Chapter 9 I Hate Being Bothered
Half an hour later, Lorenzo was out on the balcony across from Sophia's room, phone in hand again, taking a call.
"Mr. Martinez, we found out," came the voice on the other end. "This medicine is for treating PTSD."
"Got it," Lorenzo replied curtly before ending the call.
He'd gone through all of Nicholas's medical records and knew he didn't have PTSD. So, it was clear who the prescription was for.
Lorenzo crushed the cup he was holding, a fierce glint in his eyes. 'Sophia just can't mind her own business! What's Barry to her anyway? Why's she so keen on treating his illness?' he thought.
He gripped his phone tightly and marched forward, facing Sophia as she stepped out of her bedroom. Lorenzo's eyes were full of disgust, glaring at her like he wanted to strangle her.
Sophia said calmly, "Lorenzo, move aside."
"Oh, the saintly Sophia has done another good deed?" Lorenzo didn't move, staring at her with sarcasm.
"Do you have to meddle in everything?" Sophia looked at him without a hint of fear, her gaze icy and disdainful.
Lorenzo's anger flared, and he pointed his phone at her nose, warning in a low voice, "Let me give you some advice. Stay out of things that don't concern you. Meddling in other people's business never ends well."
Was this a warning? Sophia glanced at the balcony and quickly realized Lorenzo had been spying on her all day. The prescription Jace took earlier was probably investigated too. Lorenzo was warning her not to treat Barry's illness.
Sophia stared coldly, "You know Barry has a mental illness."
A flicker of unease crossed Lorenzo's cold face.
Sophia pressed on, "No one in the family has been treating Barry's illness. Is this your doing?"
Her gaze sharpened, as if she could see right through him. A trace of impatience flashed in Lorenzo's eyes, and he changed the subject, "This has nothing to do with you. Certain actions come with a price! Think carefully before you act, or you might regret it."
Lorenzo shot Sophia a cold look and was about to walk away.
"Wait!" Sophia called out, and Lorenzo turned around impatiently, glaring at her.
She looked into his shadowy eyes and spoke her guess, "If I'm not mistaken, you were jealous when Warren handed over power to Nicholas, right?"
A trace of ferocity flashed across Lorenzo's face. "What are you getting at?"
Sophia continued, "You think that even if Nicholas dies, Warren will continue to groom Barry and won't hand over the power of the Martinez Group to you."
Each word seemed to pierce Lorenzo's heart, his gaze becoming sharper.
Sophia remained calm. "So, you plan to ruin Barry. You don't want him to be healthy. You tampered with the annual medical check-ups, bribed the doctors, and falsified the medical reports."
Each word struck a nerve, and Sophia stared calmly at Lorenzo's face. Sure enough, Lorenzo instantly became furious. He rushed forward, about to grab Sophia's collar, but at the last second, he restrained himself, staring coldly at her with a strange smile.
The investigation about Sophia flashed through Lorenzo's mind. Sophia was definitely not simple!
Her medical skills were top-notch, and even the prescriptions she casually wrote were highly praised by the country's leading medical experts. Moreover, her demeanor and behavior didn't match that of a weak person at all, yet the information said she had always been controlled by the Anderson family. So many contradictions, so many unanswered questions.
Lorenzo withdrew his hand, took a step back, and his expression became calm, looking at Sophia with a trace of caution. He thought he had underestimated her. Maybe Sophia could really wake Nicholas up. Then all his hard work would be for nothing.
Sophia smiled calmly, "Am I right? Let me guess what you plan to do next. Are you going to put something in the medicine..."
Lorenzo's face turned cold, "Sophia! I am Nicholas's uncle, and also your uncle. Besides, all of this is just your speculation. Who taught you to maliciously speculate about your elders?"
Sophia was scheming. If she stayed here, she might cause him even more trouble in the future. He had to get rid of her as soon as possible to eliminate future problems.
"Speculation?" Sophia blinked, looking innocent. "I'm just guessing. Why are you so guilty? Could it be that I guessed right?"
A trace of viciousness flashed in Lorenzo's eyes. He sat on the sofa in the sitting room, holding his breath, and soon his face turned red. He tore open his shirt collar with his right hand, buttons flying everywhere, and knocked over the wine with his left hand, the essence of the alcohol quickly spreading. He grabbed Sophia's hand, grinning as he pulled her onto the sofa.
"What are you doing?"
Sophia shook off his hand, but Lorenzo held her arm tightly. "Sophia, what do you think people will think if they see you half-naked, seducing a drunken me here?"
So this was his plan? Creating a scandal to force her out? Impossible.
Sophia pinched a spot on Lorenzo's body, and he immediately screamed as if electrocuted. Sophia took the opportunity to stand up.
Sophia stared at Lorenzo and smiled, "I hate being harassed the most."
Sophia chuckled, quickly pinching various spots on Lorenzo's body that could cause temporary paralysis. These were unique techniques from witch doctors.
Lorenzo lay on the sofa unable to move, feeling weak all over. He stared at Sophia with wide eyes. "What are you doing? What did you do to me?"
"Aren't you drunk? It's normal that you can't stand up," she replied with a faint smile, positioning Lorenzo in an even more compromising pose. The sight of him, utterly helpless, filled her with a twisted satisfaction.
She "accidentally" broke a flowerpot, the sharp sound echoing through the Martinez Mansion. Warren and Diana upstairs heard the noise and quickly came out, seeing Sophia covering her mouth with wide eyes, looking at Lorenzo in horror at the stairway.
"What happened?" They quickly asked Sophia, who pointed at Lorenzo, whose clothes were disheveled, and one hand obscenely stretching into his pants.
Seeing the dumbfounded looks on the old couple's faces, Sophia smirked. She had long been prepared for Lorenzo's despicable schemes; after all, a lecherous man like Lorenzo would use his underhanded tactics again and again. His deceit was like bread and butter—predictable as the sunrise.
Warren's anger flared up, and he stormed over to Lorenzo, glaring at him fiercely.
