Chapter 10 During the Surgery

The two chubby kids scrambled onto the dining table when they heard there were burgers, and Harold quickly helped them sit down to prevent any accidents.

Since they arrived in a hurry, there were no high chairs available yet. Harold had already ordered them, and they were expected to arrive soon.

Elodie, however, had everything well-prepared and placed two plates in front of the kids.

"Come on, sweethearts, dig in! Burgers and juice, your mommy's favorite back in the day!"

Talking about five years ago, Elodie felt a bit nostalgic. She used to be a maid at Crimson Ridge Villa during Sienna's three years of marriage. That also explained why when Alexander suggested Sienna bring Elodie along, she didn't refuse.

William, curious about his mommy's past, asked Elodie nosily.

"Elodie, was that jerk mean to my mommy?"

Jerk? Elodie looked at Harold in surprise, and Harold was equally puzzled.

"William, who do you mean by jerk?"

"Mommy's lousy ex-husband! He had a bad temper and hit people. He's a total jerk!"

Harold almost burst out laughing. It was the first time she heard a kid call his own dad a jerk. Mr. Knight's situation was indeed quite pitiful.

Meanwhile, Alexander was at the hospital with Aria when he suddenly sneezed, startling everyone around him.

"Alexander, you're not coming down with a cold, are you? If you are, you need to isolate yourself. Your grandma is about to have surgery, so don't pass it on to her!" Layla said worriedly.

Alexander shook his head. "It's nothing, just a sneeze. I'm not sick."

At eight o'clock, Sienna and Mason arrived at the hospital room. Sienna was the lead surgeon today, with Mason assisting her.

Mason was grateful for the opportunity, knowing how highly regarded Sienna was in the medical field.

"Have you eaten anything?" Aria asked Sienna with a smile.

Aria saw Sienna and chuckled, saying, "I haven't eaten anything, they won't even let me drink water. Sienna, is this surgery going to hurt?"

Sienna smiled as she approached Aria, holding her hand and saying, "Aria, don't worry. It won't hurt, you can trust me."

"I trust you, Sienna. You're the best!" Aria said, smiling.

Sienna smiled and nodded, checking Aria's pulse while holding her hand. Everything looked good, and she gave a slight nod to a few people in the room.

She took Mason outside, and Alexander followed them. Earlier, when he was signing the consent form for the surgery, he had wanted to see Sienna, but she had gone to make rounds.

"What's the success rate of my grandma's surgery?" Alexander asked, stopping Sienna in her tracks.

"Conservatively, fifty percent," Sienna replied.

Alexander was taken aback. He had expected a higher success rate given Sienna's reputation. "Sienna, aren't you one of the top ten surgeons in the world? Why only fifty percent? Are you a fraud? Are your accolades fake too?"

Sienna narrowed her eyes at Alexander, finding him ridiculous. He had always been arrogant, and it seemed he hadn't changed a bit in the five years since she left.

"Alexander, use your head. If you want to change surgeons, you have fifteen minutes before the surgery starts at eight-thirty," Sienna said, turning to leave.

Mason stayed behind. "Mr. Knight, Dr. Blake's success rate is already very high. Even the best experts in the country wouldn't have more than a thirty percent success rate."

Alexander scoffed and went back into the room, still feeling resentful towards Sienna, especially because of her indifferent attitude towards him.

In the operating room, Sienna and Mason worked seamlessly together. Two hours into the surgery, they reached the most challenging part. There was a blood clot in the heart, causing ventricular hypertrophy and uneven blood supply, which put pressure on the blood vessels. They needed to perform a bypass to remove the clot.

Two of the blood vessels were deformed, making the procedure even more difficult. Sienna's forehead was covered in sweat, but she continued working steadily, cutting open the blood vessel to remove the clot.

Everything was proceeding smoothly until someone rushed into the waiting area.

"Mr. Knight, something's wrong with Olivia!" Gemma cried, running over.

Alexander quickly approached her. "What happened to Olivia?"

Gemma, in tears, explained, "It's my fault. I didn't watch her closely. She fell off a ladder while playing with other kids, hit her head, and now her heart condition has flared up!"

Mason was inside with Sienna for the surgery, which was why Gemma had come over. She didn't know that Aria was also having surgery here, so running into Alexander was a surprise.

Alexander quickly called a nurse to inform them. Sienna was fully focused on the surgery, and the nurse quietly told Mason. The moment he heard, his expression changed drastically.

"Dr. Blake, one of my patients has had a sudden episode. I need to check on them immediately," Mason said.

Sienna nodded, continuing her work. The clot had been removed, and she was correcting the deformed blood vessels. This was a critical moment, and she couldn't afford any distractions.

Mason rushed to the emergency room, where he saw Olivia's condition and the test results. He was alarmed.

"Olivia needs immediate surgery, but Dr. Blake is already in the middle of another operation. What do we do?" Mason said, panicking.

Gemma, equally frantic, pleaded with Mason to save the child.

When Alexander arrived, Mason was preparing to take Olivia to the operating room. Alexander grabbed his arm.

"Olivia needs surgery too?"

Mason nodded. "Her heart condition requires immediate surgery, and she has a head injury with a blood clot. If we don't operate, she could die at any moment."

Mason handed Alexander the consent form. "Mr. Knight, sign this. We'll do our best."

Alexander's hand trembled as he signed the form. Once Olivia was taken to the operating room, he realized that Aria's surgery wasn't finished yet. How could Sienna handle two surgeries at once?

He called the hospital director, who rushed over upon hearing the situation.

In the operating room, Sienna, aware of Olivia's condition, frowned. She glanced at the ongoing surgery, estimating that she needed at least another hour to finish Aria's operation. But Olivia's condition was critical.

"Don't panic. There's another machine here. Bring Olivia in and prepare for surgery. You two, go assist Dr. Green. Hurry!" Sienna instructed.
