Chapter 2
The next day, Charlotte pulled herself together, slipped into a fancy dress, and got all dolled up because tonight's cocktail party was a big deal for her company.
At the party, Charlotte mingled effortlessly, wine glass in hand.
She had a killer figure, and her dress showed it off perfectly.
Charlotte raised her glass, clinking it with everyone, noticing their eyes lingering on her chest. She just gave a faint smile and sipped her wine.
Frederick watched all this from the corner.
Seeing other guys eyeing Charlotte like hungry wolves, Frederick's eyes darkened, and a wave of anger started to build up.
After a few rounds of drinks, Charlotte put down her glass and headed to the restroom.
She couldn't remember how many people she had mingled with over drinks, but at least a couple of them showed interest in her company's perfume.
But drinking wasn't good for the baby, and she needed to throw up fast.
Charlotte walked unsteadily and unexpectedly bumped into Frederick at the restroom door.
She frowned and tried to ignore him, but he grabbed her wrist and pulled her over before she could take more than a few steps.
She couldn't break free and was eventually dragged away by Frederick.
The restroom was empty. Frederick locked the door behind them and pressed Charlotte against it. "We just signed the divorce papers last night and haven't even finalized it, yet you're already looking for another guy? And what are you wearing? Don't you see them eyeing your chest?"
"Charlotte, if you can't live without a man, why did you turn me down last night?" Frederick stared at her intensely.
"Let go of me." Charlotte struggled hard, sobering up a bit.
She'd only had a few drinks and hadn't done anything wrong.
Did she have to blindfold those guys?
Charlotte couldn't break free from his grip, her voice filled with anger, "It's none of your business. I'd rather give it up to the next person I meet than have anything to do with you!"
He instantly kissed her, cutting off her words.
In five years, it was the first time Frederick had kissed Charlotte.
Charlotte's eyes widened, and her mind went blank.
Frederick himself found it absurd, but he couldn't help it. He clearly remembered the way Charlotte used to look at him, with admiration and affection, but now she said she didn't want anything to do with him anymore.
Frederick suddenly felt a mix of emotions he had never experienced before, leaving him in turmoil.
He deepened the kiss involuntarily, their tongues entwining passionately.
Charlotte frowned, never expecting Frederick's first voluntary kiss to happen like this.
After regaining her senses, she tried to push him away, but Frederick held the back of her head, deepening the kiss even more.
Little did he know that he was such a good kisser. He just followed his instincts, increasingly eager to claim her lips and teeth as his own, trapping Charlotte firmly in his arms. His fingers ran through her soft hair, feeling their breaths mingling.
He had never known Charlotte could be so sweet, making him unable to stop.
Charlotte's body trembled lightly, her breathing became erratic, and she felt the surrounding oxygen thinning to the point of suffocation, her strength seemingly drained.
Her legs weakened, unable to stand, and she could only cling to his embrace, letting him take what he wanted.
Frederick's aggressive approach left her almost defenseless.
Just as his hands began to wander on her body restlessly, his phone in his pocket suddenly rang.
Frederick paused, his eyes clearing instantly. He let go of Charlotte and pulled out his phone. Seeing the caller ID, his eyes softened immediately.
Charlotte watched the change in his eyes, feeling a mix of emotions.
Without even looking, she knew it had to be Serena calling.
Charlotte leaned against the wall, pressing her warm lips together, still feeling his warmth, a hint of sarcasm tingeing her expression.
In their five years of marriage, Frederick was always traveling for work or spending time at the hospital with Serena.
She, the so-called Mrs. Percy, was just a title.
But all of this was about to end with their divorce.
Seeing Frederick's gentle demeanor while holding the phone, Charlotte smirked. If they made her unhappy, she was going to play along.
"Serena, what's wrong?"
Frederick suppressed his aroused desires, treating treating Serena with the gentleness of someone handling a precious treasure.
"Mr. Percy, please come to the hospital immediately! Ms. Brown woke up, couldn't find you, and in a fit of panic, she fell out of bed. Her condition is very bad, and she won't let us get close to check on her. Please help us calm her down!"
The nurse's voice was urgent, on speakerphone, "Ms. Brown, calm down. We've contacted Mr. Percy!"
"Frederick! My belly hurts so much. Is my baby going to die?"
Serena's voice trembled, full of grievance. "Didn't you say you'd always be with me? Why aren't you here? I'm so scared."
Frederick comforted her gently, "I'll be back soon. Be good and cooperate with the treatment."
Serena's voice was tearful and threatening, "If the baby dies, I won't live either."
Frederick's eyes darkened, his jaw clenched, but his voice remained gentle, "I won't let anything happen to you or the baby. Wait for me."
As Frederick was about to hang up, Charlotte suddenly spoke.
"Frederick, who are you talking to? Don't stop it, ah."
Charlotte raised an eyebrow provocatively, her eyes cold.
Frederick's gaze instantly turned icy, and Serena's voice on the other end became sharp, "Frederick, what are you doing? Is it that woman? I was wrong. You're married, and I shouldn't have disturbed you. You don't need to come."
"I won't get treated! Let me die!" Serena's emotions spiraled out of control. "Get out, all of you!"
The nurse's tray was knocked over, causing chaos on the other end.
Frederick hurriedly tried to calm her down, but the call was disconnected, leaving him frowning deeply.
"Charlotte! I warn you, don't provoke her! If anything happens to her, you can't afford the consequences!"
Charlotte clearly saw the blame in Frederick's eyes, her heart aching. Taking a deep breath, she said, "You two disgusted me first."
If they were getting divorced, why kiss her? After kissing, he went to flirt with another woman!
She wouldn't be pushed around so easily anymore!
Charlotte tried to leave, but Frederick grabbed her wrist, pulling her back, and said coldly, "You should go to the hospital to apologize to Serena."
Charlotte laughed in anger when hearing his words. "I did nothing wrong, why should I apologize?"
She shook off his hand and walked away quickly.
Frederick watched her graceful figure, clenched his phone, and called the hospital to inquire about Serena's condition.
It was Serena who answered the call.
After her brief outburst, she began to sob softly, apologizing, "Frederick, I'm really sorry. Please don't leave me."
"I have nothing left."
Frederick's lips tightened, remaining silent for a long time. Amid Serena's sobs, a sense of guilt rose in his heart.
