Chapter 12 The Johnson Family Doesn't Need Your Money
Lawrence wasn't surprised by her reaction and just hummed as he headed upstairs.
Hazel rolled her eyes when no one was looking and followed him.
After removing her makeup and washing up, she lay on her bed with her tablet, researching the steps and procedures for starting a perfume company.
Once she had gathered enough information, Hazel took out the materials she had bought for making perfumes and quickly mixed a sleep-aid fragrance.
The sweet and elegant scent of jasmine, combined with the subtle coolness of cedar, felt like moonlight falling in an ancient forest—serene and solemn, bringing relaxation and purification to the mind and body.
Smelling the fragrance she had created, Hazel smiled softly.
After working with Chloe on so many scents, she had complete confidence in her skills.
Given how Lawrence had defended her in front of others today, she decided to help him get a good night's sleep.
The door opened, followed by the sound of wheelchair wheels rolling across the floor.
As soon as Lawrence entered the room, he noticed an unusual scent and frowned slightly. "What did you do?"
Hazel turned to see him and smiled. "Have you finished your meeting already? Do you like the smell?"
"Yeah, the meeting's over. It's not bad, I don't mind it." Lawrence answered her questions one by one.
Hearing that he didn't mind the scent, Hazel's smile deepened. "As long as you don't mind. I made it to help with sleep."
Lawrence looked up at her. "You know how to make perfumes?"
Hazel pouted, "Didn't Mr. Johnson investigate me thoroughly? Didn't you find out that the Anderson family is famous for their perfumes?"
Lawrence felt a bit awkward being called out so directly. He maneuvered his wheelchair closer to Hazel. "Did you make this specifically for me?"
Hazel replied, "Yeah, I've noticed you haven't been sleeping well lately. I thought I'd give this a try. You can put it by your pillow when you sleep."
Lawrence was slightly taken aback and then asked, "Hazel, why are you doing all this?"
Detecting the distrust in his voice, Hazel pouted. "I did it because I wanted to. There's no big reason. Just consider it a thank you for defending me downstairs. Okay? Don't worry, I didn't poison it. If you don't want to use it, that's fine."
"We're married. It's your duty to do things for me." Lawrence said matter-of-factly. Seeing Hazel's expression fall, he quickly took the fragrance from her hand. "Don't think I'll be moved by this. I just don't want to waste it."
With that, Lawrence placed the fragrance by his pillow and took his robe to the bathroom.
Once he was in the bathroom, Hazel made a face at his back.
'What a proud man. So childish!' Hazel thought.
The sound of running water soon came from the bathroom. Hazel suddenly thought of something. Wasn't Lawrence paralyzed? Would he have trouble showering?
And he wouldn't let her help him in the bathroom.
Thinking of something, Hazel's face turned red. She shook her head to dispel the image of Lawrence showering from her mind.
When Lawrence came out of the bathroom, he immediately noticed something was off with Hazel. His probing gaze fell on her flushed face.
"What's wrong with you?" Lawrence asked.
Hazel instinctively looked over. Lawrence's robe was open at the collar, revealing glimpses of his muscular chest. Her face, which had just calmed down, turned red again.
Fortunately, the bedroom was lit with warm light, making it less noticeable.
She averted her gaze and swallowed nervously. "Nothing. By the way, about the card Grandpa gave me tonight..."
Lawrence seemed to guess what she was getting at and raised an eyebrow mischievously. "That was a gift from Grandpa. You can keep it. The Johnson family isn't short on money."
Hazel grinned. "Thanks, Mr. Johnson. You're very generous."
Might as well take the money. It made her feel more secure.
As night fell, Lawrence got into bed, and he and Hazel lay on opposite sides. With the sleep-aid fragrance Hazel had made, Lawrence quickly fell asleep.
The bedside lamp was still on. Seeing that Lawrence's brows were no longer furrowed in his sleep, Hazel closed her eyes as well.
In the middle of the night, feeling cold, Hazel instinctively rolled over to the other side and snuggled into a warm embrace.
When she woke up the next morning, Hazel found herself lying on a broad, warm chest. She quickly rolled to the side, eyes wide.
'Oh my God! How did I end up in Lawrence's arms?' Hazel thought.
"You've been sleeping in my arms all night. Isn't it a bit late to be avoiding me now?" Lawrence's teasing voice came from beside her.
Hazel's body stiffened, and she glared at him. "You're lying! Maybe you took advantage of me!"
Lawrence retorted, "I take advantage of you? Who was it that clung to me like an octopus in the middle of the night, and I couldn't push you away?"
Lawrence was amused by Hazel. She had clung to him so tightly that his arm had almost gone numb, and now she was blaming him.
Hearing this, Hazel felt even more embarrassed.
"I sleep very still. I never move around." She refused to admit it even when caught.
Lawrence had seen enough. He chuckled, got out of bed, and started getting dressed. His robe had been pushed off by Hazel, and he was only wearing underwear. Hazel yelped and covered her eyes, her face red. "Pervert!"
"We're legally married. We haven't even done anything else yet, and you call me a pervert?" Lawrence glanced back at Hazel, whose ears were bright red, and decided to tease her a bit more.
The next second, a soft pillow flew straight at his face.
She was mad!
Quickly catching the pillow and tossing it aside, Lawrence decided to stop teasing her and got dressed.
Lawrence said, "Alright, you can open your eyes now."
Hazel was quite amusing, but she was easily flustered.
Hazel peeked through her fingers to make sure Lawrence was dressed before uncovering her eyes.
Lawrence added, "Later, I need to go to the office. Do you need to go anywhere? If it's on the way, I can drop you off."
Hazel thought for a moment and gave him an address. She had looked up a few places online yesterday and planned to check them out today.
Lawrence asked, "What are you going there for?"
Hazel replied, "Just to look around."
Not giving any specific details, Lawrence didn't press further. "Alright, I'll have a couple of people go with you for protection. You don't want a repeat of what happened at the Anderson family, do you?"
Thinking of her previous ordeal at the Anderson family, Hazel felt a bit scared and didn't refuse Lawrence's suggestion.
After getting up and washing, they went downstairs together.
"Good morning, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Johnson." The butler greeted them as they came down.
"Good morning." Hazel said.
"Morning. Where's Grandpa?" Lawrence asked, looking around the first floor and not seeing Jeremy.
"Mr. Jeremy Johnson went out early. An old friend invited him." The butler replied, "Breakfast is ready. If you're going out, you should eat something first."
