Chapter 052 You Dialed the Wrong Number

Monica was caught off guard. She remembered Sophia never really being into music, and her violin playing was pretty awful. But now, she was nodding eagerly, clearly interested.

Monica nodded back. "Alright, let's see what you've got on the piano."

She took the kids' hands and sat down at the piano. Monica on the far left, Amelia in the middle, and Daniel on the far right.

Daniel picked a piece from "Pirates of the Caribbean."

Monica used to play this piece with William, who was a piano whiz. Sophia, on the other hand, had no musical talent, but she hated being left out. Every time they played, she'd mess things up.

This time, Monica was ready for Sophia to cause trouble again. But to her surprise, the little girl played seriously, not missing a single note.

Monica was floored.

While the kids played, Monica quietly stepped back.

She sat behind them, watching Sophia effortlessly take over her part, her fingers dancing over the keys, nothing like the clumsy attempts of the past.

When the piece ended, the kids turned around together, and Daniel asked, "Mommy, did we do good?"

"Yes, very good." Monica smiled and kissed their cheeks.

Daniel's smile grew even wider, thinking, 'Mommy is the best, unlike Daddy who has never praised me.'

Monica looked at her daughter. "Sophia, you never liked music before. How did you get so good?"

"Sophia's getting better too!" Daniel chimed in, then added, "Mommy, it's late. We need to wash up and go to bed. You should rest early too."

"Alright." Monica didn't push further.

After tucking the kids in, Monica went back to her room, but thoughts of them kept her tossing and turning all night.

Early the next morning, still half-asleep, her phone rang.

Without checking the caller ID, she answered, "Who is it?"

Her groggy voice made the man on the other end chuckle. His voice turned deep and smooth. "Still not awake?"

Alexander? Monica jolted awake.

She didn't expect him to call so early.

She sat up and said coldly, "Mr. Smith, you must have the wrong number."

Hearing her icy tone, Alexander's mood soured. His voice turned cold, "Ms. Brown, don't worry. If it weren't for Grandpa insisting I pick you up, I wouldn't have called. I'm not as free as you."

Monica then remembered she had plans to visit Preston.

Alexander was personally coming to pick her up.

Monica paused for a few seconds before saying, "Mr. Smith, no need to trouble yourself. I'll explain everything to Preston and keep you out of it."

On the other end, Alexander's lips twitched.

Damn Monica, she used to always get under his skin, and now she didn't even argue. But this cold attitude somehow annoyed him even more.

"You have fifteen minutes to get ready," Alexander said coldly and hung up.

Monica didn't bother with him.

She hadn't asked him to pick her up, and it wasn't like she had to visit so early. So she followed her usual routine, washing up and changing clothes. By the time she was ready, almost an hour had passed.

As she was about to leave, Daniel and Amelia were having breakfast in the dining room.

She patted their little heads and said, " Mommy has something to do and will be back in the afternoon. Be good at home, okay?"

"Okay!" Daniel responded obediently.

Amelia nodded too.

Only then did Monica change her shoes and leave.

Little did she know, as soon as she left, the two kids quickly ran upstairs. On the second-floor balcony, their little heads peeked out and saw Alexander's extended Rolls-Royce.

Daniel was thrilled. "It's Dad! He came to pick up Mommy himself!"

Amelia nodded eagerly; she saw it too.

Daniel said, "Dad's making a move. Not bad."

Amelia nodded again; she thought it was good too.

Daniel continued, "I wonder where he's taking Mommy. Are they going on a date?"

Amelia nodded for the third time. A date was good; she liked it when they went on dates.

Outside, Alexander, sitting in the car, had a keen sense. His sharp eyes looked toward the balcony.

Daniel sensed something and quickly pushed Amelia's head down, keeping them out of Alexander's sight.

Alexander frowned. Was it his imagination? Why did he feel like someone was watching him?

At the same time, Monica got into the car.

Alexander turned impatiently, ready to mock her. In all of Emerald City, no one had ever dared to keep him waiting for an hour.

However, the moment he saw Monica, he was stunned.

He had always known she was beautiful. Even when she didn't dress up, her delicate features were stunning.

Especially today, she had put on light makeup and wore a champagne-colored dress. The fitted cut perfectly outlined her slender waist, and her delicate face, bathed in sunlight, looked ethereal.

For a moment, Alexander just stared, forgetting to breathe.

Monica knew he was looking at her, but she ignored him, turning her face towards the window, not wanting to talk to him.

Alexander's mood soured, and he coldly ordered Joseph to drive.

Joseph was also shocked. It was the first time Alexander had been kept waiting in the car for an hour without getting angry.

This was unbelievable.
