CHAPTER 2 Adoptive Mother and Elder Brother

Olivia's POV

I felt so hurt that I burst into tears as soon as I entered my room. When my adoptive mom rescued me from the woods at age 6, I finally thought I had a home, but the Alpha showed his disgust toward me on that very first day.

He said it annoyed him that I smelled like a half-breed and told my adoptive mom he hated my scent.

From that point forward, he openly showed his dislike for me. My adoptive mom tried to persuade him to treat me kindly, but his hatred for me runs far deeper than any love he might have.

As I cried in my room, the door suddenly creaked open. I quickly yanked off the covers I was wrapped in and saw my dad standing at the door, eyes filled with disdain towards me.

"Why are you here crying like some abandoned bastard!" he shouted loudly, instantly causing my heart to leap. He approached the bed as I trembled, clutching the bed covers tightly as if he came to steal my soul.

"You know why I detest you? Other than your tainted blood, you come off as very weak and brittle. You have no sign of ever getting your wolf, and you're easily defeated by criticism. How could someone like you be my daughter!" He thundered, causing my heart to race. I tightly held on to the bedcovers while he hurled insults at me.

"Tomorrow is the pack's alliance gathering, if you do not wish to be punished, you had better keep a low profile and not embarrass me and my pack!" He yelled after which he stormed out of my room, leaving me helpless and heartbroken.

I had struggled to hold back my tears while he filled the air with insults in my room, but as soon as he left, I couldn't hold it in and burst into sobs. My mom came into the room right then and quickly moved to my side, "Oh dear…please don't cry," she wrapped her hands over my shoulders and I placed my head on her chest, crying even harder.

I sobbed as I asked, "Mom, why does Dad hate me?"

"My dear, please don't pay attention to your father. I assure you he does not harbor any hatred towards you. He acts like that because he's under a lot of stress. Please don't cry," my mom said, patting me on the back and hushing me like she always did whenever I cried.

Honestly, she treated me with nothing but kindness. There's never a time I cried when she didn't come to my rescue. Olivia, please understand that I love you deeply and my greatest wish is for your happiness. Even though your father treats you harshly, stay strong because I believe he doesn't mean it.

My mom always defended Alpha Rawlings, but it doesn't change the fact that he dislikes me. I had known for years, but my mom's love gave me strength to endure all the insults of being labeled a half-breed. People say I don't smell like a purebred because I'm of mixed breed. I don't remember anything before my adoptive mom rescued me in the woods, so I have no clue about who my biological parents are.

While my mom comforted me, someone pushed the door to my room slightly open. I lifted my head and saw Julian, my brother, walk in with a broad smile spread across his face. My mom and Julian hold the greatest importance in my life because they alone provide a sense of belonging within the pack, which helps me endure all the negativity thrown my way.

"Hey sister…" he said, grinning widely. I leaned slightly away from my mom and smiled at Julian.

"Julian, it's so good to see you again!"

"Of course I am. I missed my sister and wanted to see her so badly." I pouted my lips, knowing that wasn't entirely true. Julian is my brother and my father's only child. Julian is my brother, even though we are not blood related. He treats me like his little sister, and when he's around, no one dares to bully me because he would never let them get away with it. Honestly, Julian is the most handsome man I've ever met. He stands out with his towering height, short dark hair, light brown eyes, and slightly tanned skin. His masculinity drives the female wolves wild with desire.

"Son, it's great that you're back. I should leave you two alone now," my mom said lovingly, kissing the top of my head before getting out of bed. She gave Julian a proud pat on the shoulders before she walked out of the room.

Julian walked over to my bed, sat down, and looked into my eyes. "Did you cry, Olivia?"

"Huh? Certainly not. I just had my bath and barely cleaned myself up," I said, dabbing my eyes with my fingers. I know Julian would confront our father if he were to find out I was crying because of him.

"Are you sure about this?" He asked with a raised brow.

"Of course, brother."

"Alright. Guess what I brought you, sister?" he asked, displaying a package in front of me. I went wide in surprise at once. "you brought me a gift?" I asked in bewilderment.

"Yes, a dress, to be precise. I want you to look your best by the time you step out to the pack alliance party."

I let out a shocked gasp with my hands covering my mouth.

I took the bag from him and brought out the dress, which was a long black dress with shiny diamond stones.

"It's beautiful, I love it!" I exclaimed. "I can't wait to put it on tomorrow, for my coming of age. I'm sure my mate would be happy to see me," I said delightedly while looking at Julian. But I noticed a dull look on Julian's face.

He's actually the only one who knows about my coming of age tomorrow because we are quite close.

Julian looked deep into my eyes as if trying to study me.

"You don't need a mate when you have me, Olivia," he whispered with a soft expression I've never seen him carry before.

I didn't understand Julian's sudden reaction, and so I blinked in utter confusion.

"But it's my coming of age and since it's an alliance party, I'm bound to find my mate tomorrow, brother."

Julian suddenly gritted his teeth and stood up from my bed.

"Then I wish you luck finding your mate," he muttered the words and stormed out of my room, leaving me in great confusion.
