Chapter 059 Deliberately Leading People Over

The whole ride was dead silent.

When they arrived at Lakeview Bay, Monica didn't even spare him a glance as she got out of the car.

Just as she was about to shut the door, Alexander broke the silence, "I didn't ask Helen to..."

"It doesn't concern me," Monica cut him off coldly and walked away.

Alexander was left speechless; he wasn't used to explaining himself to anyone. Monica's attitude was getting worse.

And honestly, so was his.

Joseph, watching Alexander through the rearview mirror, couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for him. The big-shot president of the Smith Group, who commanded so much respect in the business world, couldn't catch a break from his ex-wife.

His grandpa and his kids also never gave him a moment's peace.

"Drive," Alexander ordered, his voice icy.

"Yes, Mr. Smith," Joseph replied, starting the car.

They drove along the winding mountain road.

For some reason, Alexander couldn't shake the image of Monica's face, twisted with hatred.

Did she really despise Stella that much?

He remembered Monica as someone who didn't hold grudges. Could it be that what she said about that incident was true?

After a moment, he turned to Joseph. "Joseph, what do you think about what happened between Monica and Stella nine years ago?"

"Well," Joseph hesitated, "from what I remember, it looked like Mrs. Smith pushed her."Alexander's mind flashed back. Everyone had been outside; no one was indoors, especially not on the second floor.

Monica had already finished her makeup, and the room was empty. People were drawn by Monica's sharp scream.

Then they saw Stella tumbling down the stairs, with Monica standing at the top, her arm outstretched.

"Honestly, back then, I thought Mrs. Smith pushed Ms. Brown because she'd just come back from the countryside and I didn't know her well. But over the three years she was married to you, I got to know her better. I don't think she's that kind of person."

"Why do you think that?" Alexander asked.

"It's just a gut feeling. Mrs. Smith has always been kind, not the ruthless type. And that scream we heard, if she was the one who pushed Stella, why would she draw attention to herself? It seemed like she was calling for help. And in all the time I've known her, she's never been the type to raise her voice, even when she's upset."

Alexander nodded.

Joseph's thoughts mirrored his own.

He'd never really questioned it before, but now, there seemed to be a lot of unanswered questions.

Had he really misunderstood Monica?

Just then, his phone rang. It was Preston.

Alexander answered.

Preston's voice was gossipy and excited, "So, did Monica put the liniment on you?"

Alexander's lips twitched. "Is that why you beat me up?"

"If you had any backbone, you wouldn't have gotten beaten up."

"Alright, thanks for your concern," Alexander replied irritably.

"I'm telling you, I've set things up for you. If you don't grab this chance and win Monica back, I'm done with you. Got it?"

"Do whatever you want," Alexander replied coolly, not fazed by Preston's threat.

"Fine, I'll set up a blind date for Monica right now. There are plenty of great guys out there, and with Monica being such a catch, I'll find her the best match. Don't get jealous then."

Preston hung up before Alexander could respond.

The thought of Monica with another man soured Alexander's mood even more.

Lakeview Bay

Monica walked into the living room and heard the sweet sound of musical instruments coming from upstairs.

It wasn't just a piano; there was a violin too, like a duet.

Surprised, Monica asked Linda, "Is that William and Sophia playing?"

"Yes," Linda replied. "I've never seen Miss Sophia Brown play before. I didn't expect her to be so good and know so many instruments."

Monica frowned, changed her shoes, and headed upstairs.

In the music room, Daniel was at the piano, playing seriously, looking both handsome and adorable.

Amelia sat beside him, her little head tilted, holding a violin. She looked serious and well-behaved, perfectly matching Daniel's playing.

Every now and then, she glanced up and smiled at Daniel, creating a warm, beautiful scene that touched Monica.

She didn't want to disturb them, so she quietly went back to her room.

She knew William was talented, especially with programming, always glued to his computer writing code.

Sophia, on the other hand, was always restless, always looking for excitement, never sitting still, let alone playing an instrument.

She never had a sense of rhythm.

But whether it was the piano this morning or the violin now, Monica didn't hear a single wrong note.

This made Monica uneasy. She closed the door and called Evelyn.

Evelyn answered quickly, laughing lightly. "How did you know I was just about to call you?"

Monica didn't speak, just sighed.

"What's up?" Evelyn asked.

Monica explained, "I don't know what's going on with Sophia. She used to act like sitting at the piano was torture, but now she's playing quietly. And you know what? She not only plays the piano but also the violin, with perfect rhythm and not a single wrong note. This was impossible before." She grew more worried as she spoke.

Evelyn couldn't help but laugh. "If it were someone else's kid, they'd be thrilled. But you, you're worried."

"Actually, I don't have high expectations for them. I don't need my kids to be exceptionally talented or capable. I just want them to be safe and healthy, and I'd be content. They're still so young, and I really don't want to diagnose them with mental issues, but seeing their current situation, I can't help but worry."

After speaking, Monica asked, "How's the appointment for the psychological consultation going?"

"I was just about to tell you, I got Timothy for tomorrow at 10 AM. Is that okay?"

"Yes, thank you so much."

"Why are you being so polite with me?"

They chatted a bit more before hanging up.

Monica was lost in her thoughts and didn't notice the two small figures that flashed by the door.
