myself!

The ambulance arrived quickly, and I was carefully lifted onto the vehicle by the medical staff. When the accompanying doctor called for family members, Missy swiftly climbed into the ambulance.

"I'm her family, I'll go with you!" Missy said, staring at me with a sinister look.

I had a feeling that if she went to the hospital, she would definitely do something bad.

But my stomach hurt so much at this point, I just wanted to get to the hospital and save my baby.

The ambulance started, and twenty minutes later, I was taken to the delivery room.

The doctor examined me and found severe bleeding, with a risk of massive hemorrhage.

Moreover, the baby was in a breech position, making natural birth impossible, and recommended an immediate C-section.

However, as soon as Missy heard about the C-section, she started causing a scene.

"Don't think I don't know, you quacks just want to make more money from surgery fees. No, we won't have a C-section, let her give birth naturally! If she can't, let her die on the delivery table!"

Hearing these cold and heartless words, I knew Missy really wanted me dead.

I struggled to get up from the bed and weakly said, "Doctor, don't listen to her, I make my own decisions, C-section! I'm conscious, I'll sign the consent form."

The doctor, shocked by Missy's malicious words, immediately handed me the consent form when I offered to sign it myself.

Just as I was about to take it, Missy suddenly rushed over, snatched the form, and tore it to pieces.

Missy then tried to hit me, "Melinda, you bitch, childbirth is dangerous for everyone, why are you so special? No C-section, C-section babies aren't as smart as naturally born ones. You must give birth naturally today!"

The medical staff quickly stepped in to stop her, and the doctor, looking astonished, said, "Ma'am, please calm down. We are doctors, please trust our professional judgment. The pregnant woman's condition is indeed very dangerous, if we don't operate soon, both she and the baby could be at risk!"

The doctor had laid out the most severe consequences, but Missy still continued to argue irrationally.
