Chapter 010 Isn't It You Who Will Take Action?
"Who is it?" Joseph asked.
"Monica!" Alexander spat out her name, thinking of the woman he saw at the hotel.
"Mrs. Smith?" Joseph was stunned. "She's back?"
Alexander stayed silent, his mind racing with thoughts of Monica. Just thinking about her made his blood boil.
Nine years ago, she had pushed Stella down the stairs just to marry him. Later, she schemed to drive Stella out of the Brown family, even causing her own parents to disown her. Five years ago, after giving birth, she abandoned the babies, leaving them to almost die in an orphanage.
He had never met anyone as cold-hearted as Monica, especially towards her own children.
Joseph wanted to say he didn't think Monica was that bad, but seeing Alexander's darkening expression and the icy vibe he was giving off, he decided to keep his mouth shut. "Got it, Mr. Smith. I'll look into it right away."
"And also, dig into CLOUD. I want to know who's really behind it."
"CLOUD? Didn't we already check them out? Do you think there's something fishy about the company?"
"The main person running CLOUD is Evelyn, but the real power is Helen."
These two were shrouded in mystery; no one had seen them or knew who they really were. Alexander had a gut feeling they had some beef with the Smith Group.
"Investigate thoroughly. I want every detail about these two!"
"Understood, Mr. Smith!"
The next morning.
Monica woke up early to make breakfast for the kids.
While she was toasting bread, she heard a noise behind her. Turning around, she saw Daniel washing vegetables. He looked up and flashed her a sweet smile. "Mommy, I'm helping you."
"Thanks, sweetheart," Monica said softly.
It was a bit odd since William usually loved cooking and handled all the meals at home. She worried about him getting hurt and didn't want him in the kitchen at such a young age, but he was so insistent that she eventually gave in.
Today, though, he didn't jump in to cook.
But Monica didn't think much of it.
She didn't know Daniel had never been in the kitchen before.
This was his first time helping with the veggies.
Because he was well-versed in his siblings' routines and made sure not to raise any suspicions with Monica. He also enjoyed spending time with her and was always eager to do whatever he could to make her happy.
Monica made the breakfast the kids loved. Just as they finished eating, Evelyn showed up with two people.
One was a housekeeper named Linda, a super capable woman in her forties who was responsible for taking care of the kids.
The other was a makeup artist hired to do Monica's makeup.
Monica couldn't help but laugh. "Is all this really necessary?"
"It's your big debut, it has to be grand!" Evelyn said, pushing her upstairs.
"Yeah, I want everyone to see that my mom is the most gorgeous!" Daniel chimed in.
Monica couldn't resist and let them do their thing.
Meanwhile, at the Smith Villa, William and Sophia were enjoying some fancy afternoon tea when Alexander walked in.
He had just stepped inside when Stella appeared, all dolled up. She stood in front of Alexander, shyly smiling. "Alexander, do I look okay like this?"
Alexander gave her a quick glance and nodded indifferently. "If you like it, it's fine."
Bertha, noticing his cold attitude, was about to say something, but Alexander turned and headed upstairs without another word.
Sophia, who was stuffing her face in the dining room, suddenly let out a burp.
William slid a cup of hot cocoa in front of her.
Sophia turned to him. "William, Mommy is definitely going to that party today. Now that Stella is going with Mr. Smith, aren't you worried that Mommy will be bullied by that bad woman?"
"Isn't that what you're here for?" Sophia grinned. William knew her well.
She immediately pulled out a handful of capsules from her pocket, separated them, and poured the powder into a cup of coffee, stirring it thoroughly.
She waited for Alexander to come out of his room, then quickly got up, carried the coffee over to Stella with a silly smile, and handed it to her.
Stella's smile froze. She didn't dare drink the coffee, but in front of Alexander and Bertha, she couldn't say anything. She said, "Amelia, thank you, you're so sweet. But I've already put on lipstick, so I can't drink the coffee."
Sophia pretended not to understand and pushed the coffee closer to her.
Stella cursed the little fool in her heart.
"Ms. Brown, she went out of her way to bring you coffee, and you can't even be bothered to accept it?" Alexander, not wanting to see his daughter disappointed, frowned, and his voice turned cold.
Stella's face turned extremely grim.
But she knew that in Alexander's heart, nothing was more important than his daughter.
If she continued to refuse the coffee, Alexander might not take her with him.
And Sophia kept holding the coffee, insisting she drink it.
Stella had no choice but to force a smile and say, "Alexander, you misunderstood me."
She then took the coffee and said, "Thank you, Amelia."
She tried to pat the little girl's head to show affection, but Sophia turned and ran away.
Stella cursed the little brat in her heart but kept a gentle smile on her face. She drank the coffee and said, "It's delicious. Thank you, Amelia."
In fact, the coffee was very bitter.
Sophia secretly laughed where Stella couldn't see.
Alexander finally said expressionlessly, "Then we should go."
With that, they left together.
Meanwhile, Evelyn and Monica also left.
Evelyn drove Monica to the party venue herself.
As the car stopped, Monica took a deep breath.
Evelyn looked at her and couldn't help but laugh. "Monica, do you really need to be so nervous?"
"I'm not."
Monica looked at her dress again and asked Evelyn for the third time, "Are you sure I look okay in this?"
