Chapter 15 Unexpectedly Seducing Her
A cold glint flashed in Lawrence's eyes. "I'm just a guy who can't stand up right now. It's easier for them to take care of me here at the Johnson Mansion. Otherwise, Grandpa would worry."
Plus, staying here let him dig up more info on certain things.
Jeremy worried about him? More like he was keeping tabs on him.
Hazel couldn't help but think. It wasn't paranoia; Jeremy's attitude was just too hard to read.
"Is it a hassle living here?" Lawrence asked, and Hazel quickly responded. "Wherever my husband is, that's where I'll be."
Her answer brought a faint smile to Lawrence's face. Though it was clearly meant to please him, it wasn't unpleasant to hear.
As Hazel pushed Lawrence into the living room, they saw Jeremy sitting on the couch. Hazel paused for a moment before greeting him. "Grandpa, you're back."
Jeremy's gaze shifted between the two of them, and he smiled slightly. "Yeah, I just got back. The servants told me you went for a walk."
"Yeah, I thought a walk might help Lawrence relax." Hazel said calmly, though she suspected Jeremy had other reasons for being there. Was he worried they were talking badly about him?
"I heard Gerald and Bryan sent their gifts today. Did you get them?" Jeremy asked.
Knowing what Jeremy was referring to, Hazel nodded and answered obediently. "Yes, Grandpa. I'll make sure to thank Uncle Gerald and Uncle Bryan properly."
She doubted Gerald and Bryan wanted to see her at all, which was why they hadn't shown up in person. But she still had to be polite.
Jeremy didn't say much more and let them go about their business. Hazel politely said goodbye and pushed Lawrence upstairs. Lawrence hadn't spoken to Jeremy beyond a brief greeting.
Their relationship was so strange.
Back in their room, Lawrence didn't go to his study but stayed to work in the room. Seeing him focused, Hazel didn't disturb him and went to freshen up.
She had been out all day and spent a long time cooking in the afternoon. So she was exhausted.
But when she finished, she realized she had forgotten to bring her pajamas into the bathroom. Hazel closed her eyes and cursed herself silently.
If Lawrence weren't in the bedroom, she could just walk out naked. But now, she had no choice.
Feeling awkward, Hazel decided to ask Lawrence for help. "Honey, can you hear me?"
Lawrence, who was working, heard her and closed his laptop, moving to the bathroom door. "What's up?"
Hazel's silhouette was faintly visible through the glass door. Lawrence's throat felt dry, and his voice was a bit husky.
Hazel bit her lip. "Lawrence, can you get my pajamas? They're on the bedside table."
Lawrence turned and saw the pajamas, then wheeled over to get them. "Here you go."
He quickly returned, and Hazel opened the door a crack, letting the steam escape. A slender arm reached out to take the clothes. Her delicate skin was flushed pink from the warm water, and water droplets slid down her bare skin. Lawrence stared, momentarily lost.
When the door closed, Lawrence snapped back to reality, feeling a bit stiff as he returned to his seat. Soon, Hazel emerged from the bathroom.
Her nightgown revealed her long, slender legs, and she wore delicate slippers. Lawrence's gaze involuntarily fell on her small, cute feet, his eyes darkening.
But Hazel didn't notice his reaction and went to the vanity to do her skincare routine.
After a while, Lawrence spoke up. "Where's my aromatherapy for tonight?"
Hazel paused, looking at him through the mirror. "You can use the one from yesterday."
Lawrence said, "You said you wanted me to help promote it. How can I do that if I only use one kind?"
Hazel couldn't argue with that. "Alright, give me a moment."
After finishing her skincare, Hazel handed him a new blend she had prepared. "Try this one."
"Okay, just leave it there." Lawrence didn't look up, but his work pace slowed. Hazel didn't notice he was avoiding eye contact and lay on the bed, watching videos and chatting with Kelly.
She didn't have many friends. During the time she was with Randy, she met some people, but Randy's friends looked down on her. Kelly, though just a colleague, shared similar views and personality, making her one of the few people Hazel could talk to.
[I'll be back in a couple of days. Let's meet up then.] Kelly's message made Hazel smile as she replied. She didn't notice Lawrence's deep, unreadable gaze.
Seeing her happily chatting, Lawrence said nothing. After finishing his work, he went to take a shower.
Hearing him, Hazel was surprised. "You're done working so early tonight?"
Lawrence glanced at her. "What, do you want me to die because of work?"
Hazel shook her head. "No, I'm just concerned about you. You shouldn't overwork yourself."
For some reason, Lawrence seemed annoyed again. Hazel suppressed her frustration and tried to appease him. After all, he paid her well.
Propping himself up on the bed, Lawrence looked over. "Who were you chatting with just now?"
Whether intentional or not, Lawrence's robe was open, revealing his chest, which was quite distracting.
Hazel realized why he was acting strange and a mischievous glint appeared in her eyes. She moved closer. "Mr. Johnson, are you jealous because I was chatting with someone else?"
Her teasing tone made Lawrence narrow his eyes. He raised his hand and flicked her forehead.
The sharp sound was startling, and Hazel covered her forehead, glaring at him in disbelief.
She wanted to flirt, and he flicked her forehead.
"Why did you do that?" Hazel pouted.
Lawrence gave her a sidelong glance. "Because I felt like it. You annoyed me."
Seeing Hazel's angry expression, Lawrence's voice carried a hint of amusement.
It was the first time Hazel saw this side of Lawrence, and she was a bit upset. She wanted to flick him back but didn't dare.
Lowering her eyes, she saw his exposed chest and felt her breath catch. She quickly moved away.
He was shameless, trying to seduce her.
