Chapter 04: Is this it?!

Avery's POV

I had already woken up over an hour ago, but I felt too lazy to go down, so I spent the day looking out at the snow, seeing as that was the most interesting thing I could find at the moment.

This is so damn boring. Can't we do something else? Oh, I have an idea! Let's play a game. It's called “kill the father”.

I rolled my eyes at the imposter living in my brain, although I wasn't going to deny that that was a very tempting game idea. Too bad I couldn't play it though.

“Did you hear?” I heard a very familiar gossipping maid's voice.

“Hear what?” The other also very familiar voice asked, seemingly very curious.

“I heard some guards went to spy and they found out that Dario Moretti is on his way here right now.” The first familiar voice squealed excitedly.

“Dario Moretti? As in the extremely cute and extremely hot Mafia boss?” The other one screamed.

“Yesss.” The former replied, emphasizing on her Ss.

“ And also, I heard our boss saying that when Dario Moretti arrives, he's going to pretend to be really sorry for what he did and that he thinks they should strike a deal. He said that all his guards should be in position, and if Dario Moretti does not agree to the deal, they should shoot him dead.” She said in a dreadful tone as the other maid gasped a little too loudly.

“No way. He's too hot to die. They shouldn't kill him.” The gasper said.

“I agree. He's really….” I had my ears pressed on the wall trying to get the rest of her statement, but she was already out of earshot.

I had no idea who he was but I already had a plan cooking in my head. I needed to get the attention of this Dario guy, because if anyone could scare my dad, he was no ordinary man.

I quickly got up to look for a means to seek his attention without him actually seeing me when I got a light bulb idea. I had a wooden floor in my room just like the rest of the house, and when struck it usually sounded really loud down in the living room and my dad's study, and I knew they were likely to be in any one of those places when he arrived, so all I needed was to find what I could use to make the loud noise.

I searched around my room looking for what I could find, although the room was literally almost empty. At the corner of the room, I found a cupboard that was already falling apart, with a solid huge slab of wood. I had found what I needed, and now all I needed to do was wait.

I had waited for over an hour and nothing was going on. The environment didn't even seem like where something was even about to happen. The only thing that was off was the amount of guards patrolling the house, but they've been doing that since my dad got beat up – the thought of that was still really funny to me – so it was not really a special incident.

Tired of waiting, I laid down for a nap. Few minutes into my nap, I began hearing a bit of commotion.

Wake up, dumb bitch. Something is going on outside, and I feel that our eagle is here. I got up at the loud, annoying voice of the snobby bitch living in my head. And although I hated and will always hate to admit it, she was right.

I immediately jumped off the bed and pressed my ear to the door to see if I could hear anything, and to my joy, I could.

“Get your guns ready. He's here.” I heard one of the guys order as his footsteps quickly receded.

“Damn man, I'm so excited. Just check how respected we will be when people find out that we were among the people that killed the almighty Dario Moretti.” I was sure he was already having wild imaginations in his head.

“Well, while you're being really excited and pessimistic,” I heard a calmer voice, “remember to stay hidden, because if he sees you or anyone, he will kill all of us in the blink of an eye. And I mean, with his bare hands.”

I guess this one was smarter than the last.

“What makes you think that? I personally think these are all crazy folktales.” The former laughed, obviously finding it hard to believe what the latter was saying.

“Because this scar on my face right here was gotten first hand from him. I barely even escaped.”

“What happened?” The other asked, curiosity tainting his tone, and I wasn't going to deny the fact that I was also really curious.

“We were fifty that were offered a hundred thousand dollars each to go kill that monster. To our joy, he was alone and unarmed when we found him, so we didn't bother to stay hidden. We came at him guns blazing, and in the space of ten minutes, he single handedly disarmed us all and killed 47 of us. We were three lucky people that escaped, but none of us left without a mark. Left with me, I wouldn't have been part of this crazy experiment y'all are about to perform, but I'll still give you a little advice. Stay as far from the scene as possible, just in case you need to run. That's all I'll tell you.”

I was stunned and at a loss for words at this realization, and it seemed the other guy was too, because I didn't hear his voice again after that.

If I wasn't anxious to meet this monster in the form of a man before, I am now.

It had been thirty minutes since they started talking, but I hadn't set my plan in motion yet. I didn't want it to seem like I was waiting for them. But I was not going to wait any longer.

I picked up the slab of wood that I'd kept on the side of the bed and began slamming it on the floor as loud as I possibly could . After I'd slammed it for quite a while, I paused to see if anyone noticed, but when no one seemed to notice, I resumed, slamming even harder this time.

“Keep it down up there you damned idiot.” I heard my father's voice yell up at me.

Finally I got the signal I was waiting for, a sign that they'd been hearing me all along. I decided to wait a little longer before I go downstairs.

I waited for not even up to five minutes before I started heading down, because I realized that I didn't know when he was going to be leaving and I didn't want to risk my only opportunity.

I had walked down the major part of the stairs when my eyes fell on the masterpiece  in front of me. He had matte black hair that fell in his face and a very perfectly sculpted face. He looked cool, relaxed and….bored. He looked like he didn't want to be there at that moment.

I was still feasting my eyes and slowly walking down when the stairs creaked under my feet, causing me to freeze as two pairs of eyes landed on me. One pair sizing me up, and the other curious and wondering. I looked up into the grey eyes that were curiously looking me over and all I could think of was how his eyes looked like melted steel and wondered how people said he was a monster.

Someone so gentle looking couldn't be so monstrous as they say.

I noticed my father's angry gaze, so I decided to pretend like I felt remorseful for walking into their meeting.

“I'm sorry.” I said calmly.

“Your room. Now.” Father growled at me, and I instantly turned.

I walked up to my room and sat down on the bed, bouncing my right leg up and down in anticipation as my subconscious paced round and round, a hand on her forehead.

I'd been up there for only a few minutes that seemed like hours when my father opened my door with a smile he'd never given me ever in my life.

“Pack whatever clothes you have and get ready. You're leaving.” He said and slammed the door as I stood up wondering.

Is this it?!!
