We had been walking for hours when Tyler and Jason yelled, “I see it!” We all took off running, sprinting through trees. We emerged from the trees into a clearing of flowers. There in the middle was a shimming, round circle, very similar to the portal in the garden of Eve.

We were all excited, but a few people were nervous. They did not know if they could trust the portal or not. Jason held up his arm to quiet everyone down. I know there are people who are nervous. But if the King says to go through it, then we have to go through. This is the portal that keeps the humans out of the supernatural’s land, a gateway that we’ve been searching for. I will go first, make sure it’s safe, and then come back for everyone.

We all stood and watched as Jason walked through the portal.

I knew the portal was safe, but I could not let them know that yet. No one knew that Jackson was my Alpha; I was part of his royal guard. When he had first been to the garden of Eve, he learned that Zoe was his mate.

I had already requested leave to find my stepsister Jennifer. My stepdad was worried about her being in the human world. The fact that she hurt Zoe, the Alpha’s mate, by having sex with Zoe’s fiancé, Jared, was a major concern. Jared would have been killed on the spot had he arrived here with Zoe. Werewolves are possessive of their mates—especially the King Alpha.

I knocked once on the King’s office door.

Come in, I hear the King say.

I enter the office to see Alpha King Jackson behind his desk, Beta Cole, and Gamma Max sitting in chairs in front of it.

The King stands quickly and says, “You here; where is she?”

Max chuckles and says,” About the time I was getting tired of the love-sick puppy over here,” as he points to the King.

Alpha Jackson throws the pen in his hand at Max’s head and says,” Wait till you find your mate.”

“Where is she?” Alpha Jackson says.

They are outside the portal, I answer.

I know she was here last night. Her group still does not fully trust that this is not a set-up. The group has been through a lot and has seen a lot on their travels. They do not trust easily.

I have not told them I work for you, so I offered to go through the portal first.

Once I return unharmed, they all will come through the portal.

I wanted you there, my King, to help put their worries at ease.

The King stood and told his beta and his gamma to follow him. We all headed to the portal’s entrance.

I stepped back through the portal to be greeted by cheers and crying. All these people were tired from their journey and ready to be safe and home.

I looked at Tyler and Eric and told them to line their people up. We will go through the portal two at a time. Eric immediately started telling people to line up in pairs of two. Tyler went to Zoe and Katelynn and told them to stay close.

Tyler would go with Zoe.

Katelynn would go with Johnny and her kids.

Ryker would go first in case there were any issues in front of us.

Behind us, Eric and Danny said they would be right behind us.

Danny grabbed Azria’s hand and, with a smile, said are you ready, my Queen and stepped through the portal.

Then Tyler grabbed Zoe’s hand and stepped through the portal. This continued until everyone was through the portal.

The last to go was Jennifer and Jarred before they stepped up to the portal.

This will be your only warning: stay away from Zoe.

Do not piss the King off!

Then, I pushed them through the portal.
