Chapter 11 You Murderer!
Sophia jumped up and followed the servant upstairs, her heart pounding. "What's going on?" she asked, feeling uneasy.
The servant looked uncomfortable and hesitant. "I don't know, you should see for yourself."
They ascended the grand staircase and made their way down the corridor to Nicholas's room—the innermost sanctuary on the second floor. Sophia's brows knitted together, and she rubbed her fingers, feeling more and more puzzled.
Why was the servant in such a hurry to find her? Could something have happened to Nicholas? But his treatment was going well. Could it be Lorenzo causing trouble?
As soon as she reached the door, everyone turned to look at her. Diana rushed over, her eyes red and furious. "Sophia, didn't you say you were a great doctor? Is this what you call great? What did our family ever do to you to make you harm Nicholas like this?"
Warren's eyes were blazing with anger. "Is this the promise you made to me? Didn't you say you could cure Nicholas?"
The barrage of angry accusations left Sophia bewildered. She looked at Diana, who seemed ready to strangle her, and asked, "What exactly happened?"
Her heart tightened. If something really happened to Nicholas, it would be a big problem!
Warren took a deep breath and pointed to Nicholas on the bed. "See for yourself! After a few days of your treatment, he started bleeding from his orifices this morning!"
Sophia immediately walked over. Nicholas's face was covered in bright red blood, with blood oozing from his mouth, nose, and even his ears. Although someone had cleaned it up, there were still traces of blood left.
The Martinez Mansion was a large estate, and Warren liked having his family live together, so most of the Martinez family lived there. With such a commotion, they all heard and came over.
Lorenzo arrived right after Sophia. He glanced at the tense atmosphere in the room and the serious, angry expressions on the faces of his parents inside. A hidden smile flashed across his lips, and his eyes showed a hint of schadenfreude, but he put on a concerned face.
"Why is Nicholas bleeding so much? I've never heard of a comatose patient bleeding while lying in bed." He looked at Warren and added, "Dad, I told you before, this woman doesn't even have a medical license, and you let her treat Nicholas. Now look what happened?"
As Lorenzo spoke, he looked at the blood traces from Nicholas's orifices, feeling increasingly pleased. If he had known Sophia's medical skills were this bad, he would have had her treat Nicholas right away. Looking at Nicholas's pale face, he seemed almost dead.
Lorenzo raised an eyebrow at Sophia, who was still examining Nicholas's eyes. "Sophia, if you don't know what you're doing, step aside. The family doctor will be here soon. Don't waste any more time. With your medical skills, you might cause Nicholas more problems."
Diana immediately panicked upon hearing this and rushed over. Nicholas still had a breath left. If Sophia continued, what if he died?
Lorenzo couldn't help but grin. If Nicholas died, Sophia would be out on her ear. Barry would be the only obstacle between him and the family legacy, and the young boy was no threat. Then everything in this house would be his.
"Let go of Nicholas!" Diana's anxious shout made Sophia release her grip. Strangely, a smile crept across Sophia's face.
Diana's eyes widened. She looked at Nicholas on the bed and then back at Sophia, who stood before her with an unsettling calmness. Anger surged within Diana like a tidal wave. "Nicholas is in this state, and you're smiling? This is all your doing. How can you have the nerve to smile?"
In her opinion, Sophia resented the Martinez family for making her marry a comatose man and took out all her anger on Nicholas! Sleeping with him every night, who knew what tricks she played on him!
"You're up to no good. You're using the guise of treatment to harm Nicholas, aren't you? Do you think you can escape legal punishment this way? I'm telling you, it's impossible!" Diana's hands were shaking with anger. "Stay here. I'll have someone come and arrest you. You murderer!"
A cold glint flashed in Sophia's eyes. She stared at Diana, who seemed to be looking for someone on her phone, and spoke slowly. "Diana, who said that bleeding from the orifices is necessarily a sign of worsening condition?"
Diana paused and squinted at her. "What do you mean?"
"I said from the beginning, Nicholas's condition is due to poisoning, not a coma!" Sophia glanced at Nicholas. "And now, the bleeding is a sign that he's expelling the toxins from his body. It's a very good sign. I just examined him, and his condition has improved significantly. He's almost ready for the final treatment."
"Final treatment?" Leila immediately interrupted. "Who would believe that? You say you examined him, but with just a few simple moves, you can determine his condition? Who are you trying to fool?"
"Leila, think before you speak." Sophia didn't want to argue with them. "There are countless diagnostic methods in traditional medicine, and you only know the basics. Everyone, please leave so I can proceed with the final treatment."
The treatment was delicate, and having people around would be disruptive.
"No, you can't treat him!" Diana wouldn't listen and grabbed her hand. "You won't harm Nicholas again!"
"Mrs. Martinez, the result will be the same with another doctor. You might as well let me try. Besides, haven't you seen the results all along? Hasn't Nicholas's complexion been improving?"
Looking at her grandson on the bed, the old lady noticed a remarkable change in him. Before Sophia arrived, his face had always been deathly pale, and his lips were tinged with blue. Now, however, his complexion was rosy and healthy-looking; even his lips had regained their natural color.
Diana hesitated, and Lorenzo's eyes flashed with impatience. He sneered, "Who are you fooling? Whose complexion improves by bleeding from the orifices? Mom and Dad, we've been deceived by her once. Do we need to be deceived again? Nicholas can't afford any more mistreatment!"
