Chapter 29 Marriage Certificate
Aria strutted out of the venue, her steps steady.
Her posture was perfect, and the dress she wore fit her like a glove, making her look stunning and classy.
The moment she stepped outside, a swarm of reporters who had been waiting pounced on her, blocking her path.
Cameras flashed in her face, capturing every moment.
"Miss York, do you know about Billy and your stepsister?"
"Miss York, what do you think about Billy cheating on you with your stepsister?"
"Miss York..."
The entrance was jam-packed with reporters.
Aria knew she had to say something, or she'd never get out of there.
"I never thought something like this would happen. Billy and I have known each other since we were kids. I thought our love would last forever, but I never expected..." She let a perfectly timed sadness wash over her face. She took a deep breath, looking like a heartbroken victim.
"Miss York, did you really not know about Billy and Laura?"
"Will the marriage between your families still happen?"
"Will the bride be replaced?"
The reporters kept firing questions at her.
"The engagement is obviously off." Aria forced a smile.
The reporters didn't let up, and seeing her response, their questions got even more intense.
"Miss York, such a big thing, you didn't notice any clues?"
"Could it be that you knew all along and are just pretending to be innocent?"
"The live stream was played just on time. How did it happen to catch Billy and Laura's conversation in the lounge?" As soon as these words were spoken, there was a moment of silence.
Then whispers started, and everyone stared at Aria, waiting to see how she'd handle this.
Aria wanted to laugh, 'the reporter had guessed right.'
She pretended to be angry and raised her voice, "Your words are too hurtful! Everyone has seen the effort I put into the new product launch. Even if I did it on purpose, I wouldn't choose such an important occasion!"
Just as Aria was being grilled by the reporters, a black car slowly pulled up across the street.
The window rolled down, revealing Lewis's exquisite and cold face.
Through the crowd, Lewis's eyes locked onto Aria's.
Aria was a bit surprised to see Lewis, 'why was he here?'
Oh, she almost forgot, today was the day they were supposed to go to the Windsor Mansion to meet the elders.
She subtly nodded to Lewis, then straightened her back again, planning to say something to make the reporters back off.
But Aria didn't expect a reporter to push past her bottom line.
"Miss York, it's said that your mother was the home wrecker, and Laura's mother was your father's true love..."
Aria's eyes immediately turned cold, anger bubbling up inside her.
No matter what they said about her, she could handle it, but they couldn't insult her mother!
When Aria was five, her mother protected her in a car accident, using her own body to save her. Her mother was great and selfless.
How dare these people?
Just as Aria was about to lose it, an angry female voice suddenly rang out, "Watch your words, or see you in court."
Becky rushed over, fearlessly pushing through the reporters, shielding Aria as they walked out.
Feeling the warmth of her friend's support, Aria's anger faded. She was grateful to have a friend who loved her by her side; otherwise, she would have lost control.
Just now, a bunch of wild thoughts about taking these people down flashed through Aria's mind, with weapons and poison formulas she had never even heard of...
The sudden knowledge that popped into her head freaked her out a bit.
"Fuck off! Can't you see how you make Aria suffer? She's the victim, and you have no right to ask such heartless questions!" Becky yelled at the reporters.
Becky pushed back against the reporters who were trying to get closer.
She used her small frame to shield Aria as they made their way to the black car.
The rear window rolled down, and Lewis looked at Aria, his lips barely moving, "Get in the car."
"Aria, get in the car!" Becky was still a bit intimidated by Lewis, but there was no better option right now.
"Becky, I can't leave you alone." Aria shook her head.
"You'll be late. There's another car behind to take Becky away." Lewis frowned slightly.
"Their target is you. Once you leave, they'll scatter." Becky smiled and pushed Aria into the car.
After a quick glance at the reporters, Aria bent down and got into the car.
"Don't worry, see you later." Becky waved to Aria as the car sped off.
Aria sat in the car, looking back.
For a long time, almost until she couldn't see Becky anymore, Aria stubbornly kept looking back.
Actually, she wasn't worried about Becky; she just felt uneasy.
The car's interior was tight, and the heat from Lewis's thigh next to her made her cheeks get hot.
The deep, cold woody scent filled Aria's nose, reminding her of that one-night stand, making her sink into the sexy scent. She was also puzzled, did all the Windsor family men use the same cologne?
"Becky will be fine." Lewis's sigh was barely audible.
"Thank you." Aria turned to Lewis.
Lewis took out a file folder and handed it to Aria.
"What's this?" She looked up at Lewis, her eyes full of confusion.
"Marriage certificate." Lewis answered.
Hearing it was a marriage certificate, Aria's heart skipped a beat, and her fingers instinctively tightened around the folder.
Had she become a married woman so quickly?
She hadn't even been able to go to City Hall herself, making Aria feel a sense of unreality.
But thinking of the Windsor family's influence, she somewhat understood.
'It's just a marriage; Simon certainly didn't need to be there in person.'
Thinking of Simon, Aria felt a bit down.
Such an important thing as a marriage certificate, yet it wasn't delivered by her husband.
Aria wanted to ask where Simon was and why he didn't come.
But remembering today's chaos, she suddenly felt that Simon not coming might be a good thing.
"Thank you." Aria held the folder, speaking softly.
Lewis didn't reply, and the car fell silent.
Aria grew nervous at the thought of meeting Simon's grandmother soon.
She looked out the window at the rapidly passing street scenes, but what she saw was Lewis's handsome profile reflected in the window.
Her heart felt like it was gently stirred by an invisible hand, causing slight ripples.
In the small, quiet car, her senses were magnified, and nervousness intertwined with an inexplicable crush.
Lewis seemed to sense something, raising his eyes to meet Aria's gaze in the window.
Their eyes met, and for a moment, a familiar electric feeling spread from her heart to her entire body.
Feeling her cheeks heating up, Aria quickly looked away, her hand unconsciously touching her chest, trying to calm her racing heartbeat.
