Chapter 032 Let Alexander Come and Tell Me in Person
Monica couldn't help but chuckle, thinking, 'Layla said this just a few days ago. Now it's Bertha warning me to stay away from Alexander. Seriously, don't these people have anything better to do?'
She set her coffee cup down and looked up at Bertha. "Mrs. Smith, are you really accusing me of being involved with Alexander?"
"I knew you wouldn't admit it!" Bertha's eyes were cold. "If you're not involved, then how did CLOUD and the Smith Group end up working together? First, you chased Alexander to the Johnson family's winery, and now you're using every trick in the book to collaborate with him. Do you think I can't see through your schemes? Let me tell you, Monica, the Smith family will never accept a woman like you!"
Monica nodded. "I know the Smith family is the top dog in Emerald City, and tons of women are dying to marry into it. But if they knew what kind of person their future mother-in-law was, they might think twice, no matter how rich the Smith family is. As for the party at the Johnson Group winery, it was Michael, the president of the Johnson Group, who invited me."
She continued, "And about the collaboration between CLOUD and the Smith Group, if you don't believe me, Mrs. Smith, you can ask around. Mr. Smith personally came to CLOUD twice to finalize the deal. It wasn't me who initiated it."
Monica laid it all out and added, "Mrs. Smith, if you want to come at me, at least get your facts straight, okay? Don't embarrass the Smith family!"
Bertha was so mad she was shaking, pointing at Monica, and cursing, "I don't care what tricks you used to get Alexander to work with you, but Monica, I'm telling you, I don't agree. Got it? If you have any sense, go to Alexander and cancel the collaboration yourself. A woman like you doesn't deserve to work with the Smith Group."
"Whether I deserve it or not isn't up to you!" Monica's face darkened. "If the collaboration is to be canceled, let Alexander come and tell me himself!"
"You..." Bertha was so angry she couldn't speak, and after a moment, she said, "I knew it, you still haven't given up on Alexander, you..."
Before she could finish, Monica had already stood up and opened the door to the reception room.
She then turned to Bertha coldly. "Go ahead, curse as loud as you want! Show them!"
As soon as she finished speaking, a crowd had already gathered at the door.
Monica smirked.
She knew Bertha cared about her dignity.
Bertha was trembling with rage, she slammed the door shut, glaring at Monica. "Monica, don't think I can't do anything to you just because of this. If you don't cancel the collaboration yourself, believe me, I have plenty of ways to make you leave Emerald City!"
"Of course I believe you!" Monica walked up to her and whispered, "After all, you're Mrs. Smith, and your methods..."
"Monica!" Bertha's face changed instantly, looking at her in disbelief, not expecting Monica to know about her past.
Monica smiled. "Mrs. Smith, I came back to the country for work, not for Alexander. If you want to cancel the collaboration, go and tell Alexander. If he agrees, I have no objections. There are plenty of companies wanting to work with CLOUD. To be honest, the Smith Group is just icing on the cake, far from being a lifesaver, so I really don't care. But if you really want to go to war, I'll be with you to the end!"
She was no longer the daughter-in-law who could be manipulated by Bertha.
Bertha looked at her determined and fearless eyes, and her arrogance was finally suppressed.
She really didn't expect Monica to become so difficult to deal with now.
"Mrs. Smith, if there's nothing else, please leave. And don't come again, because I can't stand looking at you. It's disgusting."
"Monica!" Bertha shouted in exasperation.
But Monica had already left the reception room without looking back.
Bertha was trembling with anger, not even knowing how she walked out of the office building.
Stella was waiting for her downstairs. Seeing her unsteady steps, Stella quickly went up to support her and asked, "Mrs. Smith, what happened to you?"
"Monica, that bitch! She'll regret it."
Stella wanted to get some information from her, but Bertha was so incoherent that her words made no sense.
From her fragmented words, Stella finally figured out that Bertha's visit to Monica had no effect and that Monica had even mocked her.
She was furious inside, thinking that this old woman was useless, always putting on airs, but couldn't even handle Monica.
However, after today's events, it seemed that Bertha would never allow Monica to marry Alexander again.
In the end, Stella could only pretend to be concerned and said, "It's okay, Mrs. Smith, don't be angry. Let me take you home."
At five in the afternoon, Alexander had already settled his two kids at home.
Joseph came to report, "Mr. Smith, I've arranged the dinner location at our Smith Group's Blue Ocean Club. The dishes there are popular with many ladies, and I'm sure Mrs. Smith will like it."
"Does it matter if she likes it?" Alexander gave him a cold look.
"Then, Mr. Smith, shall I change it to another restaurant?" Joseph asked tentatively.
"No need, just set it there and send her the address."
"Yes, Mr. Smith."
Upon hearing that their parents were going on a date, the nearby kids were thrilled and discreetly high-fived each other.
Alexander saw this and raised an eyebrow, looking at them. "Daniel, what are you up to again? Amelia just got out of the hospital, take her back to her room to rest."
