CHAPTER 5 Rejection

*Olivia's POV

I can't explain it, but the moment this Alpha named Ethan Montgomery appeared, I felt a strange sense of unease.

He seemed dangerous, and I worried about his reasons for being here.

What keeps baffling me is that the other Alphas don't seem to fear him or what he says.

Judging by the way things appeared, I seemed to be the only one showing concern about what the Alpha intends to do. I don't trust him, and his smile only heightened my unease.

He definitely has a motive. I sincerely hope nothing happens during the party.

While I was worried sick and hoping nothing happens at the party, Alpha Ethan Montgomery walked up to Alpha Oliver. Although I'm unsure what they discussed, Ethan's expression indicates the matter isn't straightforward. Additionally, my anxiety levels were higher than they had ever been.

Why would he wish to attend the Alliance gathering without having a motive? Judging by the whispers, his father used to lead the alliance, so it's more obvious now that he might have a secret intention for being here.

He gradually distanced himself from Oliver, and when I believed he was about to exit the hall, he unexpectedly looked at me. Hell no, I must be overthinking things. I fell silent when I saw him walking briskly in my direction.

I gasped, and my heart started pounding loudly in my chest. When he got to where I was standing, he paused. Goddess help me! Why in the world was he standing here? What does he want?

I became very anxious. Seeing all eyes turn towards us caused my heart to race uncontrollably. What if they assume I was linked to him?

He leaned in and whispered, "We'll meet again. Soon."

I gasped in fear at his words, and before I could reply, he was already gone.

I felt shocked and confused by what had happened. Right then, the enormous hall clock struck twelve.

I was astonished to discover that I wasn't the only one undergoing a transformation tonight. I saw the sons and daughters of other packs growling for their wolf awakening. I glanced sideways and saw Julian watching me expectantly. He nodded, signalling that it was okay. Right then, I felt an alarming heat engulf my entire body, compelling me to recoil in the same manner as the others.

The crowd's gasps were undoubtedly because of me. With the heat raging within me, I started to sense my bones snapping and cracking. In a moment of intense emotion, I erupted in a scream which rapidly shifted into a growl. In what seemed like an instant, I found myself on all fours.

I glanced down at my legs and saw that my paws were white. This surprised me because unlike others who transformed today, I was different.

"Hello, Olivia, I'm your wolf, Maia. It feels great to be awakened."

My wolf said in my head. I was so excited my wolf spoke to me, "it's so great you're here Maia," I replied in delight.

Just then, I heard a sharp growl call out to my wolf, "MINE!"

The hall gasped and so did I when Oliver suddenly stepped forward, his eyes a gray color which differs from the original blue ones. No doubt his wolf is the one who called out to mine.

"Wait, it can't be!" I muttered in my head.

"Oh yes it is. He is our mate!"

"O… Oliver is our mate?" I asked in absolute awe.

Just then, I heard a broad laugh in the hall and noticed that it was my father's. "Isn't this wonderful? I did not know my daughter is actually mated to the Alpha, Oliver Thorn. This calls for a great collaboration!" My dad said in extreme excitement. But the others didn't see things that way. The hall went silent, even after what my dad said.

"You must think I'm stupid, Alpha Hamilton. You think I'll stoop so low to be mated with a stupid half-breed of no origin!"

Everyone let out a sharp gasp, including me. I had never expected that he would reign such insults on me.

"What did you just say?" My father asked in a thunderous voice.

"Oh, you heard me! The moon goddess is mistaken if she thinks I'll accept what she offered to me as a mate." Oliver further blasted. "Alpha Hamilton, don't be a hypocrite. We all know just how much you hate your adoptive daughter!"

When Oliver said this, I couldn't help but notice how his jaw dropped. He wasn't expecting this, was he?

"Why? You think I'm not aware about what happens in your pack? Seeing her alone makes my blood boil. She disgusts me to the point I want to strangle her neck with my bare hands!"

His words hit me like a pack of ice. I couldn't help but tremble while Maia whimpered.

"You will do no such thing! Whatever I do with my daughter has nothing to do with you!"

"Oh yes, it has! And I'm going to end this humiliation once and for all!" He yelled, making me wonder what he's planning to do.

Just then, he turned his angry gaze towards me. What I saw in those eyes was clearly hate and disgust. He must despise me that much. But why?

"I, Oliver Thorn, reject you, Olivia, as my mate!"

Immediately, I felt a sharp twinge in my chest that caused me growl out. The hall went into disarray.

"He's right. Olivia doesn't deserve to be mated to Oliver Thorn. The moon goddess must have made a mistake!" The hall bombarded with disagreement about me being mated to their most cherished Alpha.

The pain increased with every minute that the hall reigned insults on me, calling me unworthy.

"How can her wolf differ from the others? Indeed, she's a half-breed, not worthy of Alpha Thorne!"

I was still in my wolf form but lost the will to race my wolf like others did. If I had known I would end up getting humiliated, I never would have expected having my mate on the day of my wolf's awakening.

Looking up at the faces of everyone screaming at me and my wolf, while my very mate looked down at me with a hateful expression, made me even more weak and devastated.
