Chapter 9

"Get out and reflect on yourself!"

The door slammed shut with a merciless sound.

I lay on the ground in a sorry state, taking a long time to regain my strength and slowly come to my senses.

On the door still hung the happy decorations that Lawrence and I had put up together last year.

At this moment, they felt like a slap in the face.

I propped myself up against the wall and took the elevator downstairs.

On the way, I encountered neighbors from the same building who saw the blood on my forehead and arms but didn't know what had happened.

Some people sympathized with me, while others were scared and avoided me.

When I reached the entrance.

Outside, the rain was pouring down, splashing on the ground and creating a mist. The night descended, and the lights couldn't penetrate the mist, making the outside seem like it was covered with a veil, adding to the fear of the night.

My parents had protected me too well before, and I never dared to go out when it was too late and too dark.

Later, when I started dating Lawrence, he always carefully protected me at night, becoming my sense of security, which made me increasingly dependent and infatuated with him.

I hesitated for a moment but ultimately didn't step out of the door.

In the end, I curled up and sat at the stairwell on my floor for a long time, long enough to think that Lawrence should have calmed down by now, and I decided to go back.

Either have a good talk with him and completely break up, or take my phone and call my good friend Paula Ellis to pick me up.

The house had a password lock, and I opened the door very quietly. Lawrence and Missy didn't notice that I had returned.

Instead, they were talking.

I paused my steps and didn't go inside, standing quietly at the door, wanting to hear what they were saying.

"Lawrence, with such a good opportunity today, why didn't you get rid of that bitch Melinda? Anyway, the child was already drugged to death, dealing with that bitch Melinda wouldn't be difficult!" Missy, at this moment, was like a venomous snake spitting venom.

"Mom, it's not the right time. You were too impulsive in getting angry at her, and it made me fall out with her too. You don't know, her parents were wealthy and bought her a lot of financial products early on, worth at least tens of millions of dollars. She's also smart and has some investments of her own. She also has shares in the company. Although her parents passed away, I coaxed her into giving me full control, but the shares were originally inherited by her. The old employees of the company still remember her parents and recognize her. She occasionally checks the company's financial situation. Even if I transfer funds, I can only do it secretly and slowly."

Missy got anxious, "What should we do then? When she transferred it to you, you weren't married yet, so it's your premarital property!"

Lawrence shook his head, "It's not that simple. It can't be calculated that way. Those were transferred to my name as a premarital gift with the intention of marriage. After all, those shares were her parents' inheritance.

It's also my fault for not explaining it to you earlier."

Missy angrily slapped the coffee table, "Isn't a premarital gift supposed to be from a man to a woman? You've been coaxing and pampering that bitch Melinda for so many years, and those were your prime years. Are you just going to let it go? Isn't there some kind of compensation?"

Lawrence's face turned ugly, "Compensation for lost youth! There's no such thing, and I'm a man!"

"That's not what I meant!" Missy muttered awkwardly, then asked, "What should we do now? Do I have to beg for her forgiveness? Even if I'm willing, she might not forgive me.

After all, you cheated on her. I think that bitch Melinda is a proud person and probably won't forgive you, right?"

Lawrence's expression relaxed, "That's not something to worry about. She's proud, but a woman like her, without parents, who has never been in a relationship before, is easy to deceive.

And I've been training her for so long. This time, it was because of the child that she suddenly resisted so fiercely. Don't worry, I can coax her back.

But Mom, you shouldn't be so harsh on her for now."

Missy breathed a sigh of relief after hearing Lawrence's confident words, "Got it, got it. You're still the smart one, the only smart one from our place. I've worked hard to raise you, knowing you'd be successful."

At this point, Lawrence couldn't help but proudly raise his head.

When he first met Melinda, knowing her family background, he was sure he could handle her, and things indeed went as he expected.

Everything was under his control.

"Mom, when our plan goes through, you'll be able to enjoy your old age." Lawrence smiled.

He couldn't help but recall the past, "At first, I was attracted to her father's status as the CEO of a listed company, and she was the only daughter. I pretended to fall in love with her at first sight, coaxing her and pleasing her, making her believe in being with me.

But that Kyle Turner was also a snob, looking down on others, and he favored Christopher Collins. It was rumored that Christopher was like a son to him.

He favored Christopher but not me, the one his daughter liked. But in the end, he died, and I became the heir of the Turner Group."

Missy laughed heartily, feeling pleased.

She had already started planning the money's use, "When we get that money, give each of your two uncles a million dollars, and buy houses for your four sisters. Then, in the village, we'll build a big villa, and everyone in the village will only try to please our family."

The more she talked, the more pleased she became, laughing heartily.

She also reminded Lawrence, "By the way, how are things with Clara Simpson? Should we arrange a meeting with her and her family?

We've been sincere enough with her, and the child is already drugged to death.

Clara should be devoted to you, right? But it's normal for her to be difficult; after all, she's beautiful and has a good family background, much better than that bitch Melinda.

If you had met Clara earlier, Melinda wouldn't have had a chance.

If her parents are hard to please, I'll teach you. Get her pregnant early, and once a woman has a child, she'll be devoted to you, and you can save on the dowry."

The house was designed to be windproof.

But standing in the hallway, I felt as if I were being blown by a cold wind, feeling icy and bone-chilling.

Lawrence, oh, how good he is.

He has such a ruthless heart.

I thought I had found true love, but it turned out to be a trap he had set for me.

From the moment he met me, he had been plotting my parents' wealth.

No wonder, for a while, when Christopher came to my house, Lawrence always tried to follow me home, to prevent my parents from giving the inheritance to Christopher.

Unfortunately, only someone as petty as him would think that a gentleman like Christopher would think the same way.

Christopher never cared about or coveted my family's wealth because he didn't need it and wouldn't.

He often visited my parents because his parents were busy with a project for a while and left him at my house. He was grateful, so when he got into college here, he would visit during holidays.

Indeed, only someone with impure thoughts like Lawrence would think everyone was like him.

And the child.

The child was also drugged to death by them.

Lawrence, how could he dare?

That was his child too.

Even the most vicious person wouldn't harm their own child. How could he be so malicious?

Ugh!

Just thinking about how I fell in love with such a malicious man like Lawrence and shared a bed with him for over thirty days makes me feel nauseous and want to vomit.
