Chapter 007 She Dares to Come Back

Monica spun around and walked back, trying to keep her cool, not sure if Alexander had spotted her.

Even though they'd been married for three years, he was hardly ever home. Even if they were face to face, he might not even remember her, right?

She clung to a tiny bit of hope. As she passed her private room, she was about to go in but thought better of it. If Alexander recognized her and saw her kids, everything would be exposed.

She couldn't let Alexander know she had his kids.

So she kept walking quickly, hearing footsteps behind her. Panicking, she pushed open a door to another private room and slipped in, locking it behind her.

But soon, she heard someone pressing down on the door handle, followed by knocking and Alexander's cold voice. "Monica, I know it's you. Come out!"

Monica held her breath and quickly texted Evelyn: [Evelyn, hurry, I need you to cover for me.]

Alexander stood outside the door, Monica's image flashing in his mind.

Earlier at the airport, he thought he saw someone who looked a lot like Monica.

However, in his hurry to find the children, he didn't pay much heed to it.

This time, he was sure he hadn't been mistaken.

'That damn Monica, six years ago, she signed the divorce papers and even mentioned my supposed sexual dysfunction as the reason.'

She vanished without a trace, neither alive nor dead.

Nearly a year later, she left two babies at his doorstep.

So when the kids asked, he said she was dead.

He thought she'd never show up in front of him again, but here she was.

Thinking of this, his voice grew colder, and his face hardened. "Monica, don't think hiding in there means I can't get to you."

He was about to call someone to bring the key over, but just as he picked up his phone, Evelyn called.

He hesitated for a moment but answered, "Ms. Thomas? Why are you calling me?"

Evelyn heard his not-so-friendly tone and smiled. "Mr. Smith, what's wrong? Is it a bad time? Or are you upset because CLOUD refused to work with the Smith Group?"

Alexander shot back, "So? Did Ms. Thomas call to say you've changed your mind?"

"Yes, I want to meet and talk with you. Are you available?"

"Now?"

"Yes, now!"

"Sorry, it's not convenient!" Alexander said and hung up the phone.

But the call delayed him a bit. When Joseph came over with the key to the private room, five minutes had already passed.

Alexander coldly ordered, "Open the door!"

Joseph hurriedly opened the door, only to find the room empty, with the window wide open.

Alexander walked over and looked down from the third floor, but there was no one below.

Monica had jumped directly from the third floor.

That woman was really something. He clenched his fist and slammed it on the windowsill.

Meanwhile, Monica had already hidden outside the hotel entrance and called Evelyn.

Soon, Evelyn came down with the kids.

Monica saw they were fine and finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Let's go home."

Evelyn had already set up a place for them, a two-story villa with a garden, designed by Monica herself.

But she hadn't been back before, so Evelyn had overseen the construction and decoration.

Evelyn entered the code to open the door and gestured, "Ms. Brown, please come in!"

Monica playfully slapped her hand and smiled.

Evelyn guided them through the garden and the first floor before leading them to the second floor, where the five bedrooms were situated.

"Honestly, I don't get it. There are only three of you, so why design five bedrooms?" Evelyn asked, puzzled.

Monica didn't say anything, a hint of sadness in her eyes.

Daniel, who had been following closely, immediately understood. Even though Monica always thought he and Amelia were gone, in her heart, they had never left. So no matter what she bought, she always got four sets, one for each of the quadruplets, never leaving anyone out.

Whether they were with her or not, Monica always loved them this way.

Daniel suddenly felt like crying and hugged Monica's leg, calling out, "Mommy."

Amelia copied Daniel, hugging Monica's other leg, silently seeking attention.

Monica's sadness melted into a mix of laughter and tears because of them. She patted their fluffy heads and smiled. "Alright, alright, Mommy's fine. Go check out your new rooms and see if you like them."

She had designed the rooms in different color schemes for the kids. One was blue, with a top-of-the-line computer, various mechanical tools, and some handmade items that William had made himself.

Another was yellow, a lively and vibrant color, with various medical tools, and a specially designed small lab.

Daniel immediately knew these two rooms were for William and Sophia.

The other two rooms, one was white, filled with toy cars and gun models.

The other was pink, with stuffed animals everywhere, and a carefully designed drawing area by the window.

These two rooms were designed based on Monica's imagination of the other two children.

Daniel remembered William's instructions and knew he should choose his room to avoid arousing Mommy's suspicion.

But he didn't want to take William's room, so he chose the white room.

And Amelia chose the pink room.

Monica was very surprised. "William, Sophia, are you sure you want these rooms?"

She thought they should know these rooms were for the other two children.

Daniel nodded vigorously, blinking his bright eyes, and asked, "Yes. Is that okay, Mommy?"

Monica hesitated. 'Why the change in their usual preferences this time?'

But now, looking at those two pairs of pitiful, pleading eyes, she couldn't say no.

Finally, she compromised. "Alright."

The kids happily went to their rooms.

In the living room, Monica made coffee for Evelyn and asked, "By the way, how's your dad doing?"

Evelyn's eyes dimmed when talking about her father's illness. "The doctor said there's no point in surgery. We..." she sobbed.

"Don't worry too much." Monica sat beside her to comfort her. "I'll make time to visit him in the next few days. If surgery is off the table, we'll explore conservative treatments. There's always a solution."

"Okay." Evelyn knew Monica's medical skills were excellent. She wouldn't make promises lightly if she couldn't do it.

Evelyn continued, "By the way, the Johnson Group has a party tomorrow and sent us an invitation. Can you attend in my place?"

"Me?" Monica didn't want to go. "You know, I only know how to draw design drafts. I don't understand socializing at parties."

"I just want to spend more time with my dad in his final days, so most of the studio's work will have to be handed over to you. Even if you avoid it this time, there will be a next time."

Evelyn couldn't help but laugh. "There's nothing in any field that can stump you, but why do you get scared when it comes to socializing?"

"I can't help it." Monica didn't deny it. She indeed had some social anxiety and didn't know how to interact with people.

After a pause, she asked, "Alexander won't be there, right?"
