Chapter 8 A Slap for the Scumbag Ex-Husband
Sienna furrowed her brows, staring at Alexander in disbelief. Was he seriously so full of himself that he thought she was using the kids to get close to him?
"Tell me, Mr. Knight, what kind of agenda do you think I'm hiding?"
Alexander's lips curled into a cold smirk. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. You vanished five years ago and now you show up with illegitimate children. Sienna, do you really think you can waltz back into my life and expect me to raise someone else's children?"
Sienna couldn't hold back any longer and slapped Alexander across the face. Her eyes blazed with anger, but beneath that, there was a deep-seated hatred—hatred for Alexander and hatred for herself.
In that moment, Sienna regretted everything. Why did she bring the kids back? Why expose them to this humiliation? Illegitimate children? Alexander, good for you!
Alexander was stunned by the slap, but his shock quickly turned to fury.
"Did I say something wrong? You left on your own back then, so why come back now? And why move into The Knight Manor right away? Isn't your goal obvious?"
Sienna sneered, "Mr. Knight, do you really think I came back because I can't get over you and want to remarry? Mr. Knight, use your head before speaking!"
Not wanting to stay with him any longer, Sienna needed to go upstairs to make a call. She had to move out of The Knight Manor first thing in the morning, even if it meant staying in a hotel.
Just as she was about to head upstairs to pack, Alexander grabbed her wrist.
"Slap me and then run? Who do you think I am, Sienna? And what do you think this place is?"
Sienna shook off Alexander's hand and said coldly, "Who are you? Alexander, you're just my ex-husband. Where I live and who I live with is my business, not yours! Also, I'm a doctor. My professional duty is to save lives. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have come back to treat Aria. Alexander, you're trash!"
Sienna stormed upstairs, but halfway up, she turned back to look at Alexander.
"As for your daughter Olivia, I'm willing to operate on her because I'm a mother too. I don't want to see a child suffer from illness. Instead of questioning me, Mr. Knight, you should ask yourself, as a father, what right you have to question the doctor saving your child when you abandoned her in the hospital for three years!"
Alexander's steps halted. Sienna's words struck a chord deep within him, a place filled with guilt.
Olivia's arrival had been unexpected. He had saved her by chance, and she had been sickly since birth, spending most of her time in the hospital. Alexander's visits were few and far between.
Why did he keep this child then? Maybe it was because the first time he saw her, her eyes reminded him so much of Sienna's. That was probably it.
Sienna went upstairs and made a call. "James, I need you to arrange for a nanny. I'm moving to a hotel now. I need someone to watch the kids in the morning when I go to the hospital."
James checked the time. "It's ten at night, Sienna. Is someone giving you a hard time?"
Sienna didn't respond, but her silence spoke volumes.
James was livid. "Pack your things. Someone will be there to pick you up in fifteen minutes. Make sure the kids are dressed warmly."
Sienna nodded, her eyes red. When she returned to the country, she had a glimmer of hope for Alexander. But now, all that hope was gone.
He was still the same cold, heartless jerk. Sienna shouldn't have had any illusions about him, nor should she have let him see the children.
So Sienna went to the guest room to dress the kids and pack their bags. When the servant Elodie got upstairs, she looked surprised. "Mrs. Knight, someone is here to pick you up. Aren't you staying here? Where are you going?"
Sienna corrected her, "Elodie, I divorced Alexander a long time ago. I'm not Mrs. Knight anymore. It was a mistake to move in here. I've found a place to stay and I'm moving out now."
Elodie panicked and said, "Mrs. Knight... I mean, Ms. Blake, it's so late. The kids are asleep. Moving them now could make them sick, and Henry is already injured. Ms. Blake, why not stay one more night and leave in the morning?"
Sienna shook her head. She couldn't stay another minute, especially with Alexander there.
"Please bring the person upstairs. The place I'm moving to is close by. It won't affect Aria's treatment. You can assure Daniel of that."
Elodie, being a servant, couldn't say much more. She went downstairs to let the person in. They two came up and the man greeted Sienna, "Ms. Blake."
Sienna was surprised to see them.
"James sent you?"
Harold Rogers nodded. "Yes, Mr. Smith is very concerned about your safety."
With Harold there, Sienna felt much more at ease. He was someone the kids were familiar with, and his presence ensured their safety.
"Mr. Smith arranged a place just across the street. It's a ten-minute walk. I've got two people here to help with the luggage."
Sienna took Harold to carry the kids downstairs, where Alexander was waiting.
"Sienna, what are you doing?"
Moving out in the middle of the night—did The Knight Manor become some kind of danger zone?
Sienna looked at Alexander with a stern face. He stood tall and steady, like a tree, with a calm demeanor and striking looks that could easily give the illusion of being a dependable man. But Sienna knew better now.
"Mr. Knight, as you said, this is your territory. It's not appropriate for a divorced woman with kids to stay here. It was my mistake to move in. I've found a place just across the street. You don't have to worry about delaying Aria's treatment; since I've promised her, I won't go back on my word."
But Sienna couldn't stay here any longer. Alexander was like a ticking time bomb, and they were bound to clash. More importantly, his calling her children illegitimate had deeply hurt her.
Those were her children, born through her own struggles. Why should they be insulted like this, especially by their own father? The thought of it broke Sienna's heart.
"You can move out, but take Elodie with you. Otherwise, I can't explain it to Grandma. Sienna, you have to go to the hospital; you won't have time to take care of your kids!"
