Chapter 4
Soon enough, Abigail found herself sitting in front of Damon, The CEO of DAMON Inc for her interview. She had made sure she arrived on time and had worn something simple and presentable.
Damon excused himself to answer an incoming call. He stood up and turned towards the window that was behind his office chair and answered the call.
Abigail used that moment to admire his office. It was really big, painted in cool colours. Of course, every piece of furniture in the room looked expensive, including the paintings on the wall.
On his big brown mahogany desk was his laptop with some files he was currently going through. There were also a few decorations on his table along with some other necessary office items.
Behind his desk was his chair and behind his chair was a transparent sliding door which led to a balcony. It also served as a window.
To her left was a shelf with papers and books neatly arranged in it and on top of it stood several awards in different shapes and sizes.
To her right was a fridge and next to it was an adjoining door. she had no idea where it led to. Behind her was a different area itself. It was a visitor's area. There were three different couches and a sofa. A small table in between which had a flower vase on top. There was also a TV hung to the wall and not too far from it was a minibar.
That was not all but she was cut off by a voice.
"Have we met before?" Damon asked Abigail, as he took his seat behind his desk, giving her that familiar look.
“No Sir.”. Abigail responded. There was no way she could have come across Damon. It was totally impossible. Damon was from a high-class family and she was the opposite so there was no way they would have met at a charity event or one of those expensive restaurants.
"You sure?" Damon mumbled, still not convinced that they hadn't met before. He was damn sure he had seen her somewhere but couldn't remember where exactly.
"No Sir" Abby assured.
“Alright then, Miss Delaney. Let’s get to work.” Damon said in a business tone, not wanting to sound like a creep.
"Please call me Abigail." She replied with a small smile.
“Okay, Abigail. I have gone through your resume and I’m impressed with your result even though you have no experience yet.” Damon said, taking a glance at her resume that was before him.
"Also, it states here that you are 25 and a single mother of two. Why do you think you deserve a spot in my company, Abigail?” Damon asked after which he sat back comfortably on his chair and folded his arms, ready to listen to what she had to say.
“I have no experience, Mr Black. But I promise you that I’m a hard worker who's willing to learn. I will make sure I do my best at all times and also ensure that things are done in the right way and at the right time.”
“I know I’m a single mother of two. I love my children so much but I promise you that they will not be an excuse for not performing my job effectively”. She completed.
Damon nodded. "Impressive!" He mumbled after a few seconds of being quiet.
"My previous secretary quit without giving me enough notice so let's just say I'm badly in need of someone to take up her role. All the same, you look like someone I can trust so I think I'm going to go with my instincts. Congratulations Abigail, and welcome to Damon Inc" He stretched out his hand to her for a shake.
"Thank you so much, Mr Black. Thank you." Abigail replied with a polite smile, not believing she got the job by just being herself and speaking from her heart. She knew this Job was a jackpot for her because the earnings will help in taking care of her mum and kids.
“You are welcome, Abigail and please call me Damon. Mr Black makes me feel old.”
"Are you sure? I mean you're my Boss." Abby voiced out.
"I used to be on a first-name basis with my previous secretary. It's only fair to extend the same privilege to you since I'm also calling you by your first name."
Abby nodded. If her Boss was okay with it, who was She not to be okay with it?
"I'm sure you must have done your research about the benefits we give our staff?"
Abby nodded. That was one of the reasons she was praying so bad to get the job and now she got it.
"Good. So as my Secretary, amongst other things, you're entitled to an apartment, an official car and health insurance benefits."
"I would like for you to start work by Monday. Will that be okay with you? I also hope you would have settled in by then" He said.
"It's fine by me, Sir. I guess I will leave for Buxton early tomorrow morning to go pick up my children, try to get a nanny and also settle down and get prepared for Monday."
"You've got so much on your hands but I think I should be able to help with that. I will make some calls so you will be able to use the company's jet tomorrow. My personal assistant will accompany you. The earlier you arrive here with your kids, the sooner you get settled."
Before Abigail could reject her boss's offer, Damon picked up his phone and dialled the pilot.
Damon Black and Abigail Delaney spent the rest of the day talking about the business, signing contracts and explaining her duties to her. She was later taken to her new apartment.
Abigail was in awe when she saw the place. It was even more than comfortable for her and the twins and to top it all, it was already furnished.
Abby spent the rest of the day organizing the apartment and buying stuff she and the twins would need. She also checked out of her hotel and moved her things into the apartment.
At night, Abigail called her mum to give her the good news. Sarah was so happy for her daughter and she couldn’t be more proud of her.
Abby asked her mother to come stay with her in the city but she refused, saying she was happy staying in Buxton and besides, She had a provision store she needed to look after but she promised to visit from time to time.
After the call with her mother, Abigail took the Ipad which was given to her by Damon, claiming she was going to need it for work, and started searching for nursery schools which were close to the apartment. She also searched for agencies where she could get a reliable nanny for the twins.
