Chapter 050 The Swan and the Ugly Duckling
Stella bit her lip and whispered, "I just don't want to take this because Monica loves it. I really shouldn't..."
"Ms. Brown, that's so hypocritical!" Monica cut in coldly. "You said your piece and played your part, and now you're being all polite? Do you think we're all idiots?"
Monica stepped aside, making way for Stella. "Ms. Brown, go ahead!"
Stella felt stuck but had no choice. She stepped forward with the tea set, hoping her card had enough credit.
She handed her credit card to the salesperson. "I'll take it, put it on my card."
"Sure, Ms. Brown, just a moment."
The salesperson took the card and went to process the payment.
Everyone around, who had been watching the drama, forgot about their own shopping and stared at the scene.
The store fell silent until the POS machine beeped, and a clear voice announced, "Sorry, your balance is insufficient."
Stella's face went pale instantly.
Evelyn laughed loudly. "So, you can't even come up with a few million dollars? What, your parents don't give you money, and your fiancé doesn't either?"
Stella was speechless.
Diana, not backing down, said, "Even if Stella can't afford it, I don't believe you can either!"
"Actually, we can." Monica sneered, pulling out a card from her bag and handing it to the salesperson.
Everyone stared at the card in Monica's hand.
It was a black card with gold embossing, globally limited, and with no spending limit, symbolizing prestige.
The salesperson was about to take the card, but Monica pulled it back. "I don't want that tea set anymore. Bring me the most expensive one you have."
"Of course, Ms. Brown, just a moment. I'll have someone bring it over." The store manager quickly came over, whispered to the salesperson, and then said to Monica, "Ms. Brown, please wait in the VIP area."
Monica nodded and sat down on the sofa in the VIP area, under everyone's gaze.
Soon, a salesperson brought over a beautifully packaged rectangular gift box, placed it on the coffee table in front of Monica, opened it, and said, "Ms. Brown, please take a look. This is our store's treasure, the only set."
"How much?" Monica asked casually.
"Thirty-six million eight hundred thousand dollars."
"Okay, charge it to my card." Monica handed the card to the store manager.
Stella and Diana watched from the side, their teeth grinding in anger. How could Monica afford something so expensive?
Diana gritted her teeth and whispered to Stella, "That bitch, there's no way she has that card on her own. Alexander must've given it to her. Stella, why are you just standing here? That card should be yours. Go get it from her."
Stella opened her mouth to respond, but when she looked up, she saw everyone around them staring with disdain.
"Did you see that? The Ms. Brown in the VIP room has a black card. But these two can't even afford a few million dollars and are accusing the black card owner of being a homewrecker. I think they are the real homewreckers."
"How could these two be so shameless."
Stella couldn't keep her composure any longer and stumbled backward.
Diana caught her just in time and started yelling at the gossiping customers, "What are you talking about? You don't know the truth, yet you're still gossiping. All of you, get out!"
Monica and Evelyn in the VIP room heard Diana's sharp scream, and Monica sneered.
Evelyn frowned. "What kind of idiot is this, Diana? Why is she defending Stella so much?"
"The Scott family has done well in recent years, all thanks to the Brown family's support. Diana has to suck up to her," Monica explained.
"I see."
Meanwhile, the store manager had already packed the tea set and handed it to Monica. "Ms. Brown, it's all packed. Do you need me to have someone deliver it to your home?"
"No need, I'll take it." Monica took the package.
"Okay, have a nice day. Come again if you need anything."
Monica nodded slightly and left with Evelyn.
It wasn't until they walked out of the store with the tea set that Diana and Stella snapped out of their shock. Over thirty million dollars and Monica just bought it like that?
Diana gritted her teeth and kept cursing Monica, "That bitch is just a poor girl from the countryside. How on earth could she afford it?"
Stella was also extremely jealous but had to maintain her pure and refined image. She frowned and looked worried. "Yes, I find it strange too. I heard Monica is just a project manager at CLOUD now. She shouldn't be able to afford such an expensive item. I hope she hasn't done anything wrong."
'She must be being kept by some old man. She's just pretending in front of us. I'll tear off her disgusting mask sooner or later,' Diana thought viciously.
Stella didn't say anything, but in a place where no one could see, her eyes were filled with malice.
Monica, of course, didn't know about their malicious and jealous thoughts.
At this moment, Evelyn was already driving her back to Lakeview Bay.
All the way, Monica seemed preoccupied, and even when the car arrived at Lakeview Bay, she didn't seem to want to get out.
"What's wrong?" Evelyn couldn't help but ask, "Why are you still upset?"
