CHAPTER 4 The Mysterious Alpha

Ethan's POV

As I took my men to the pack alliance gathering, I couldn't help but notice their insincere looks. I scoffed and stepped on the guard my men had just forced to his knees. He tried to prevent me from going to the meeting, but he didn't realize that I'm unstoppable.

"Ethan Montgomery, good to see you again," Alpha Hamilton from the Shadowcrest pack said, with a smile I assume was pretense. At that moment, I noticed Oliver's disdainful eyes fixated on me. He didn't know that I felt the same way and that he's one of the key reasons for my being here.

"It's nice to know someone welcomed me," I stated, even though Oliver and the rest of the pack Alphas looked at me like I was a gate crasher. No matter their opinion of me, I have to uncover the truth about my father's death and locate the stolen necklace.

I walked up to a vacant chair in the front and sat down.

I lifted my eyes to meet their hateful stares. Either every one of them or at least one of them must have betrayed my father.

"May I know why you've decided to cause a ruckus the moment you came in even when you were never invited, Ethan?" Oliver questioned with authority. I simply lifted the corners of my mouth into a smile. I bet he saw me as a threat because there's no other reason for him to pay that much attention to me.

I sat up straight with my legs crossed.

"Well, let's say I'd like to become a member of the pack alliance from now on." I looked directly at Oliver and asked, "If my dad could lead the pack alliance, what's stopping me?" The murmuring in the hall became even worse at this moment, and Oliver gritted his teeth and folded his hand into a tight fist. He has no clue that I've come here to torment him and the rest of the other Alphas.

At that moment, one Alpha from a pack I knew cleared his throat. I could tell that I intimidated them.

"Ethan, you have to understand that your father no longer leads the pack alliance due to certain events."

"Alpha Williams, I'm not sure what you're getting at, but I'll speak plainly because I don't like to beat around the bush." They all fell silent and looked at me, eager to hear my next words.

"I challenge anyone here to try to exclude me from the pack alliance. By doing so, you'll make yourself my enemy, and I'm certain everyone understands the consequences of being Ethan Montgomery's enemy."

When I said this, the lower ranked Alphas trembled. The others in power, particularly Oliver, paid no attention to my warnings. I thought ahead that things wouldn't turn out to be as simple as I'd like. Given their reaction, I am not at all surprised. I had my hidden troops fully prepared.

This wasn't just me coming to declare wanting to join the alliance, it was me taking the stage by force. They ought to have expected a day like this after what they did to my father. They set him up, took over his position as the leader of the alliance, and caused my banishment.

Just as I was about to instruct my troops to take over the hall for not complying, I saw a young lady who appeared deeply troubled. She scanned the area, sensing that something wasn't right. Not only that, she has the perfect pair of blue eyes and seeing how she turns and blinks, riles up a desire I had no idea I ever had. For this reason, I felt hesitant about signaling my troops at that very moment.

I gently brought down my half-raised hand. This is unlike me, but for the sake of the beauty in front of me, I'm willing to be patient.

"Ethan Montgomery, I get that you want to be part of the pack's alliance," Alpha Hamilton remarked. Since it's already in progress, we should discuss this after the pack alliance party ends."

I scanned the room and everyone appeared to agree with the suggestion. Although this isn't what I wanted, I don't intend to cause trouble on purpose. I suppose it's alright to wait until the party ends.

"Alright!" I said, rising from my seat. "If that's what you want, then I'll not be petty." I smiled and said, "I'll gladly wait for closing." Just then, my eyes met Oliver's. From my observation, he doesn't agree with this. If it were up to him, I'm sure he would have preferred to send me away from the party. If only he realized he was the reason I came.

I won't allow him to take over as the leader of the pack's alliance. I approached him carefully with my hands comfortably resting in my pockets. Those who stood near him gently moved backwards.

They seemed to be afraid of me. Well, they should. I doubt their Alpha could endure even a fraction of the hardships I faced after my father's death.

"Should I congratulate you since you'll soon become the leader of the alliance?"

I asked with a mocking tone. He lifted his head to look at me.

"Well, I think you should because that's exactly what will happen today."

I chuckled softly and shook my head.

"You're ever so confident, just like your father."

"Well, I guess I have him to thank for that. I am extremely proud that he dealt with the traitor and became the new leader of the pack's alliance."

I instantly felt my anger surge through my veins. Slowly, I clenched my hands into a tight fist. I know exactly what this stupid fool is trying to do. I will never let him win.

I gently placed my hands on his shoulders and gave them a firm squeeze. "Well, I can't wait to see that happen," I muttered, before taking my hands off. At this point, I swear Oliver would have pounced on me if only he wasn't the star of the party right now.

I instantly mindlinked my men to be on standby. Right before I turned to go, I spotted the girl I had previously seen and chose to walk toward her. Her eyes widened as soon as she saw me, but I forged ahead. I paused right next to her and whispered, "We'll meet again, soon."
