Chapter Six

Logan stared at the table before him. A lot of food had been spread across the table and a lot of drinks laced the foods as well. He held on to the edge of the table, waiting for the ultimate inevitable to happen. He was supposed to have dinner with his mother and knowing her, she would take all the time in the world.

The dining hall was empty, save for a few servants walking past the doorway every ten minutes. The sound of growing footsteps drew his head up. Noel, one of his betas and close friends approached him, a mild glint in his eye.

"Mama not here yet?" Noel asked, reaching for one of the fruits in one of the bowls on the table. Logan watched Noel grab an apple and three grapes.

"No. And honestly, I'm thinking about cancelling the entire thing anyway." He responded, folding his hands across his chest.

"Well," Noel continued. "One thing about Brianna Frost is that she knows how to make an entrance. "

"Well, this is dinner with my mother. Not a damn fucking town hall meeting." Logan responded, feeling his frustration go up a notch.

Like Logan, Noel was pretty dominating and has an edge to him. Unlike Logan, Noel was blonde with sharp blue eyes that might carry mischief sometimes.

"This is like the only time you get to have dinner with her this month." Noel said, biting into the apple.

"Well, I know that. But I don't think she does. I have other things to do than sit here and waste my time."

"Things like what?" Noel asked, leaning closer to Logan, the mischievous glint in his eyes rapidly growing. "Like torture the Westside girl?"

Logan drew a sharp breath. Something about the mentioning of Drea jerked his mind towards the events of the previous week. The moment they had in the snow. "I'm not torturing her."

Noel smirked. "You know, it's fine if you are. I just want you to save some for the rest of us."

Logan turned to look at Noel, a plain and pretty solid look on his face. "You will not go near that girl."

Noel frowned. "Wait, it's not open season on her? I thought that was why you brought her back."

"I said you will not go near that girl." Logan repeated, his voice deeper, the look on his face more determined. "Have I made myself clear?"

Noel's frown deepened. "Well if you're not going to do anything with her, why bring her to the snow palace in the first place?"

"Have I made myself clear?" Logan repeated, drawing out his word as slow and as commanding he could be.

Noel opened his mouth to speak but the sound of heels clacking across the doorway froze the words in his mouth. Logan's mother had arrived.

"Be like that then. Alpha Logan." Noel said, raising his hand.

Logan scoffed. "Get out of here."

Noel laughed and grabbed another apple from the fruit bowl. He turned around, gave an approaching Brianna a quick nod and headed out of the dining hall.

"Mother." Logan greeted as Brianna pulled the chair across the table and took her seat. Like Logan, Brianna had jet black hair that dropped a little inches below her shoulders. She had hazel eyes that gave her a domineering gaze and her presence, just like her son's, commanded authority

"I hope I wasn't too late?" Brianna asked, a smile on his face as she reached for a fork.

"How about we just eat?" Logan asked, a smile that didn't reach his eyes appearing on his face.

Brianna nodded and soon, they both dug into their food, taking it one bite at a time. A harrowing silence filled the dining hall for almost ten minutes only coated by the sound of cutlery clinking against the fine china.

Until Brianna decided to break the silence.

"I spoke to Kathryn today." She mentioned, her voice somber and slow. "She asked of you."

"Thanks for telling me." Logan answered, already knowing where this was going.

"Her father sends her regards as well."

"Good to know."

Silence again, for another five minutes, except this time, it was more poignant and heavy.

"You know, his offer is still on the table. You could marry Kathryn today if you wanted."

"I don't want to marry Kathryn, mother." Logan said, barely letting his mother finish her sentence.

"Kathryn is the perfect match for you, Logan. As the Alpha of the Snow pack, you need a strong and powerful woman beside you as your Luna."

"Again—" Logan repeated, his voice low. "I do not want to marry Kathryn."

"You're growing, Logan. You need an heir. With Kathryn by your side, our alliance with the Claw pack is going to be stronger than ever. And the child you'll both have will rise to rule both packs."

Logan gently dropped his fork. "I don't know any other way to say this, mother. I do NOT need Kathryn to bear me an heir. I don't love her. Never have and never will."

"So what? Are we just going to wait and watch for you to produce an heir out of thin air?"

"You don't need to worry about that." Logan said. He grabbed his fork one more time and dug into his food, knowing very well that his mother's gaze was still on him.

"What are you talking about? Do you have someone else in mind to marry?"

"No."

"So how are you going to get an heir?"

Logan looked up at his mother. "Like I said, you don't need to worry about that."

"Why not?" Brianna's persistent pushed further into Logan's resolve, making him grow even more irritable.

"Because I have a plan, okay?" Logan continued.

Brianna narrowed her eyes. "What plan?"

Logan grabbed one of the fruits from the fruit bowl, sank his teeth into it and sank even further into his seat.

"You'll just have to wait and see like everyone else, mother."

Brianna stared at her son, unable to decipher the look on his face.

What could he possibly mean by that?

What plan did he have in mind?
