Chapter 054 What Is He Expecting
Monica and Alexander were both taken aback by Preston's words.
Back when they were together, Preston would often hit Alexander, supposedly out of pity for Monica.
Every time, she'd step in to stop him, but Alexander always thought she did it on purpose to make him look like the bad guy while appearing understanding and kind herself.
The more she did this, the more he resented her.
But Monica never bothered to explain herself.
Now, it felt like history was repeating itself.
Alexander stayed silent, just staring at Monica with a faint sense of expectation, though he wasn't sure what he was hoping for.
But Monica just smiled and said to Preston, "Preston, I'm not feeling sorry for him. We're already divorced, it doesn't matter anymore. Please don't get upset because of me."
Preston shot Alexander a glare, then turned to Monica with a loving smile. "Alright, I'll listen to you. I won't say anything. Monica, tell me, what have you been up to abroad all these years?"
"Actually, not much. Everything's fine." Monica didn't want to talk about herself and quickly changed the subject, "Let's not talk about me, Preston. How about you? You just got out of the hospital. How are you feeling?"
"I'm old, all kinds of problems come up, and this brat always makes me angry, there's nothing I can do." Preston sighed.
Alexander finally couldn't take it anymore and said helplessly, "How is this my fault?"
"Then whose?" Preston glared at him.
Alexander was speechless.
Monica said, "Preston, it's okay, don't worry. I'll talk to Helen and ask her to come and check on you. Your health will definitely improve."
"Good, you're always so considerate." Preston patted her hand, smiling broadly.
"Ms. Brown, you really know how to please people," a sarcastic voice suddenly came from outside the door.
Then, Bertha walked in with Stella.
Preston glanced at them, his face instantly darkened, and he snorted coldly, "What are you doing here?"
"Dad, I heard you were discharged, so I came to see you," Bertha replied with a smile. Then she turned to Monica, her expression changing instantly, and said arrogantly, "Monica, since you can invite Helen, hurry up and ask her to treat Stella's leg."
"How dare you!" Preston angrily slapped the coffee table.
Bertha and Stella were both startled, clearly not expecting Preston to be so angry.
Monica quickly took his arm and patted his back. "Preston, don't be angry, it's okay."
Stella quickly reacted, pulling Bertha's arm and persuading, "Mrs. Smith, didn't we agree to just celebrate Mr. Smith's discharge today and not mention the past?"
Then she walked up to Preston, holding a gift bag with both hands, and said shyly, "Mr. Smith, I wanted to visit you in the hospital when I heard you were admitted, but I didn't know which hospital you were in. I'm glad you're okay now. These are some health supplements I specially asked a friend to bring from abroad for you."
Preston glanced at it indifferently and said without much emotion, "That's thoughtful, but I don't need it, you can take it back."
Stella didn't expect Preston to shut her down like that, and her smile got a bit awkward.
Bertha, feeling bad for her, couldn't help but say, "Dad, Stella came with good intentions to see you. Isn't it a bit harsh to say that?"
"Is that so?" Preston's scrutinizing gaze fell on Stella again. "It seems you're indeed very courteous, but how could you still stay in the Brown Villa knowing your true identity?"
Stella's face turned pale.
Bertha was about to speak, but Preston continued, "And Ms. Brown, you should have scheduled a visit in advance, not just shown up today unannounced."
He was indeed sharp.
Monica, listening on the side, couldn't help but want to laugh.
Alexander looked at her, seeing the curve of her lips, and he also smiled slightly.
This scene made Stella feel even more embarrassed. She tightly gripped the handle of the gift bag, cursing Preston in her heart. No matter how much she tried to please him over the years, he always ignored her, always thinking of that bitch Monica.
Today, he embarrassed her in front of Monica, giving her no face at all. How could she ever hold her head up in front of Monica again?
She instinctively looked at Alexander, only to find that he had been looking at Monica the whole time.
She was fuming with anger.
Bertha couldn't stand it anymore and said helplessly, "Dad, Stella just wants to come here to visit you. How could you say that? Aren't you being too biased?"
Preston looked at Monica calmly, sipping his tea slowly, "Monica is the granddaughter of my old comrade and my granddaughter-in-law. Even if she divorced Alexander, she is still my precious granddaughter. Not everyone is qualified to be compared to her."
These words made Stella's face turn completely pale.
She had hoped to show her filial piety to Preston today, to let Alexander know she was sincere to his family. But Preston made her look worthless in front of Monica.
Now, not only could she not hold her head up in front of Monica, but also in front of Alexander.
Bertha couldn't stand Preston favoring Monica so much. Her tone immediately became serious, but she still suppressed her anger and said, "Dad, I don't understand how you can treat such a ruthless and vicious woman like this. You know, it was Monica who pushed Stella down the stairs, causing her to be unable to walk properly for years. She has no remorse and repeatedly obstructs Stella's treatment."
Bertha continued, "Recently, the Johnson Group held a banquet, and Alexander was supposed to take Stella to see Helen for treatment, but they didn't even see Helen. Monica and Helen are both from CLOUD, It must have something to do with Monica. Such a vicious woman doesn't deserve your love, Dad. How can you keep defending her?"
